Don't recall but I've watched pronger play and I've seen him absolutely fill in players after they've scored on his team with or without a "showboat" goal
Yep, tough player no doubt.

Says 'jokes' right in the title

I remember comments about Willy possibly becoming the next Forsberg and how people shot that down because he was too soft. Well he has a long way to go of course to reach that level but he's definitely trending in the right direction. Last couple of seasons the slightest breeze would knock the puck loose or him on his ass. This year he's taking checks, avoiding checks and maintaining puck control. And the best part is that when he doesn't have the puck he's going after it on a fairly consistent basis.

They were shot down because that's insane. I'm as happy as anyone with Willy's play this year and am glad they gave him his contract but comparing him to Forsberg or suggesting he is trending towards being a Forsberg is ridiculous. In his prime when he was healthy Forsberg played like a close to a generational type talent, not too far off from someone like Crosby.

I would be thrilled with with Nylander just being a perennial 30 g 80 p player.

A one off outlier, or is this indicative of a franchise player's numbers? Would Willy be a top 1/2 player on any team? I say maybe. If he was groomed as a centre, probably.
Just based off of forwards I'd say Willy would be the best on:
Anaheim, Columbus, New Jersey, Ottawa, Minnesota

Arguable:
Montreal, Detroit

If you move to top two then you can add teams such as Buffalo, SJS, LA, Nashville, Arizona etc.

You realize I said he's trending in that direction right? I'm not saying he's as good as Forsberg. Not saying he ever will be. I'm saying he's trending towards being more like Forsberg. Hard to knock off the puck. Becoming a puck hound when he doesn't have it. Comparisons aren't always that player A is equal to player B. It can be that they have similar styles or traits. Not everything has to be taken so seriously and literal all the time. Lighten up a bit.

The response was justified, you're just backtracking now. You were defending comments from people saying that Nylander could be the next Forsberg and said he was trending in that direction. You wouldnr say he's trending in that direction unless you thought there was a realistic chance of him becoming the next Forsberg. You're just adding the qualifiers now.

I am defending him trending in that direction. Never once said he could be. But he's improved so much this year and his style is looking more like Forsberg. So continue to try to bully me by reading into my post what's not actually there.

So why was Pronger making these comments when Nylander scores a goal between the legs but it was crickets when Tkachuk has done it. Or how about Svechnikov doing the lacrosse goal twice.
Nobody cares about the Canes or Flames other than their fans, the Leafs have the attention of everyone involved in the NHL. There's a lot of posters on the mainboards that talk more about the Leafs than their own team.

Last 30:

Matthews: 23 goals

Nylander: 18 goals

jeeeez
Mitch has 16 goals all season, he “drives” a line tho right so he’s worth 3/AAV more per year than Willy. :sarcasm:

Like seriously though, I’m soooo glad his name is no longer being brought up as the guy from the “big 4” that will “have to eventually be traded”, other than by idiots in the media like Hayes who still continue with the narrative of how he played last year, blah blah blah.

I absolutely love his game. He wins board battles and fights for position in front of the net .... while Mitch is tip toeing around passing backhand turnovers up the middle of the ice. There is no comparison if you ask me. I don’t care that Mitch gets assists bouncing passes off people’s asses in front, right now for the money Willy is so much more valuable

Giving a take on the other extreme end of the spectrum is equally ridiculous and suggestive of waiting for the right opportunity to prop your player up because of an agenda for one over the other.

Marner had a 90+ pt season last year. It wasn't for no reason people propped him up. I like Willy's game a lot too and he's been my favourite player on the team ever since he was drafted

I will also make the argument Mitch is a big reason why the team has defensive lapses.

In hes prime and healthy Forsberg was the best player in the world, totally dominant.
Forsberg was a freak, intensity and skill and a pissed off force of nature. Don't see the resemblance with Will.

Nylander though is great, one of my favorite players to watch. Now seams very confident and calm good battling around the boards and great carrying the puck and individual skill, good shot also witch forsberg didn't have.

No point in comparing him with Forsberg. Different style of player, different class of player.

As for Marner, the guy is one of the best playmakers to have entered the league in the cap era. Chill. He's an absolutely awesome player that we should be ecstatic about having and getting to watch for 15 more years.

As things are trending, he just might take over Nylander's spot as the guy I'll spend half my time here defending.

Couldn't agree more. It is great to have both Mitch and Willy.

The day will come where both are performing to their ability and it will be a joy to watch.

Why fans want to run him out of town makes zero sense. While he hasn't been his dominant self this year, you don't give up on a 22 year old/ 90 point winger.

People in this fanbase and in the media have basically been attacking Nylander for the last 18 months or so. It seems some of Nylander's defenders think that Marner deserves some of the same crap which is disappointing.
