Nylander has 32 points in 18 games with the national team. Will be fun to watch what he can do this year.

This is the year I finally jump off the Defend Nylander train. Terrible GA/60 and G+/60 numbers. Very inconsistent. I feel like I am finally ready to consider moving him. Still a 1st line player but we are already a bad GA team, and we can't cover his poor defensive play.

He would thrive in Boston, Minnesota or Tampa.
Talented player, no doubt but he’s never really played on the first line here to prove he is one.
Would he be as productive if he took Matthews and Marners matchup every night?

In that sense he us like Sundin. Always on the national team if he could.
Good on him for going. Always appreciate players who give up their free time to play for their country

No worries, all good.
Pretty disappointing that we don't get that effort here.
Sit down with the dude , listen to what he needs to be his best , give him that.
Extend the leech, and give him the second line with players that gel with him. Dont try to force that kind of player to follow Tavares rules or non pace.

The Swedish team said something like that. Let Nylander dictate. Give him lot of icetime.

Tavares on the third line making scrubs better. He is excelent at that. Or first line instead of Bunting... but not with Nylander.

The effort will come with a bigger role. And more freedom.

Sounds like wishful thinking.
Agree though, Tavares and Nylander aren't a good match.

In the perfect world you can ship Tavares out of town and put Nylander center with wingers that go into the corners.

Didn't he mention Forsberg as an idol and someone he wanted to emulate? Now, I'm not putting him in the category yet, but he's definitely trending in the right direction.
It's a good guess. It's always 4 guys. Mats Forsberg Lidstrom/(used to be Salming) and Lundqvist.

Don't need to ship Tavares out (you can't anyway). Just drop him to the third line. He can still do faceoffs and PP.

The choice at No. 8 was not clear cut. Our scouting staff, led by Dave Morrison and complemented by Swedish savant Thommie Bergman, had two targets: Nylander and Danish dynamo Nikolaj Ehlers, who was starring for the Halifax Mooseheads in the QMJHL. Bergman would make the case for Nylander as potentially the most skilled player in the entire draft. But some of the staff preferred Ehlers because he had developed his game in North America. Others felt Nylander, as a centre, was more versatile.

In both cases, all the pieces were there. And after selecting Nylander — Ehlers went ninth, to the Winnipeg Jets — you could see his game start to build in the American Hockey League. There were glimpses of brilliance at times, but the process couldn’t be rushed, and there’s no time limit when it comes to developing prospects.

Adding to the challenge was a changing cast of coaches, managers and systems. Each change had an impact on Nylander’s progress, and the team’s expectations for him.
There was a major setback in year four, when a prolonged contract disagreement left him on the sidelines through the fall, and unsettled him upon his return to the team. Frustration could have won out at that point and derailed what had been built, but things settled and the process continued.

At times, Nylander has made the game seem almost too easy, but hasn’t been as consistent as his talent suggests he should be. There have been inevitable comparisons to Matthews and Mitch Marner and John Tavares, all of whom have surpassed him in production over the years and garnered more of the spotlight. Was Nylander still missing something that his elite teammates have?

If he was before, he isn’t anymore. All indications are that the work is all but done.

This season, we are very close to seeing the complete Nylander. Consistency is no longer an issue, with at least a point in every game heading into Sunday against the Minnesota Wild in Stockholm. He is making the hard look easy. He’s using the entire ice, going to tougher areas more frequently, making better decisions with and without the puck. In a sport where everything seems to be faster, sometimes slower and clearer is better.

Snakebitten a few games now. Hope he geta out of it much quicker then before. My prediction was that this would start after the christmas hollidays. So the Snakebitten part is a bit early. My hope is that his lows are way shorter then previous seasons. Overall i want to see a full consistent season and playoff (3-5 bad or snakebitten games here and there but not 10-15+ stretches).

So near a goal last game its crazy! That would make me curse my gransmothers beard or how u say it overthere.

Triple post vs Chi, 2 posts last game and a goal on the line. Beryuzzi has hit two posts on Willy feeds. Snakebit is right!

Snakebitten is one thing, not giving full effort is another.

The complaint about him has always been that he takes days (and weeks) off, which hasn't been an issue this year.

He set (or tied?) the record when a shot bounced off his skate and right to JT, who scored. The streak ended when he hit three posts with one shot. Luck both ways. As long as he maintains the effort, I'm good.

And my grandmother had a mustache, not a beard.

Mine had both :)

Nylander got a point again so that was a small bump in the road. Marner might get going now. Its nice to se Nylanders effort. I wonder if Tavares with Matthews and Nylander at C second line would be a disaster. Lucky for all Leaf fans i am not the coach because i would try that. :)
