I still can't remember if they have disclosed the extent of his injury? Lots of silence on his injury. I wish him the best but I do not believe he has a future as a centre.

ACL / MCL again. Had surgery again. They said he will be ready to go for start of next season though.

Kirby Dach is expected to be out for the rest of the 2024-25 season after undergoing knee surgery. The Montreal Canadiens announced that Dach is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of the next season. He has been out since undergoing surgery on February 28, 2025. "

But I still miss him lol..

He was *there* when we went that crazy run during and after the holidays.. and contributing too

It's easy to forget but Dach got hurt the FIRST game back from the 4 nations break , talk about bad luck
There's a universe where he gets a bit luckier and we're talking about "man that 2 week break did WONDERS for Kirby!"
And maybe helped out even more on the playoff push, I mean we'll obviously never know lol

But I still got a good feeling about him. I don't care lol
Lot of his struggles, pointlessness and minuses came early in the year where he was clearly rusty and not ready

It is *beyond* curious where they stick him in the line up next year...

If I assume that the habs will probably trade for or sign a player who can take the 2C spot and who can stabilize that 2nd line.

I’d probably play Dach wing on the 3rd line next season just for him to get back into it and not having a line depend on him. If he progressively gets better then you can place him wing on the 2nd line with whoever that line will be.

Players like Monahan and Markov, that recovered from multiple consecutive injuries, did so for injuries that occured after they had established themselves as legitimate NHL players.

Agreed. I think he started the season still injured, or at least, not comfortable with his knee. That would explain his hesitant play. So I'm willing to give him rope, and like someone mentioned above, maybe the best scenario is to get a short term 2C this summer, and play Dach at wing until he is really ready. And if it doesn't work, well too bad.

Great point. It’s clear they really wanted him back to head up the 2nd this year and he wasn’t ready. It’s understandable considering he’s missed so much hockey over the years but it doesn’t do anyone any good for him to come back and immediately get hurt again.

Guy was the worst top 6 forward on the team, is having the surgery again, and people are still slotting him in the top 6. We're not a bottom 5 team to be patient with this guy again.

Ideally he slots right into the third line with Newhook and Heinemen. He has top 6 potential, but has lost a ton of time.

He has the talent and skills to be a steal in the future, considering he can't demand much in the way of money when this contract ends. Keep him is my vote.

HAD potential (not has). Had a good month stretch when the team was already eliminated 3 career-ending injuries ago. One of the worst forwards in the nhl for a while now.

Hard as top 2 centers are to acquire might have to give him another chance at center next camp.

Can you imagine where we would be if Dach had developed like we thought? A big 30 goal #2 center, 24 years old.

At this point, we're stuck with a broken item whose warranty has expired. Not much we can do with Kirby except pay for the repairs and then hope for the best.

At this point it's up to him to prove he's not damaged goods. And then, if he stays healthy, it's up to him to prove he's more than a depth player.

He's still an option for 2c 10% chances but now we see him as a 3 line winger. Now I question if he'll become a good 3 winger or a bad one. From what I see, he's very injury prone and he's not playing 100% of his potential. I think he will not throttle his gas pedal because he will be affraid of injuries.

I've given up all expectations and have opted for a Buddhist approach to Kirby Dach. My response to anything Dach-related will hereby be: "Sure, that's a possibility".

So, to your point, sure, that's a possibility.

Contract year. If he wants to be a top 6 player and be paid like one, you better bet he is coming into this season ready. Dach and his agent are fully aware that if this latest trend continues, he's going to be paid as a 3rd liner.

I think most will evaluate him the same... A guy who has solid skating and size with decent offensive ability but has delt with injuries and can't have a complete season with stable momentum.
