Let's be real here. Bowler is not firing JS. He just hired him. He is not going to admit 7 games in he made a mistake. Now there is a coach that should be looked at but even then I don't think any moves will be made.

Now if the owners get involved it might be a different story.
correct, i didnt like the hire at the time but doesnt matter, hes here for the year and probably some of next year at least.

With regards to goaltending - they have options if a move must be made, such as the rights to Tre Altiman or Paolo Frasca. We've seen Bowler do that kind of move before. I'm not saying it will happen but that's an often overlooked possibility. With that said, I wonder out loud if Bowler can pry Donoso out of Ottawa. He's a Windsor native, an 03, and they have MacKenzie (an 04) taking over. Again, not saying it's even likely to happen but I just noticed it so...

Regarding coaching - Smith isn't going anywhere this quickly. Given how long he's been in the organization, Bowler's going to give him every opportunity to right the ship. I'd be shocked if a move was made this week.

That said... this is the second time JS has mentioned Xs and Os. The first time, IIRC, was when they won a game and "swagger" was brought up. It was something to the effect of Xs and Os are great but you need swagger to have have success. This week is going to be important to getting back on the same page.

I would agree that Bowler probably wouldn't fire Smith this early but if this poor play continues it's quite possible Smith will make the decision easy for Bowler. This is under the idea they will have no choice but to move bodies and they aren't going to replace them with players more talented. Maybe they will replace them with guys that will work harder but it's still going to be ugly. If they go on to win 15-18 games and he's returning the fans would stop going and having guaranteed income in the form of season tickets is important. The year of Stenlund/Prpich/Curtale that was a year of high expectations but the guys had a little too much fun one night and Awender pulled the chute. Going into the year they had Sarno/Martin/Crawford/Cooke/Zehr/Lankshear/Mando/Elich. They never figured out goaltending. Scored 261 goals in 66 games. If the Spits want to get to 3.9 gpg they will need to average 4.11 gpg the rest of the year. I have my doubts on that.

i never understand this, its a season where they are for the most part expected to lose, why would they trad ea 3rd and 5th, picks they really can't afford to spare, for a 1 and done goalie that may put them in 7th instead of 8th. the players they take with those pics, as long as they are better then jodain, will be way more important down the road vs the instant gratification of a goalie who only lets in 4/5 instead of 6/7.

I'm confused - where did I say a third and a fifth?

I am probably over reacting Smith won't be dismissed this early, but if they lose another 5 in a row or something, they might have no choice. Looking at the schedule, the next win likely won't occur until they play Niagara.

The going rate is a younger goaltender and pick(s), which is why I wondered if they could offer up the rights to someone instead of a current roster player.

gaudreau
3rd, 5th and 6th
-so i undershot it.

michael simpson is a 3rd plus a younger goalie. the spits are awful, what special player that they have the rights to that they cut is anyone giving up an overage goalie for? cain tucker? josh branton? jacob crisp? nope.

Difference between Owen Sound and Windsor head coaches is that Owen Sounds head coach was there 2 full years plus the 7 games this season as head coach compared to just 8 games total by Smith in Windsor.
Now if he were the head coach the last 2 years I would be open to discussing ,my point 2 different situations, re Owen Sound must be something going on there, because 4-2-1 isn't a terrible start regardless of team.
Windsor didn't really search hard for their coach though. Boys club..

So last year you all screamed that having an older goalie (yes an overager) was a waste and now you think we should have a 19-20 yr BUG who has more experience than our current BUG but isn't good enough to be a starter in the league? Last year you were advocating for Joey to lead us into the playoffs towards a championship but now he needs help to lead us to being an aaverage team. Time for tough decisions, if you think he isn't good enough you move on. Pick up a 19 yr starter. I think if he was good enough last year he will be good enough this year. Start by moving players interested in only playing offense. No goalie in the league will stop 2 on 0,and kit scored on a 3 on 0 at the rate we give them up.

Joey is a good goalie and doesn't need any help IMO. I agree it's much more about the team around him than himself.

Onuska was a waste because he was given far too many games at being the starter at Joey's expense and throwing away an OA spot, all in a competing year.

I don't think acquiring another goalie is the answer, especially not using assets on one, however the backup spot can be and really should be better utilized than Michelone. If they want to protect Froggett from this circus, I rather they have Frasca or some other prospect get some reps in just as a younger guy who can't do much worse than Michelone. They especially don't need to be spending on a 19 year old goalie because this team isn't going anywhere anytime soon. If there's a free OA goalie waived thru the Q/WHL that would be a better spot as purely a backup used than on Jodoin. However, now that the start of the season tanking the values of the OAs more than they already were being OAs (Nice work Bowler on maximizing the value of Maillet/Peer/Christo), there probably won't be that extra spot.

How many games has Michelone started. Seems to be taking alot of heat on here.
Maybe it's deserved, I dunno but it seems like the least of the issues if the starter is in the same boat stats wise playing more. And was so highly praised last year.

My feelings are until this team learns to play 60 minutes with an emphasis on a responsible game on the defensive side of the puck, both forwards and D, talking about another goalie is a complete sh-- show. We've been playing this blame goaltending game for a long while. Many seasons in fact going back to DiPietro. Defense has been our downfall when things always get tightened up near the end of the season and especially playoffs. Smith coached under a D orientated coach Letowski as well as offense minded coach in Savard. He has no identity yet to either side. Much like a temporary fill in role The team starts strong most games and then falls off. The coach can get the team pumped for a game but it is the player leadership on the ice and in the room that keeps it going for 60 minutes. We have none currently. Even with Matthew Maggio and Shane Wright and we were still shown the door in the 1st round. Teams kept them in check and the rest of team disappeared. Now their gone and the leftovers have disappeared.

Michelone is not the problem with this team, nor close to the biggest issue with the team. The main thought is that this team is going nowhere and he doesn't have a future with the team, so instead of wasting his spot as a backup, it should be used to at least give a chance to a player who may potentially have an impact past this season. If he is on the team as an OA backup next season there are problems. Michelone has played 16 career OHL games as an '04, there's no veteran presence, its simply a backup stopgap.

You know why theres so many opinions on whats wrong? Because there's so many things wrong!! Chaos has ensued and that blame lies squarely on the front office, all of them up to ownership. Ownership MUST step in and fix this no matter how painful. This could fracture this franchise for years to come unless its fixed quickly.
When problems run this deep trading a guy or 2 tells folks they were a problem. That becomes an even bigger issue in the room when the team feels no one has their backs. Mistakes have been made, some of them have spiralled into this mess. Ownership has to rectify the problem or that rink is gonna be empty!

Bowler needs to do everything he can and try and get Jakub Chromiak here. Sudbury just upgraded their import with a 10th overall NHL pick, making him available. Chromiak is a good young defenseman who played in the world juniors. This is his draft year. This is exactly what this team needs. A good opportunity to trade a vet for a young player.

Also Juan Copeland was put on waivers by London, another decent player that could help. Hard to imagine Bowler doesn't do anything in these next couple of weeks, considering this has been the worst team in the CHL.
