Obviously the league deems playmaking at a premium that is why they award a point even for a secondary assist.

Can’t say I agree with this logic at all.

A good example was Tavares PP goal on Friday I believe. Marner lost control of the puck that deflected off a Detroit player and went right to Tavares, who spun and scored. He gets an assist, which is ok I guess, although in general i dislike these points, but Reilly also got an assist, and hadn’t touched the puck in like 5 seconds.

That’s why strictly looking at raw points is a dangerous way of evaluating player performance. I get it happens in every game to every team, but it can certainly artificially inflate point totals

Everyone on the ice was waiting for the drop back pass.

I think even his mates were wondering when he was going to pass it back to Woll to restart the attack.

Wonder if some of the players detest that "set play" attack on every powerplay?

Probably detest is a little strong. Every team in the league does it pretty much every PP so it would be interesting to break away from the norm though

50g and 100pts should be the bar for a one-way guy making 11.5 to clear regularly.

Willy's goal last night is another example - two players got assists, but were they 'earned'? Well, they gave him the puck and stayed out of his way.

At the same time there are goals where the player who does all the work doesn't get an assist.

I figure they pretty much average out over a season or more, but it shows how ridiculous it is to point at one play and extrapolate it and pretend it's relevant.

I feel like Montreal was expecting either a drop pass or him to pass off to the wall, you can see even a Hab player cuts off a guy on the wall as Nylander enters the zone.

That thrill was very similar to a MacKinnon type move where if they give it to you, just be assertive and take it and get your scoring chance, no more overpassing.

They cannot change the top unit when Matthews comes back, you make a 2nd unit around him with Domi, OEL, Patches and maybe someone else.

You dont pay for assists in a forward. You pay for goals.

That’s why players that suck at playing hockey but can score goals like Laine make the big bucks.

It’s this stupid mentality that people have that I highly suspect they aren’t capable of playing hockey and other sports.

He has been getting 40 goals the past two seasons, unless injured, he should get 40 goals for the next few years.

Hakan Loob only Swede to ever score 50goals. So yeah it would be amazing for more then one reason. But i would not bet on it universe wants us Swedes to stay humble.

that one-man show powerplay goal last night was pretty dreamy. Wonder how many goals he might have scored the last 9 years with Marner on his line. And one of them was a lefthanded center.
