For the record, we are contending now, and the record bears that out. Id absolutely trade Nils if it got us a a top 6 center with term. Othmann is a tougher sell for me I think he's untouchable at the current moment. I think that could change with major Laf/Kakko/Chytil(i guess) breakouts though

Our record says we are having a good regular season; doesn't make us dangerous in the playoffs. If we could get a top 6 center with term for Nils I would do it too but because that helps us next year and beyond. Those types of players are not normally what you see on the block at the deadline. Those types of deals are made at the draft or in the summer.

Strome put up points when Panarin was out and that certainly suits your argument. However, even during those stretches he was a liability in the two other zones. I say move him if you can.

I know what you said. I disagree. He played well when Panarin was out and was productive. He has his warts as a player but he is the best we have right now to man the very important 2c position. Trading him is not going to happen and thinking Chytil can step into that role is wishful thinking. Why don't you see what the team looks like after the TDL before you claim it's nearly impossible for them to win a playoff series.

What it's really about for me is wanting to watch a team that can win a championship but I have higher standards than most on here.

Greiss was great. But honorable mention to the officials. Not only were the calls lopsided but they were blocking pucks and throwing picks on our guys…with wild abandon.

At the deadline they should trade Kravtsov and picks for a couple top 6-9 forwards. Thats the teams issue right now. Too many scrubs in the bottom 6, and Panarin/Kreider/Mika have to do everything offensively. Well see consistent 5v5 play when our 3rd line isnt a 22 year old flanked by 2 AHL players.

Seriously, the Habs argument is a red herring. The Canadian division was so weak compared to what we're facing this year. This year's Rangers are better than last year's Habs. But this year's Rangers have to run a gauntlet to win even one round. And we would be significant underdogs against the Pens who are probably the 4th best team in the East.

My point is even though it was an easier road to the finals than the Rangers would have nobody on this planet thought they could make the finals and they did. We are 3 stinking points behind Pitt with 2 games in hand. They have been on an incredible run but the teams they have beaten have been weak for the most part. I look at their roster and it's not that great. We would have a shot.

I think some of the "negative people" are of the opinion that this is not a year where we can make a run. So, player development should be priority number one and the way Turk is setting up his lineup and handing out ice time does not serve that purpose. Others who are negative think we can win this year and want to win every game and are disappointed in tonight's loss when it's a game we should have taken.

This doesn't mean Gallant is a bad coach or needs a huge course correct on how he handles the team. We are past the halfway point of his first season, but we've had our fair share of forwards missing time, making it difficult for him to set lines and growing pains at least a little more understandable.

The Rangers had the better chances tonight (I think the underlying analytics would show that) and ended up with a point. Of course you want 2 points, but there are some people who think a night in February proves the Rangers can't win a playoff series. A team can't lose a shootout to a team like Detroit without being labeled a pretender? I read someone wants to trade Strome for a 3rd round pick. What are we talking about here?

Anyone watching tonight's game will know never to question Laffy's skating again. He is confident and skating at a pretty high level. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but at ES Kreider is holding that line back. He scores (sometimes at ES) and does little else to help the cause.

Not unpopular with me. Kreider and Zib are clearly comfortable together and very, very good on the PK and 4v4 as a duo. But Kreider is not creative enough 5v5, in that sense I don't see him as a first line player. Maybe try Panarin with Zib and Laffy. I'd like to see Kreider and Kakko with Chytil at C on 2nd line minutes. That line had chemistry last season. Strome is better away from Panarin, at least until Kakko returns to complete that line. Maybe try Kreider Strome Chytil for now and move Goody down to the third line, see how that goes.

I was at that game and we played well. The Panthers were tired and played that way. I was not convinced based on that performance but again just my opinion.

That missed call on the dirty Gauthier hit was horrible. Refs did not call an even game. It happens.
4th line perimeter masters but pretty meh. Reaves stuck in mud - Bettter in a different game vs other opposition but should rotate 12/13. McKegg tries and hustles but has the hockey skill of a hummingbird. Rooney is a stable player.

3rd line did not play much. Hunt with a lot of bad passes. Gauthier with some flashes almost oohs ya, has not put it together. Chytil was trying to make things happen but had a meh result.

Panarin had a mixed bag that should’ve gotten more outta it. Goodrow is useful but should play further down the lineup with other bangers. Strome gotta Strome. He did

Laf was very good. His best game in a long time. Zib was mixed. Kreider had a few flashes but did not play very consistent. Omg - Deja Vu is real!
Miller was good. Great goal. Trouba mixed big. Fox great for the most part except that pathetic shootout attempt (ice?) and blocking LAFs certain goal. Lindgren was not good. Third pair mostly functions;. Bad luck for Jones on the deflection. They look pretty good together. Shesty good. Reacted a little late on the 2nd goal which he almost had. Gallant had a Swedish 2nd grade social studies teachers day. Meh…
If Hunt was #14, Reaves a 12/13 and Gauthier and/or Chytil dealt for upgrades while Kakko returns and we get a few fitting pieces. We could, um, be better. Consistently good. Even dangerous. But not contenders. Quite yet

The Wings are so sloppy with the puck. I am confident if the Wings were our first round playoff opponent we could and would win. But they are not. We will face the powerhouses in the East and that is why we are not a contender; been saying this for months.

But we have already beaten Tampa, Florida, and Toronto twice this season. Oh sorry, I forgot it's only the regular season so that doesn't count but they are all serious playoff contenders because they are having good seasons. Do I have this right?

Way too many here have no understanding how the inside of a hockey locker room works. The camaraderie of a hockey team has far greater value than any other sport. This ain’t the NBA, You don’t build a better team by ripping key players out of the room past the midway point of the season. You can make additions both big and small but if you are going high and aiming higher, you work around the edges. Major changes come during the summer. You blow up a locker room and no matter who you add, the net positive won’t be there.
