At the deadline they should trade Kravtsov and picks for a couple top 6-9 forwards. Thats the teams issue right now. Too many scrubs in the bottom 6, and Panarin/Kreider/Mika have to do everything offensively. Well see consistent 5v5 play when our 3rd line isnt a 22 year old flanked by 2 AHL players.
Kravtsov for TWO TOP SIX FORWARDS??? Good God... this place is losing it pretty badly considering our record.

Strome has been one of our worst players in the last two months or so which is further exasperating our scoring woes. He has just 1 goal and 7 points in his las 15 games. Probably his worst stretch in years

Imagine if he wasn’t playing with Panarin?

I thought the whole team was inconsistent last night. 1st line, I liked Mika and Laf's play, Kreider was meh. But on the Larkin goal where Det went up 2-1, Laf was standing around with his head up his ass leaving Larkin wide open for the rebound (Giannone said GG went ballistic on the bench after that goal, which he rarely does). Igor made some great saves but wasn't good enough on the Larkin goal or the S/O. Panarin skated well and controlled the puck but didn't make the big play we needed. I don't like Goodrow on that line. They don't seem to have chemistry. Hopefully that changes if GG sticks with that combo. 3rd line wasn't as effective as they were in the previous game. 4th line was ok, but like the rest of the lines all night, inconsistent.

Same thing on D. Jones was pretty good, but needs to make a better play on that puck that went in off of him. Fox was ok, but I've come to expect more fromh im than what he did tonight. Trouba and Miller were chasing a little too much on some shifts.

In close games against a hot goalie, players have to make big plays to get the 2 points. Just weren't able to do that last night, despite outplaying the wings for the majority of the game.

Oh well, on to the next one.

Can we trade him at the deadline?
That's what I would do . If somebody sulks over it....move them next . It's time somebody showed some nuts with this club . Things need to change . We are just too F'n nice as a team . Even Reaves is a nice guy out there now on the ice . Get a couple of guys that don't mind an extra shove after a whistle and a whack at the goalie after a save . We need much more energy from our 12 guys up front on most nights . Somebody has to take that initiative and it should be Kreider but he thinks he is a goal scorer now. Relying on Reaves is not the answer for hitting.

Can our current 12 forwards raise their individual games to actually play balls to the wall playoff hockey ? That's a simple NO !!!! Geesh....PLEASE do not sign Strome.... and do trade Chytil & also get Barron in the games .

I was at that game and we played well. The Panthers were tired and played that way. I was not convinced based on that performance but again just my opinion.
Yeah and your opinions are shit. Example: Moving Kreider to the third line.

this team is a contender no doubt about it. They will be adding at the deadline and going for a run like they should.

I’m not even worried right now. I know we’re adding two top 6 forward by the deadline in a healthy Kakko and thru trade.

going to make us infinitely better and we’re already good. We’re going to finish top 3 in the division.

this will not be the team that lines up for game 1 of the playoffs

I think some of the "negative people" are of the opinion that this is not a year where we can make a run. So, player development should be priority number one and the way Turk is setting up his lineup and handing out ice time does not serve that purpose. Others who are negative think we can win this year and want to win every game and are disappointed in tonight's loss when it's a game we should have taken.
Whether the team is perfect or in their final form ready for contention or whatever is kind of irrelevant to whether or not they should try and make a run. They're going to make the playoffs and they have elite talent and the best goalie in the league

Obvious issues exist, but you have to put your best foot forward this year (while balancing managing the future) where you're going to make the playoffs. You don't take a year like this (standings wise) for granted with the expectation that more like it will come. You never know what's going to happen any season so you can't take years where you're going to make the playoffs for granted.

Also this is an odd game to be mad after. Slow start for sure but once they got going they pretty much dominated Detroit and really only lost because Greiss stood on his head AND we got unlucky on bounces. Then we "lose" in a shootout which is a crapshoot as it is and a shootout in which Fox lost the puck and didn't even make an attempt and then Ryan Strome missed the easiest wide open net ever. Some of the reactions you'd think we got our teeth kicked in all night and lost 5-0 or something.

Yes, a team, especially one with a first year coach and as many young players as the Rangers have, couldn't possibly improve with ONLY 40% of the season left. Why do they make the stupid season so long anyway!?! This is the logic that is going to help you win this argument!

Gallant, who has coached 3 1st place teams in his last 5 seasons of coaching, who coached an expansion team in it's first year to the Stanley Cup Finals, and who is on his way to making the playoffs in 5 of his last 6 years of coaching is a born and bred loser. Even if this were true (it isn't), this was not proven tonight and does nothing to "win the argument".

How did tonight prove that the Rangers can't win a playoff series? Or did tonight not prove anything about the Rangers chances in the playoffs?
The Rangers have still not learned to play the right way - why is that magically going to change? And when? Teams that change their play usually do it way before this point in the season.

Gallant has more times getting tossed on the side of the road than championships won. He's not a good coach, and he's a loser..

Thank god nobody on this board will ever be anywhere close to actually making decisions for this team. Just sitting behind a computer spewing nonsense is much less destructive.

Now it’s fire Gallant?? Look at this team’s record. This team is far from perfect. But, to claim Gallant isn’t a real coach is a bit perplexing..
I look at this team's record - they are now 2 points out of a wildcard spot. There's a reason he's been unceremoniously axed everywhere he's went. He has no strategy to speak of, can't deploy his players, doesn't coach his players anything in the least. No serious coach would ever play Greg McKegg more minutes than Chytil after the game Chytil had on Tuesday, nor would any serious coach ever play Kevin Rooney in 3v3 overtime and not Lafrieniere, who has actually scored OT goals.

You should request an interview for the position then.

Apparently you forgot the 5-2 win over Florida before the break. They have played games “the right way”. I will say that they don’t do it consistently enough. That is because of their youth. You just hope they can be more consistent in the playoffs.

They're 2 points out of a wildcard spot while having THREE games in hand on the team that is 2 points back. Why do you keep leaving this out. It matters. If you're going to talk about standings you can't leave that out.

"Look at this team's record" you say as if it proves that Gallant is a bad coach.

They're 31-13-5. 7th in the league (8th by points %). I hate to break it to you, but that is not the proof you think it is.

I agree with most of your criticisms but man you really need to take a step back.

Why keep him ? Somebody offers up a decent prospect and or a draft pick or any combo of...as a GM you should be attempting to improve your club which is the long term goal . It's a poor time to get sentimental and then watch them walk away for a handful of feathers ? I think Goodrow-Chytil-Barron-Rooney can absorb his ice and Laf can handle his PP time . That way you will find out what you actually have in Chytil and Barron . He is going to walk for NOTHING !!! Strome is not the type that is going to be a difference maker in round one of the playoffs .

5-2 win over a tired Florida team where they stunk like crap for the first part of it. They have followed that game up by scoring two even strength goals in their last two games and all of this team's bad habits are still there.

Consistency - this team doesn't have it, and they don't because they don't play the right way. I don't want to hope for anything, I want to expect it.

The real reason this team has the record they do is the guy playing in net. That has nothing to do with Gallant. The crazy thing is, and I hate to say this, but I don't think this team would look much different under Quinn as long as Igor was playing like this, except they would be scoring more goals. So, bring Quinn back I guess?

BTW....it's real easy to sit back and be critical of another posters reply and calling it " nonsense" ....but quite a bit harder to present your own solution . Funny about that LOL.....

I'm in the same boat here. Look at the ice time and also look at the schedule. The team has 2 days off after this, and just got back from a 2 week hiatus. Gallant ran with the top 6 and top 4 as much as he could in a game where they trailed.

Also what to make out of this is that he does not trust the current "3rd line" of Hunt-Chytil-Gauthier. So when it got to OT and he sent Chytil out there, he chose someone he trusts and Rooney is clearly the guy he trusts. Would have loved for it to have been Lafreniere, but I think his mistrust in Chytil made it not happen. Would have preferred it just been Rooney-Laf then. Outside of Laf, he's not sending Reaves, McKegg, Hunt, or Gauthier for a 3v3 shift.

Add two forwards, even if they are more of 3rd line types than 2nd line, and get back a healthy Kakko. Takes Gauthier, Hunt, and McKegg out of the lineup. I think you see a team that will be very tough to beat.

Tierney, Names, Jarnkrok. Those are the forwards I'd be eyeballing.

A rebuilt 3rd line that has two of these players could be successful. Jarnkrok and Tierney would be my preferred option of the three, but they all work. All are versatile forwards. Tierney is the natural center of the group and center depth on this team is limited. Still think there is one splash move for a top 6 guy pushing others down the lineup.

What numbers do " hope" and "consistent " wear in the playoffs ....I will keep an eye out for them ! Will Strome be centering them ?
