His critics here even ripped on him for choosing #88, saying "he doesn't deserve it. How can he insult Lindros like that. Lindros would never agree to it"

A tweet comes from Eric he supports Willy choosing the number.

Next comments, "it doesn't matter. He shouldn't have chosen it."
lmao i remember that. The critics are sad af.

Nylander blessing them all this year. His critics should know him choosing 88 has nothing to do with Lindros, and more to do with Patty Kane, one of Nylander's idols.

Willy has been good. Glad to see it. But many of us who are not his biggest fans

I don't think we should trade him for a bag of pucks. I think we should trade him for a D man thoguh while his stock is high. He's had a good first half. I still don't think he'll do well when the games get tighter. But credit where due so far.

What is that based on?

His production is usually higher in the last 3 months than it is in the early going.

I still think he's soft and not willing to get into the tough spots. Look at his goals this year. They're pretty much all against weak competition. Again....big credit to him getting his game back. I hope he keeps it going. But I need to see him perform when it matters to get on board :)

It's progress right? :p

What was even more stupid about that discussion of him wearing #88 is that Lindros while a great player before all his injuries, he only played 1 year in Toronto and it was actually just 33 games because of more injuries. Plus whenever Nylander played for Sweden like at the World Championships when he won MVP in 2017, he was wearing #88.

why don't you look at his goals and where they're scored from?

I don't think it will matter how he "performs when it matters", you'll find a reason to disqualify it if you actually think he's not going to the tough spots this year and just getting freebies against weak teams.

Willie is living up to the value of his contract, he's not playing beyond that value. Yet. However if by some miracle we do make it into the playoffs and he is a driver getting us through the first round, my opinion on this kid will have changed.

Until then he has more work to do.

I get what you're saying, but I think it's just flat-out wrong that a guy on pace for between 70-80 points and 30+, with strong xGF% and GF% metrics is not earning a $6.9m cap-hit. If he's not, very few players are.

No one has ever cared what number he wears.

There was a small amount of Leafs fans who said he shouldn't wear the #88 because it was Lindros number.

It got to a point where Lindros himself had to tweet something wishing good luck to Nylander wearing the #88 like he had his blessing.

Never understood why something stupid spouted by a few is brought back up like it was some epidemic.

I guess some people thought since Lindros was an iconic player no one else should wear the #88 at least on Toronto, even though Lindros only season in Toronto was a total of 33 games played.

IMO I agree it's irrelevant. But it must have been a lot of people shitting on him for it, since Lindros himself had to address it in a tweet lol.

You quoted a post where i said credit where due.

But don't let that stop your argument. lirl

You said 2 objectively incorrect things before that part. I don't honestly know how someone can watch a game and say he's not going to the tough spots when he's among the league lead in goals scored within 5 feet of the net. Are you going to double down and say that all those goals from in tight are all against bad teams now?

He's earning his contract just for his magnificent hair.

What about the guys making $10m plus? They get a pass and Willy is the one still with more work to do?
