Does he feel a bit slower to anyone? I know it's odd to be worried at age 28, but I'm already paranoid for speed decline.

In the past teams would expect guys to play through being at like 60-70%. Now they're being a lot more cautious with injury recovery times. Don't think it's anything about declining just yet

Look at who he's playing with.

He's not losing speed, he has to slow down his speed to match his linemates. When he's going for a breakaway he looks the same speed as always.

They had him on a line with Paces and Tavares, the oldest guys on the team. It doesn't benefit him to accelerate full speed to gain the zone only to wait 5 seconds for his teammates to show up to support him.
