Does he feel a bit slower to anyone? I know it's odd to be worried at age 28, but I'm already paranoid for speed decline.

Look at who he's playing with.

He's not losing speed, he has to slow down his speed to match his linemates. When he's going for a breakaway he looks the same speed as always.

They had him on a line with Paces and Tavares, the oldest guys on the team. It doesn't benefit him to accelerate full speed to gain the zone only to wait 5 seconds for his teammates to show up to support him.

At this same exact moment last year, Nylabder was in peace for 55 goal goal and 123 pts, he finished at 40 goal and 98 pts. I expect the same thing this season
At this same exact moment last year, Matthews was on pace for 82 games 64 goals 96 pts, he finished at 81 games, 69 goal and 107 pts. I expect the same thing this season.

Whenever I see this thread rise to the top, my instinct is to reply without reading a single post, and say:

Nothing is wrong with William Nylander.

I think he's still the best skater on the team by a fair margin.

So is it fair to assume that Marner does the exact same thing last year as well

The difference is Nylander always having 1 or 2 6-10 game stretche during regular season where he's completly off and uninterested to play. It's happening every year so yes i anticipate that will happen again this season and will impact again his stats at the end of regular season.

If it doesn't happen this season, would just be a great news for the team

so an acceleration in poins and a more balanced out offensive game?

or will he be added to the pk since he did that last time?

or will he go out and score our last 3 playoff goals and score 3 goals in 4 games, more points than tavares, rielly, marner in less games

I can't tell if this is a shot at the player or not, but knowing how you speak about him, it probably is.

Nylander has replaced matthews's goal scoring in his absence, and for the start of the season now tbh, this has now been the 3rd straight year where he has started the season carrying the most or the second most offensive load on the team.

It's not a hit against Nylander, i like him as player but like i said every year he had stretche where he become off... If that doesn't happen this season, that will just be great. As fan we need to live with bewt and worst of every player.

Like Marner and Matthews, he need to do more come playoff time and leafs will need Nylander, Matthews and Marner raising their game for 60 minute + Ot and 7 game on every series if they want succes in playoff. If those 3 don't raise their game together in playoff, leafs will still lose. I'm not just talking about pts or goal but how they playing overal.

Get AM, MM, WN Playing soft first 30 and play strong hockey last 30 will result of the rest of team playing soft 1st 30 and strong last 30 and you will not win a lot of game hat way.

Like right now Matthews get out and Marner/ Nylander raised their game. We need exactly the same in playoff + same from Matthews...

But the same can be said for all of the core,.so it's not really unique to Nylander, is it?

For example as already noted, Marner usually has a fairly slow start in the fall, which he then shakes off. Maybe this year his stretch of down play is during the winter.since he started the season hotter than normally

I agree that it would be nice for all the core to avoid slumps for the sake of the team

Like i said i didn't talk about production but how they played. It can happen bad stretche where that just don't want go in your way or confidence issu. I doesn't talk about it but about stretche where he look like a guy who don't want to be there and just off like a ghost... Last year its happening i dont know if it was right after he signed his contract or couple of game later.

Its also why i think Berube system will help matthews,Marner and Nylander come playoff time. Big majority of leafs goal scored under keefe was off the rush. When team find a way to minimize those scoring chance, they started everytime to play too much on peripheric unstead of just going to the net and make thing happen. That's what they need to learn and i thing Berube is a good fit for thisbreason. Learn how to create offensive even when opposite team giving you absolutly nothing( a part of the game leafs struggle under keefe). Boston game was a great exemple, how leafs finally beat Boston in regular season in apretty good game? They keep it simple and just attack the net and made thing happen.

Let see if they will able to doing it come playoff time but i really see positive thing this season
