What does it matter who Nylander scored his goals against in that same area in front of the net, because they all count no matter who the Leafs are playing.
You can argue with me about what I need to see all you want :p The playoffs are kinda rough in case you haven't noticed. I still think Willy is buttery soft. I've never said he lacked skill. I get on him because he has skill in spades. It's his work ethic and commitment to the team I question. I'm giving him credit. He doing what he needs to do right now. Let's wait and see what happens. Until then...I'm just telling you what I need to see.

IMO I agree it's irrelevant. But it must have been a lot of people ****ting on him for it, since Lindros himself had to address it in a tweet lol.

Didn't he just wish him a 'good season'?
Like I said before I think the reason for Lindros writting that tweet was to show he didn't care that Nylander wanted to change his number to 88.

Did anyone care about Patrick Kane wearing it when he started playing in Chicago and last time I checked it's not retired league wide like Wayne Gretzky's #99.

Yes, I agree no one cares.

Here is another reason why Nylander wearing #88 is stupid.

Where was talk like that in the past when Andrew Raycroft had #1 since it was Jonny Bower's number, Shayne Corson wearing #27 since it was previously worn by Darryl Sittler and Frank Mahovlich or James van Riemsdyk wearing #21 since it was worn by Borje Salming. They were Leafs legends and Lindros in his 1 year in Toronto only played 33 games.

I actually did not go back in time and goad people into spending a couple of pages bickering about them before writing that post.

I for one don't see the big deal in people wanting to debate Marner vs. Nylander, but bringing up the topic seems counter-intuitive to what you stated you "hoped"... By discussing it, the dialogue will only continue... thats all I was getting at...

Willie is living up to the value of his contract, he's not playing beyond that value. Yet. However if by some miracle we do make it into the playoffs and he is a driver getting us through the first round, my opinion on this kid will have changed.

Until then he has more work to do.
The average for forwards around $7M is less than 30 goals and around 70 points. Willy under Keefe is on a 45 goal, 85 point pace. He's very obviously exceeding the value of his contract right now.

No miracle needed to get into the playoffs. If we continue to perform like we have under Keefe, we'll get there.

Never understood why something stupid spouted by a few is brought back up like it was some epidemic.
It's just society nowadays. It's the ridiculous and outlandish that gets attention, not the reasonable masses.

This is hilarious on so many levels. Especially the quotation marks around the word 'hoped'.

Yes, by commenting on an on-going topic, I made sure it would continue to live on! ... Except that it died out afterwards.

But I otherwise agree with you. People who tell others to stop fighting about something are the worst.

I quoted it because that is the word you used. Don't read further into it, man...

I get what you're saying, but I think it's just flat-out wrong that a guy on pace for between 70-80 points and 30+, with strong xGF% and GF% metrics is not earning a $6.9m cap-hit. If he's not, very few players are.

Yep.

The current NHL is seeing 50-60 point players get 7 million aav in ufa now. Nylander, especially under Keefe is far exceeding that value. 7 million really isnt even star money in todays NHL any.ore

You think Lindros would wish Nylander randomly to have a good season  ? I really doubt Lindros would concern himself about a player wearing his number for a team he played half a season for, and wish him a good season.
