Windsor Spitfires 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

Kennedy is the big Dman they were looking for. 6'5 210, 05 so can return next season. I'm not a huge fan of giving up multiple picks on top of Manzo, but that's the price you have to pay this season.

What would fans here have expected in return for Manzo. Just in picks and just to compare to some other trades. I'm not familiar with Manzo or his value

Wish that 25’ 2nd wasn’t gone, but being a Kitchener pick, it likely would be a 35-40, not a 20-30…

Got that big defensemen we wanted.
Mathurin, Christoforo, Kennedy, Walton, Woodall, Hicks/Eichler.

Can’t move hicks and I doubt Eichler fills an OA & Import spot next season… Wonder if anyone’s shopping for an Import D right now…

I don't mind the trade. Manzo never more than a 6-7 pairing. If he can move bodies out the crease it is a serious upgrade for next year. Like the McNamara trade, if he's 1 oz better than Outwater or Martin were in better shape with OAs next year.
Two seconds (he’ll be back for his O/A year) a third and Manzo? That’s a crazy price. Sorry.

may as well have gotten Allen at that price.

I am only disappointed because the only players from the 23 draft remaining are Nesbitt and Lavigne. Manzo had 31 gp this year that's not enough time to build up any trade value imo. Might be rough going in 26-27 especially if they want to go all in next year.

Really lol Allen went for Jenken,2-2nds, 2-3rd, 2-4ths, and a 5th. Player plus 7 high picks. Humm that's close lol Manzo on his own maybe return a 4th at best or 5th. That's it. Fans overate the value of their own players.

Jenkin > Manzo and the picks aren’t close. But neither are Allen and Kennedy. Difference is Allen is gone next season and Kennedy is back.

The price to play this season is high. We've seen that with Kingston/Saginaw, with Konnor Smith, and with whatever Flint/OS did. Bowler got McNamara at a bargain price, hoping to get the most out of him. But, if you wanted that big veteran d-man, you were going to pay via limited options. Woodall wasn't being moved. Cristoforo has improved an impressive amount and wasn't going anywhere. Eichler's an 05 Import so unlikely. Lavigne has limited value in Jr. B. Do they go for a forward? Okay... Gaymes? Nah. Nesbitt? No chance. That leaves Manzo, who's been a regular this season, learned from some talented people, and now get a chance to thrive in NB. The picks are a lot but they're the price. If Bowler didn't get that Dman, people would have been rightfully frustrated. So, they got one. At least they didn't pay Konnor prices.

Just those 2 players.
Not rosey picture..

Not the worst given the price of everything. I didn’t dislike Manzo, but he didn’t really add that much, and IMO has been passed on the depth chart by Hicks.

We’re better immediately, and better next year for it.

We have a good amount of depth this year and next still in terms of players. I’ll talk a bit more after the deadline but…

Currently, we’ll be losing Abraham, Mathurin, Morneau and… Martin, Outwater, Eichler, Winegard.

We’ve got a lot of key pieces returning and it’s one less defensive need to fill next year.

Christoforo, Woodall, Walton, Kennedy…

We have our Top 4 D core next year set, an extra half year of building some chemistry with them, and then Hicks returning as well, I’d imagine in a starting spot. With one more spot to fill. D’s been addressed.

Manzo, 2, 2, 3, 4, is a couple more picks than I’d like but…

Manzo was a 5th round pick, sure with some experience now, 17 years old, 6 foot tall defenseman, with a -2 rating on a team that’s 29-7-2

You already said they're 3rd in goals against. Is Kennedy to improve that??
