Windsor Spitfires 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

So far Bowler has done exactly what most wanted A couple of 05 improvements with sights also on next year. McNamara slighly better overall than Outwater or Martin with potential to even exceed expectations. Kennedy much better then Winegard this year and next. We all know 05 returning players would be costly. Pay now or usually even higher in September . Still like to see another D 05 or 07. Perfect world deal Eichler for another import who will be returning but that is a tough ask. Some mention another goalie but between Froggett, Windbiel, Newlove one of them should be able to take that role should Joey need help

Bowler didn't go crazy or anything, but I'm happy with this. I don't think it jeopardizes a run next year and it fills a couple of holes. Mostly I like the size of the players we're bringing in, they are going to give us a huge advantage in the playoffs when the game becomes so much more physical. What we lack in experience we more than compensate for with our size, it's now grotesque. Our team is a collection of cyclopean abominations and freaks of nature. I love it.

I think Bowler is done, don't see any more trade additions or deletions and that works for me.

I don't see anything major but if the opportunity comes, he's going to listen, at least. With that said, for him to knock off the two areas they needed to fix, without giving up a major roster player, is pretty impressive.

Edit: As soon as I pressed enter, I went onto Twitter and Ptbo pulled Zach Bowen from the net, having allowed no goals on six shots. He's an 05G with respectable numbers on a poor Petes club. I'm not saying Windsor would/should grab him, but... it's a funny coincidence, at least.

I doubt Bowler is done talking yet. There is no panic for a move but if the right thing falls in his lap, why not?
Have lots of cards left

"Stretch"

Bowler is as stealthy as we've had seen since he's been GM. He may be done or could pull off a surprise. There are still a few players on teams thought could be moved that haven't yet. He's liklely thinking no more deals that's fine and if a team circles back on a deal that stalled he may jump.
16 hours before the trade deadline. I don't think Bowler is putting his phone in the drawer. I've learnt in this league, never say never.

It could be a busy morning where he goes "didn't see that coming, eh?" Or it could be completely quiet because he refuses to sell the farm for a player who would normally cost a mid-round pick.

The funny thing is the price is what someone is willing to pay. Whether hockey player's, gold, hockey cards, automobiles it is all relative. The reality is GM'S remind each other's teams that I paid (whatever) it was 'for an say for a 19 yr old when I needed one and now you need one so the price is very similar. It is just swapping future commodities for today. No one will deal with someone who will only pay $4000 for a 2000 Mustang but won't sell one for less than $8000. I don’t get too worried about it. It was less obvious before the league clamped down from selling picks 6,7,8 years out.
I think there's a weird narrative that the prices are too high. The prices are consistent year to year. It depends on who has control of the picks. People laugh at Kingston to an extent but they also had all those picks at their disposal. It doesn't matter what they did with them that's what they decided. Saginaw took advantage. Just like Flint is loaded with picks coming up. The one thing with the Spits is having 5 2nd round picks over 4 years isn't that many especially if Kennedy is an OA because then you have 4 over 4. Spits had more picks at their disposal when they acquired Harrison/Wright/Holmes etc... They can still make a run possibly but we still don't know if London/Kitchener/Erie/Saginaw might do something either.

Bowler won't be a seller this year, likely next year or even possibly 26-27. That will mean some well thought of players will be moved to tweek the moment. The whole NCAA ruling will change everything. You could essentially draft and sign 4-5 players per year on only 4-5 picks. 15 rounds plus import draft draft/U18 draft . We've had good players drafted 10th round 15th round. Wait until the U18 draft this year. 90 % will be NCAA bound players. The quality of players will go up and less draft picks needed to fill out a good roster. I believe that the CHL will eventually eliminate OA'S and allow more 15 yr olds to make the CHL the destination for 15,16-18 year old player development.

From the Battalion website......

Adam Dennis, president and director of hockey operations, said the Kennedy trade was in some respects a wild card.

“Trading Wyatt was not something we were expecting to do heading into 2025, nor was it something that we wanted to do,” noted Dennis.

“The new rules surrounding National Collegiate Athletic Association eligibility have created uncertainty for some of the overage candidates for next season. It was made clear that there is a possibility that it was something that Wyatt may explore, so we needed to do what we felt was best for the club.

Looking ahead to tonight I find it funny that the Spits are scheduled to play London on the night of the trade deadline. The script is written but in all honesty you need to take this game with a grain of salt. London getting players inserted back into their line up that haven't played for a month. They won't be the usual Knights and the spits also with some roster adjustments. Stressful week for all players so win or lose tonight I'm not all that concerned about the outcome. Be safe.

Back to the last 4 hours of the deadline.

In the grand scheme, it's one game. No big deal. Would love another win against London, but put in the effort, and play them hard, and see what happens
