Win or McDavid?

Oh the night it could have been for our tank. Just about everyone in the basement picked up points last night. We needed a 10% effort out of EVERYONE last night to get the L, not just Ales Hemsky. We got way more effort than that, and climbed the standings as a result. If you listen carefully you can hear the ticking of the cockroach's legs as it tries to escape up the basin of the toilet before the cascade of water sends it to it's death in an underground river of sewage, but you know toilet is too steep and too slick for our cockroach friend.

The good news is that our fellow tankers helped us out. The Sens, Flyers, Sabres, Jackets, Avalanche, and Coyotes all picked up points last night. We now enjoy a few days off to give our legs some rest before resuming our quest for our Draft Day Messiah.

In all seriousness though, how about that effin Tyler Seguin? 16 goals in his last 16 games. If my math serves me correct he's on pace for about 65ish goals right now. It's still early, but If he keeps this pace for another 20 games or so, we can start watching for some records to fall. Wow.

Current Draft Seed: 8th

We almost found a way to lose it too haha.

It felt so weird to cheer for the other team when they scored and be disappointed when Dallas scored. But the season is a lost cause so I don't feel bad about it.

C'mon man enjoy the win, there won't be very many. We played an injured and overall bad Devils team and won by a goal. Gotta support the team, they'll tank accidentally on purpose regardless.

McDavid Tank Watch

Light night of action yesterday. The Oil got shutout by the Rags last night as they strengthened their grip on the #1 draft seed. They are now tied with CAR at 19 Points but have played 2 more games than the Canes. After CAR you jump up 5 points to the next best tanker, Arizona. So the herd is starting separate out a little at the bottom. Can't wait until they lotto picks 1-3 to give perennial tankers like the Oilers a chance to get screwed. I really hate watching Edmonton hoard #1 OAs and they are the last place I want to see McDavid land. RNH, Hall, Yakupov...enough is enough. Share! They need to make a rule where a team can have no more than 4 top 3-picks per 10 years. After their 4th they must pick 5th or later. Spread the wealth around. Or EDM can just take all of the franchise players for a decade, pick their top 3 favorites and discard the rest. That's cool. This year it looks like you can bet that their going to get one of McDavid or Eichel. But hey at least we'd get to watch McDavid or more often than if he went out East like previous generational talents Crosby and Ovy.

Tonight's boxscores to watch:

BUF vs. OTT
NJD vs. NYI

I can't enjoy the idea of a middling draft pick.

It's official... Buffalo just passed the Stars in the standings :)

BUF - OTT 5 - 4 SO
NJ - NYI 2 - 3 SO

That means NJ also passed them in points...

Current Draft Seed: 6th, tied in points with Colorado and Philly...

Gotta love the 3-point game between OTT and BUF. :

We've been getting a lot of help from the tankers. They've all been picking up points. Not counting EDM and CAR. Now we have to take advantage of it and lose a lot.

Jup... Especially, I can't see Columbus to finish below us as long as Bob is healthy... The problem is, I can see any of Colorado, New Jersey or Philadelphia end up below us, even if the Stars play bad...

Is it possible Buffalo has turned a corner? They sure are winning a lot for a team that sux.

Edm makes me wish we could relegate teams to a losers pool until they earn the right to play with teams that don't think competing for the 1st pick every year is success. And only teams being relegated can compete for the top 2 picks, not teams already in the losers pool.

Ugh, Edmonton isn't bad because they want to be its because they have absolutely awful management and a delusional president in Lowe. The losing is awful for everyone.

This is what I said about EDM earlier:

McDavid Tank Watch

Last night was another good one for those of us looking forward to the draft. BUF and OTT played to my beloved 3-point game amongst two tankers, and the Devils picked up a loser point. With the Devils loser point we have temporarily passed them up in the McDavid Race. Yes, temporarily. The problem is that our 5-4-1 record that we sport over our last ten is the kind of record that will see us rise out of the sweet spot and into the "**** streak" of the draft, where it is far less blue chip in nature...the dreaded 9-13 range. We need to do "better" or worse, depending on which side of this you are on, than .500 hockey to stay where we are or better come draft day. The thing that is going to come back to bite us is that we have played less games than most of our bottom-10 neighbors(6 out of 10) and no one has played more games than us in that group. We have 3 games in hand to potentially gain points on NJ at 28 points, 2 games in hand to gain points in BUF at 28 points, and we must lose tomorrow to stay even with COL at 27 points as well as in striking distance of CBJ who is still closer to McEichel than us at 26 points with 1 more game played.

Is it possible Buffalo has turned a corner? They sure are winning a lot for a team that sux.

The Sabres' 7-3 in their last 10 days that they have. Let's hope it's not a fluke.

I see CBJ continuing to rise as well, but these extra games that we haven't played yet compared to the rest of the basement teams scares me. If we can lose 3 of the 4 games against the Canadian teams(VAN, CGY, EDM, TOR) ahead of us, we'd be in better shape. Of those, EDM is the only one we should win on paper. I just want us to live up to our expectations for once this season and drop the other 3. Not asking much right?

For TestGrave and the rest of Team Tank, here's the boxscores to watch for today:

PHI vs TBL
CAR vs MTL
CBJ vs DET
BUF vs Winnipeg
Three-Point Hopeful, EDM vs ARI

Current Draft Seed: 7th

McDavid Tank Watch

For the time being we have "financed" the 6th draft seed, meaning we own it after losing the games in hand that we have on CBJ, NJD, and BUF. If we fail to make our payments, in the form of losses, we could leapfrog all 3 of them into 10th seed blue-chip faller vulture, no man's land. We don't wanna be there. Let's de if they can fall to the occasion over the next few games to at least temporarily solidify a spot in the top 6, where we really want to be this year IMO. If they can do that we will have something to be...tankful...for this holiday season.

Current Draft Seed: 6th

Scoreboard watching for tonight:

Our game if you can't stand to watch anymore
OTT vs NJD

So how about Kari playing a fantastic game and singlehandedly stalling out the tank last night? Lights out! With that win and a regulation loss from the Devils, we have jumped up 3 draft seeds. Let's hope that Kari doesn't make a habit of playing that well until next year.

A Jackets win tonight can put us back to 8th seed, but they would still have a game in hand on us. We do sit a comfortable 3 points behind 10th seed, but 2 of those points are financed so don't get to comfy a winning streak in Canada could put us into the dreaded double-digits and me in a bad mood.

Current Draft Seed: 9th

Boxscores To Watch Tonight:

PHI vs FLA
COL vs PIT
CAR vs TOR
*CBJ vs WSH*
EDM vs San Jose
