Took the summer off from hockey for the most part and enjoyed the summer. Now that Fall is creeping back in, it's back into the Hockey vibes now. Appriciate what Savard did for our organization but happy to see a change, hopefully a change in style. I am Okay with Smith taking a shot as Head coach, he has seen a few coaches roll thru here and spent lots of seasons here now. Let's see what hes got.

Thanks for the updates on training camp. Sounds like it's been a pretty competitive camp and there could be a surprise or two come regular season time. By all accounts by people watching this training camp, we should have a hopefully more well rounded team that can hang around physically. Time will tell obviously and the preseason will take it up a notch and hopefully solidify the starting lineup for the year. I think this team will surprise some people this year, I see us finishing in the 3-5 slot in the west. Hoping some playing take some big strides forsure.

Cheers!
Go Spits!

The one really good thing about the camp - nobody made it easy for Bowler and crew. There weren't many that didn't stand out at some point and many of the youngsters had a few outstanding moments that made you go "ooooh, okay!" There's a huge difference between training camp and the regular season but I'm optimistic that some of these kids can make an impact over time.
Bowler wouldn't share the information anyways if it was easy or not...

It's a Sunday night of a long weekend with no game until next Saturday. We all know the discussions are going on in-house so cuts/signings will come sooner rather than later.
Should be almost finished as school is Tuesday.
Just Bowler being Bowler...

While a list of the players cut might be considered negative to those individuals, they should release a revised roster and anyone with knowledge of training camp can do the math.

From Windsor Star:

- The club is going to extend offers this week for some to stick around for preseason games but nothing has been offered yet.

- If the club wants to keep Struthers, they owe Mississauga compensation. That wasn't disclosed.

- It looks like Costanzo and Michelone are the two goaltenders with Froggett and Frasca as potential third stringers.

- Greenwell and Winegard made enough of an impression that they're going to stick around to try to earn a role.

- Manzo and Lavigne might be a year away "from contributing on a regular basis."

I see no sense in having an 04 backing up an 05, and Constanzo shold clearly by #1. He was clearly #1 last year and Michelone showed little in his call-up roll.

This team is not Championship bound, so they should be developing an 06 or 07 by having them play about 33% of the games. If the younger goalie plays well and pushes Costanzo, you then trade one of them to build up other areas.

I am very high on this team for 25-26. Everything should be done focusing on that.

I said on Saturday that, ideally, Windsor went with Costanzo and one of the rookies as backup. You know Costanzo is capable of handling full-time duties and Michelone isn't going to be around next season. With this being a rebuild/reload season, play the youngsters and develop for the future. Maybe they use Michelone for the time being and then bring in Froggett or Frasca around Christmas while dealing Michelone for assets?!

Sure if you had an 06 or 07 you believed in.I doubt you see many 07 goalies getting run around the league. If you can't dedicate the time to develop a younger goalie don't put him on the roster.

If we are being honest Bowler really hasn't drafted a capable goalie yet. It's fine to find Onuska Costanzo but I'm not counting on them to draft and develop one.

Bowler has drafted capable goaltending but he just seems to want to go super slow with the ones he has drafted. Those of us who watched training camp this season (and last season, to an extent) know that Froggett and Frasca showed their ability and deserved at least viewing in preseason. This isn't a case of "they're not good enough and that's on Bowler." I wouldn't be shocked if Froggett or Frasca get a chance at some point this season, once they've had plenty of ice in lower levels.

If we haven't seen them in actual real games we don't know if they're capable. They only have 30 cards so it's not just about signing guys. You need to be absolutely sure.

But you said "Bowler really hasn't drafted a capable goalie yet", which implies that none of the guys in this season's camp, aside from Costanzo/Michelone, were capable. I don't believe that given what I saw at camp. Froggett/Frasca performed very well and preseason action is/was possible. Do they need seasoning and ice time? Absolutely. Is there potential? Yes. They're going to need a third goalie, whether it's an A-card or something else, and I think you look at one of them as a possibility.

I think the bigger issue is Michelone not showing he is any more capable then Froggett/Frasca. He had a decent short stint in Flint but outside of that what has he done to show he is more capable then the other two? 12 OHL games over 2 seasons? Froggett has had back-to-back seasons of excellent training camps. I agree they have to be careful with cards, but one will need to be used on a backup no matter what - I'd rather it be used on an 06 who can potentially contribute to a contending year than an 04 in a write-off year.

Agree mostly with what you have written re the goalies, and while I admit I have been lukewarm as it relates to Michelone, though I admit he was the 2nd best goalie in camp behind Costanzo, with Froggett as 3rd and Frasca 4th,nice bounce back for Frasca,as last year as a 16 year old he really struggled, Tre Altiman was 5th but played nearly as well as Frasca.
As for the card situation or even contract situation between Windsor and Froggett and or Frasca we will see how things work out as Windsor will want a 3rd goalie once things get back to action, doesn't have be on an A card, just knowing one can be made one if neccessary.
My feeling is because Froggett has zero B experience let along OHL experience ditto Frasca too,Windsor wants them to play B for a while and then things revisited.
Now had Windsor not have Costanzo, 5th best goalie in the OHL last for average and save percentage, and the youngest of the top 5 to boot,Windsor may rush the young goalies when not completely ready, having Costanzo gives Windsor time to develop the younger Froggett and Frasca even if it's only half the season.
I am ok with Michelone for now, waiting to see how he performs up to the regular season,he had an excellent camp, that's a good camp, needs to keep it up.
Should note once Windsor plays its opening game regular season wise on the 29th at Sarnia ,they play their next 5 at home in a row,so doubt Costanzo will get the lions share of the work like 5 of them of the 6 games so its best for the younger goalies get work with their respective B teams and get ready for the call up.

So goalies. Why would you add a backup that likely wont be here next year? Unless the plan is for Frogett to go to B for a period of time then step in im against the idea!
