I’m glad to hear that about Morneau, I was pleasantly impressed with him at the end of last season.

I like what I’m hearing about Lavigne so far, we need some grit/toughness. Ideally level headed, but bring on the physicality. Probably can’t tell from camp, but I’m hoping Dionicio is able to control his emotions out there a bit more this year.

Personally I’m hoping for Froggett. I like the idea of a younger goalie, and I think Costanzo can handle the majority of the workload vs a split.
I’m all for a fair chance but I’ve been far from impressed with the small amount I’ve seen from Michelone in Windsor, and the larger sample size I saw from him longer ago in flint.

Thanks to those who are posting updates, it’s great to keep up!

Will say Liam Greentree has shown so far this most improved player from last year by far with Morneau, Spellacy and Jodoin rounding out the top 4.
Forward Cole Davis looks like another who may significantly improve.
Costanzo Michelone and Frogett have been the best tenders so far with Frasca and Altiman not far behind.
On the D,Deangelis and Jodoin look really solid, with Christoforo not far behind, those trying to make the team including Winegard, Evans,Lavigne,Bacik, and Manzio have looked real promising so far
Upfront,Alec Stewart,Jack Nesbitt,Ryan Struthers,Nathan Gaymes,Mickael Tissier,Joshua Caloiero all have looked very good and consistent with their play whether it's been their aggressiveness or pointing up points.
Looks like Ethan Martin is a little quicker too.
It has been a very good and competitive camp so far, looking forward to the Blue and White game, wondering if we see any more separation on who makes the club or lasting impressions moving forward in all positions.

Thanks for the updates. Anything on Castle or Smith?

Morneau did not impress me last year . Seems he likely new he was struggling hence the switch to a more aggressive player. That helped with his game and made him a role player at the end.

Why would the news regarding the cuts not be delivered to the fans?

Secrets, secrets, secrets....wow that sure helps to strengthen the fan base!

Billy is being Billy. Everything stays internal if possible til he says so. Few reasons he could be doing it tho…. Not gonna ride him for that one. He plays favourites be aware of that, he holds grudges too! Lets see how he toughens up this team, strengthens the back end and builds for the future. Goals will be ok I believe, but that will depend on Smiths directives and how he incorporates a tighter D. Id expect a solid mid pack team at worst. Unless the coaching decision goes totally sideways. Add some grit and size, tighten up the D and see what you have would be my direction, but im nobody lol.

Holding grudges is absurd in this case. News regarding the team is essential for holding and the strengthening of the fan base. He should be cognizant of the fans, that is his job, to build the team!

As per the Spits Website, zero cuts were made last night. Sounds like most of the regulars will sit out tonight, and cuts will be made after

I'm surprised there are no cuts but I can appreciate it. Imagine the reaction in the rooms when they were told?

Lookin' forward to today's game!
Agreed, though I notice one player not on the playing rosters,16 year old winger Mikael Tissier who from what I hear is thinking college route unless lineup is wrong he has left.
Too bad,he played very well, even had 2 goals in 1 scrimmage this week.

Also some of them know they're in camp to be a body and have no shot of being signed. They can return 12-14 players and with only 30 cards at your disposal the numbers don't work.

I didn't say exit interviews; I know how those work. I'm saying that it was likely a coaches/management decision to not cut anyone after Friday, despite that specifically being on the schedule. You could easily tell them as a group "we're not cutting anyone." Thus, the reaction from the players would have been neat.

Okay, some thoughts from this afternoon's B/W game...

8-4 White final. I'm sure Legend can get you the specific goal scorers.

- In terms of goaltenders, Frasca and Froggett were the best for their respective clubs. I believe Froggett didn't allow a goal while Frasca either had a similar shutout or allowed just one. The others allowed multiple goals each, IIRC.

- For Team Blue forwards... Spellacy is flying right now. Once he gets going, good luck in stopping him. He was zipping around the D, crashing the net, and owning his part of the ice. Alec Stewart played a similar game and he's making a case to stick around for the preseason. Ethan Martin has gotten faster; my eyes aren't deceiving me. With a consistent motor and drive, he's one to watch. I also liked Nathan Gaymes' game; quick, no real fear, grinds to the net. He's not big but plays like it.

- On Blue D... Lofranco continued to be a waterbug. He still needs strength and seasoning but I'm glad he was in camp. Lavigne was, again, in the middle of the physical stuff. I think he'll be just fine once he adjusts to the quicker pace.

- For White forwards... Greentree is a man on a mission. I know, it's just a B/W game, but he wants to prove how far he can go. Nesbitt got to show off some skills. He's not the flashiest guy but you notice him regularly and he's got a great shot. Dean and Greenwell got into the action a bit more, including at least one goal (IIRC). I like Maxime Morin's game, too. He's smaller but quick and not afraid to get into the crowds and steal the puck. Struthers continues to play that pest, agitating role that could benefit him and the club. He's not overly offensive but he's quick, will get in your face, and seems to embrace the chaos.

- For White D... Winegard looks comfortable, making plays, using his frame. Evans played a better game, similar to Winegard's. Hjelholt showed some of that jam everyone wants and, like others, I think it's just a matter of adjustment. Blain Bacik is gritty and showed his experience.

I know there were supposed to be cuts made today so we'll see what happens with those. There are a handful of names I'd like to see make it to preseason but that's all TBD.

15 players plus Josef Eichler didn't dress from the Spits in the Blue and White game today, though I am sure Christoforo and Davis would have played as Christoforo out with a minor injury and out because of illness.
As I mentioned 1 player left camp early 16 year old Mikael Tissier a winger rumor about him committing to USA college/ university soon.
Goal scorers in this 8-4 win for Team White were Morin(1),Struthers(1),Bowler(1),Nesbit(1),
Dean(1),Greenwell(1),Protopapas (1) his goal an empty netter, and dman free agent Lucas Hihn(1) goal,Nesbitt,Greenwell and Morin added an assist each to their point totals.
For Team Blue goals came from Spellacy,Lagana,Ward, and Martin.
No players on Team Blue had more then point.
Goaltending wise with 6 goalies dressed and each played 1 period in this one, their results as follows for Team Froggett 0 goals against,Donahue 3 goals against and Bertolin in the 1st period 4 goals against.
For Team White,Frasca 0 goals against,Altiman and Steven's 2 each against.
As OHLTG mentioned both Froggett and Frasca didn't allow a goal and it happened in the 2nd period for both as both teams failed to notch goal though Froggett was tested more by Team White then Team Blue .
I was very impressed by 1st rounder Jack Nesbitt very solid performance, Liam Greentree as well despite getting only 1 assist, continuing to be impressed with 19 year old forward Ryan Struthers, fast and gritty deserves a look in exhibition imo, decent size with spunk.
Others for Team White that I was impressed with include forwards Jack Dean and Jack Greenwell, as well as 16 year old 11th rounder Maxime Morin,Liam Carlone ac17 year old free agent also impressed despite going pointless, while from the back end all 6 of them had good moments including Carson Woodall,Gage Evans,Tanner Winegard,Evan Hjelholt,Lucas Hihn and Blain Bscik.
For Team Blue I was impressed with forwards Alex Stewart,Ethan Martin,Nathan Gaymes,AJ Spellacy and Jaksen Ward, along with dmen Trevor O'Dell,Michael Levigne and Adrian Manzo, and at times Luke Laevens.
I would be surprised that 16 year old dmen Adrian Manzo and Micheal Lavigne both play in LaSalle this coming season and getting signed, while dmen from Team White including Tamner Winegard, Gage Evans and Evan Hjelholt may or will get a look and offered a contract.
As for additional goalies beside Costanzo and Michelone who both sat out today will be interesting whether Froggett, Frasca and or Altiman garner contract offers, having a feeling 1 or 2 will but not all 3.
My next post will talk about the forwards

You are welcome Section 103,thanks for the kind words.
Now on to the forwards for Windsor this coming season, new, middle, old and possible new ha ha.
Interesting array of forwards including 3 OAs,Maillet, Peer and Christopoulos, with
Christopoulos out for another 6 or 7 weeks, think we will both Maillet and Peer on the squad along with dman James Jodoin, then a decision needing to be made.
Must say I like the overall makeup of the forward group, nice blend of size and speed, here are my top 14 including OA guys,Maillet, Greentree,Peer,Abraham, Smith,Spellacy,Nesbitt,Morneau, Christopoulos, Struthers, Martin,Castle,Davis and Greenwell.
With Christopoulos out Davis starts on the 4th,while Castle plays on the 3rd with Nesbitt and Morneau, or Morneau goes with Greentree and Maillet, and Peer joins Nesbitt and Castle.
Other forwards who may challenge include Nathan Gaymes,Jack Dean, along with possible free agents Anthony Protoplasta,or Liam Carlone both 17 year olds who might be in the mix.
Should add 18 year old Center Alex Stewart into the mix, much improved and noticeable, and Nick Grenario a winger despite being 19 can always fill in when needed.
Because we don't yet all the cuts that why I included free agent forwards Carlone and Protoplasta, plus Protoplasta is currently with La Salle.
I do know that other free agents Joshua Caloiero,Kyler Morgan were cut however.
Will be interesting to see,I do like the mix and potential upfront moving forward.

The one really good thing about the camp - nobody made it easy for Bowler and crew. There weren't many that didn't stand out at some point and many of the youngsters had a few outstanding moments that made you go "ooooh, okay!" There's a huge difference between training camp and the regular season but I'm optimistic that some of these kids can make an impact over time.

Just my humble opinion but I think in some cases we might have a player or two that others may have interest in. Perhaps these could get us a pick in return ro could be sweeteners to finalize a possible deal. Names will pop up soon enough, after all it is a holiday weekend.
