Win or McDavid?

McDavid Tank Watch

Well last night was fun. Not fun for the tank who desperately needs to lose one of those big 4-point games against a bottom 10 team right now though. Edmonton just wanted the loss a little more than us last night. EDM lost all of the puck battles they needed to, took the penalties that they needed to, had he bad 3rd period that they needed to, their goaltender managed to keep "that save" out of the equation...and bing-bang-boom they stave off a struggling Dallas Stars tank after putting themselves in a hole leading 5-2 in the second. EDM is finding ways to lose games right now...I wish I could say the same for our D-Stars.

The Stars have closed the gap with the Sens and now threaten to move into the double-digits of the draft, where they are most likely to end up if you are a betting man. The good news is that the Avs and Philly won their games last night, leaving us with some downward mobility as we head into TOR and STL to hopefully pick up some important Ls to bring this winning skid to an abrupt end.

Draft Seed: 9th

OTT vs Caps

Just give up.

This team will get somewhere around 7~13, which would mean that this team needs a massive upgrade this off-season (in defense and goaltending especially).

If not, its up to the players. Play like this year, and its going to be another "Win or McDavid" BS, but by than, McDavid will be playing on a different team.

I am more happy about 7 than 13/No Playoffs, and I bet there are others as well :) Everyone will look at the lottery, but noone here actually thinks McDavid is our goal, lol.

Also, I don't think winning a few games against underperforming teams will catapult the Stars into a playoff spot. Heck, they just won 6 - 5 in a SO against the Oilers!

Also, why should anyone "give up", the Stars will play how they play, no matter what anyone on this board says. Hoping for a good draft pick is nothing bad, it will actually help this team.

But back to the Tank...

Yesterday, I curled up into a ball and cried all night

If we can tank hard enough to get into the top six or so, trade up. Val + Oleksiak + #6 overall for McDavid. We might have to add more, but there could be something there.

I'd do that and I like Val a lot. Don't like Oleksiak though. The question is if Edmonton would take it.

I think they would laugh at us. Maybe offer that and throw in Campbell and you would at least be able to have a conversation with them for McDavid, but I seriously doubt Edm trades that pick for anything.

Throw Campbell into the mix too. That another asset with perceived value who is actually worthless. If we can package him for McDavid, do it.

Hopefully nobody has noticed that he hasn't been able to secure an AHL starting job over spares like Lindback and Rynnas.

Even if they finish last, they still only have a 25% chance of getting McDavided. If they finish last they will for sure get Eichel at the very worst...at least that's how I understand the new lottery. Oleksiak and Val and whatever for McDavid? No way EDM goes for that.

If Stars somehow finish with a 5-6th OA pick, I'd rather that they save a bit and trade for the 2nd OA and draft Eichel.

The price would be very, very high. I'm not sure DAL has the ammunition to get there. You'd basically have to find a team that' set at center AND has similar grades on and Hanifin, Kylington Werenski, or who simply isn't high on McDavid/Eichel.

McDavid Tank Watch

The tank is officially in trouble. The Sens and the Jackets lost their games, putting an end to the Jackets winning streak on a night where they had the opportunity to leapfrog the Stars and making it all but inevitable that the Stars will soon jump the Sens and see themselves in the 10th draft seed. To make matters worse, the cupcake tour continues tomorrow for us as we play a Toronto team that has lost 3 straight. This run of lucky matchups is just killing team tank right now. Hopefully Toronto plays well tomorrow to snap the skid we are on.

Draft Seed: 9th

Boxscores to Watch:

*DAL vs TOR*
*CAR vs NJD*
PHI vs MIN
BUF vs DET
*BUF vs ARI*....the big showdown!
COL vs STL

winning sucks

Yeah. I was just reading something on how this draft is not as deep as it was once thought to be in the mid-to-late first. We don't wanna end up in that initially overrated mid-round. After 8-10ish there is a big drop. Like...like a normal draft. The top end is really, really strong though. Top 7 or 8 looks wicked. More blue-chippers than normal. I want in that range so bad. Next year I highly doubt we are bad enough to be looking at drafting players of that caliber...probably not for a long time. It's either now or...sometime in the sometime in the very distant future for us to get into the sweet spot of a draft. I wanna see it for once...ever.

I see the point they're making and disagree. That really has a minor influence on the top 30 in the draft in my opinion. But we'll see.

I hope you're right because we're headed straight for that part of the first round that they, and me too for that matter, are not too excited about. I think we're gonna find ourselves in the situation that we normally find ourselves in. Being on the outside looking in and hoping for that blue chip faller...and also hoping that we don't drop the ball if there is that faller. (Cough...Fowler...Cough) I want us to be in the drivers seat for a change. I do have more trust in Nill not to drop the ball in that manner, but I've been traumatized by prior draft mistakes haha. I never rest easy.

We're not out tanking the Yotes either.

Speaking of...the Yotes play the Oil tonight on ARI's second game of a back-to-back. The tank showdown is on! I'm pulling for Arizona. There's a team that deserves a McDavid. They've never had a real franchise player and they are struggling out there attendance-wise. We play them enough to get to watch him, but they're not in our division to kill us night after night. That might be my top realistic choice for McDavid.

Come on Philly! Beat Minny to pass is up in the standings. Their game is 2-2 right now. Of course we need to finish what we've started and lose this game in regulation, but it looks like we've got it under control.
