Some thoughts...

Looking at the goals against...

1. Beck sneaks in, gets the puck, and beats Donoso. You can't give him that much room. Cristoforo tried to get him but it was too late.
2. Donovan scoring from the point can't happen. Create traffic, create something... but don't allow that to start the third period.
3. Hay works past Toms, gets the puck on net, then is all alone and puts it over Donoso's pad. That was on Toms... he let him go and that's a no-no.
4. Willis gets in behind everyone and beats Donoso low. Again, they let the guys slide wherever desired.
5. A tipped point shot. I don't fault Donoso here.

- When you outshoot a top contender through 40 and have a lead with 10 minutes to go, you're doing something right. Windsor was strong defensively, capitalized on offence, and played the game we know they're capable of.
- The Hay goal was the backbreaker. First, you allow a goal to open the period. Then, you allow one the shift after you make it 4-2? No. Can't happen. Plant the guy on his ass.
- That set up Saginaw to pounce like nobody's business. Props to them for not quitting, I guess?
- Speaking of props, Cristoforo had a huge blocked shot in the third and had issues skating to the bench, so stuck it out on the ice. Something something "soft"? I know, I know, "HIT HIM AND CLEAR THE NET!" Yeah...
- Smith with two points and a really solid overall effort. Can we get that every game?
- I don't know what it is about Donoso and the point shots. The Hounds did it multiple times and now the Spirit follow suit? He's great down low and I thought he was in for a fantastic night. Then, the point shots start coming. Is he being screened? Is he just flubbing them? I don't get it.
- The elephant in the room - Hay and Winegard. Props to Tanner for getting it over with fairly early. You knew it was coming, though I kind of wanted Zito to do the deed. Winegard did well, though, and you know he's got your back.
- 5,000+ crowd. Keep that going!

Petes on Saturday, then in Saginaw on Sunday. You need at least two points from that, somehow. Figure it out.

I'm taking tonight as a glass half full idea. Yep, they lost... and it wasn't a pretty way to end the game. However, you take the 6th rated team in Canada to the third period, up 4-2, that's not bad. They played 45 minutes of hockey. If they can figure out the other 15, they'll be set. There's a lot to work on and everyone agrees with that, but there were plenty of positives tonight, too. I think most could agree with that. Onto the next......

Spitfires nervous 3rd period or Saginaw decides to play hockey but that went from great team game over 40 to zero for their earlier efforts.
Nervous lol. No. The coach over played multiple guys again and has ZERO clue how to manage a bench for a 60 minute game. You can say the lakuers played well for 40 minutes but due to trash coaching the players were absolutely based and Sag out waited them and capitalized. These teams know you just have to wait for the 3rd and Windsor can't keep up any longer. You can't play 2 lines and expect to win ever. They have shit D and over play 4 forwards all the time. You guys played so well and lost 🤔. Not how it works.

The season is already lost so anything up from there is a bonus. Yes this team is a mess and coaching has something to do with that but players have to be better. IMHO goaltending hurt them last night. Some very weak shots ended up in the back of the net.

Players themselves need to step up. They never get a full team buy in for 60 minutes. Players take a shift or 2 off and bam its in the back of the net. Part of it is the level of talent coming over the boards. We have players on the 3rd and 4th line that would not make other teams rosters. So why do you see a heavy dose of the top 2 lines, there really is no other option.

On a positive note I've been impressed with Nesbitt's play as of late. Seems to be gaining confidence. He will be needed in the future.
Smith as well. He seems to be a new player as of late. Need more of this and some consistency.

Wassilyn watch continues.

Goaltending? Which goals were weak. Beck shot top corner, Hay scramble in front goalie down tries to cover puck goes to Hay, left untouched puts over goalie. Donovan goal completely screened by Hay/Eichler standing in front of him. Willis left all alone beat him 5 hole. Anytime you allow a breakaway isn't on goalie. Bloom deflects point shot just under crossbar.

Windsor lost again.
They did play parts of periods during the game.
Scored 4 goals. None cheap ones.
A few players were trying.
Even had the opponent take some really bad penalties to give Windsor lots of opportunities to score.
However.
Windsor couldn't make a good 1st pass out of their own zone.
Too many blind passes or back hand passes. Why is this taught??
Bad hockey.
Players playing too long shifts and out of position.
Defense was too soft.
Bad coaching decisions throughout game.

First goal was in his glove then popped out. Hay goal was rebound that should have been covered. Donovan goal he was not ready. Just standing there when the puck went by . No real attempt to crouch down or look around screen.
The other goals no goalie is stopping.
Now to be fair no other goalie we have played this year would have shown any better. it's just hard for a struggling team when a goalie can't make a save when you really need one .

As a coach once told me, they can't score if we are in their end shooting on their goalie. So goals against are a "team" problem.

Once again my tv provider let me down so not much I can comment on other than to say we played well enough to keep it close in the end. As is often said “this too shall pass”. Perhaps we can get a couple of points from the Pete’s who are re-building as well.

That will be their best chance. Peterborough is going a different route than Windsor though. Peterborough dressed 9 rookies last night and 4 07 1st round picks, 1 other 07 and the 4 06s.

The players know it, too. Even Colton Smith said after the game that he made some mistakes that can't happen (and he said everyone was in the same boat). Coaches are doing okay but the players have to step up and take responsibility for their own actions.

And another thing they mentioned is Windsor has been helping Saginaw with their memorial Cup planning. Apparently Steve Horne will be in Saginaw all weekend meeting with the planning committee. Real nice to see that level of cooperation between division rivals.
I would be interested to know if London helped Windsor in their 2017 bid. Considering London had hosted twice in 05 and 14.

Rychel was the GM in 2017 and, given the amount of shock I heard at the arena when Onuska was acquired from London, I doubt there was much communication btwn the clubs. (I could be wrong) Windsor and Saginaw did get together for a big trade in November, which tells me that relationship is likely far better than Windsor/London.

Hopefully its one of those situations where Saginaw helps Windsor back next year in any deals. Maybe pick up an OA for cheap. IMO they gave Saginaw Christopoulos and Dionicio for cheap, considering the return the Petes got for their d-men ('07 1st rounders). Saginaw will be in a heavy sell mode next year.

If true... very disappointing. Not sure if he looked at the standings before he decided to come back? This opens a roster spot for another player who has no business being in the OHL lol, gonna be a rough 25 games. Braidy Wassilyn you are a Windsor Spitfire.
