It's not just today. Holl has consistently proven to be a liability. For every 10 good plays he makes he makes a very costly one
and if you judge D based on just %, you are not going to do well.
Different players bring different qualities to the team
Schenn does too, or do you just not notice them? Well actually, he can't even string together 10 good plays before a costly one, but those are pretty high standards for any NHL defenseman so I won't hold that against him too much. I would just prefer Schenn to make as many good plays as bad ones at this point, but even that is a struggle.
He gave the puck away on a backhand with limited pressure: Crickets.
Constantly losing puck battles to guys much smaller than him below the goal line (and actually got away with some holding calls as a result): Crickets.
His mistakes got bailed out. That was the difference. And he generated literally nothing on the ice in the first period.
Holl's one "mistake", which wasn't even a mistake because he was taking the pass like he should have, and we have 3 pages of whining about it. The rest of the period, he was excellent.
Schenn gets in a completely unnecessary scrum with a guy: 3 pages on how he is a god and a completely necessary part of this team.
Squeaky wheel is the loudest I guess, and unfortunately the squeaky wheel has a lot of faults and double standards...
