Just a thought.

I wonder how many fans who are yelling for Nylander to be traded, are the same fans who were yelling for Kadri to be traded.... and now are bitching and complaining about how well he's doing with another team.
Can we expect the same circus of fans bitching and complaining about Willy putting up 80-90 points a year on another team?

Being a Leaf fan is so much fun.
I doubt it very much.

So stupid to trade Nylander... Easier to change the bottom 6 to cheeper players, that play better then the current ones. A lot harder finding a cheeper player then Nylander who play better then him.

Every player let go by the Leafs and picked up by another team suddenly improves by 15-20%.

Every player traded by the Leafs immediately improves by 20-35%.

GOAT, Dermott and Brooks are destroying the League as we speak, lol.

He dont hit anything that moves and don move anything that hits... i think that summes it up or something...
Nylander’s unwillingness to go into the dirty areas of the ice and mix it up with defenders is a red flag for teams contending for a playoff berth.

IMO he is overall, the only one(among the top 4) playing to his contract in the playoffs. The three 11mills are not. They are playing closer to Nylanders contract. Fix that and this series is closed before game 7.

You mean on a worse, life and death to make the playoffs type team? I would argue the opposite. On a lower talent team you probably have a higher balance of lunch pail guys who can do the dirty work and his skill would stand out more.

In Toronto want him to be a lunch pail guy because he's 3rd or 4th in the pecking order, which would be around where you'd have more of the grit and grind ratio. I think he'd be appreciated more here in Toronto if our 5th forward was more like a Tanner Jeannot and less of a Kerfoot...

Stepped up in the playoffs again but sadly our fanbase doesn't think thats good enough

This playoffs was much different than other years. The core showed growth for the first time in the playoffs. If people think trading a core piece will improve the team, they are in for a sad reality.
Stepped up.

0 points in 4 games.
7 points in 3 games.

Describes him perfectly.

I called his effort level a Sine wave.

He has all the tools and skill, but until the effort level resembles a line and not a wave, he will always be looked at in times of failure.

His is also our best contract so he's the attractive piece.

Tavares won't go anywhere.
Matthews and Marner are the cornerstone pieces for the franchise and moving them is idiotic beyond belief.
Reilly just signed long term.

If a shake up is coming, then it has to be Willie leaving.

I do a lot of psychedelic drugs - DMT, LSD, Mushrooms, 2CB, 5meo, Ayuhasca, MDMA.

And I still do not know how so many people here watched this series and thought that one of the primary problems was William Nylander specifically.

If you are one of those people, please tell me what drugs you did to hallucinate this so I can start experimenting with them.

thats a stupid narrative and a dumb point.

Give me the guy who is ppg in his last two playoffs and provides 80 pts for 6.9m all day.

I now have a feeling it is 60/40 they move Willie. There will be plenty of interest in a 35 goal man. God help us if Dubas gets a Kadri return.

Look if it makes the team do it . I'm just willing to bet it doesn't

I tend to agree when it comes to moving Willie unless you trade Willie for the right piece(s) and follow it up by signing a solid UFA to replace him. Kyper brought up Parayko again but I wouldn't.

Funny enough parayko is like the one dude I'd kill for so I'd recluctantly trade willy for IF we can get offense coming back from somewhere as well. It's no secret willy is my favorite player but if it makes the team better im all for it.

I'd consider it for helly too. Like if you're moving william we need to get a pivotal piece back . A core. Not trying to trade a buck for 10 dimes because they disperse and do dick all in the playoffs. We've seen how much kerf and mikh and kase scored in the regular season. But when things tighten up no where to be found. Because that's what makes elite players elite. They can play in tight spaces and this is why im reluctant to let william go.

Usually your stars go ppg in the playoffs. But william is paid like a first liner not even a star. It's tough finding that value elsewhere. JMO. And to those saying but he doesn't hit or blocks shots..... one more blocked shot or hit would have done nothing, one more point and Game 7 would be in OT. Points over everything in the playoffs as long as you're not giving them back just as easily on the defensive end. Which william is not.

Agreed with this assessment. Any Nylander trade needs to bring in a sure-fire improvement to the roster. 80-point players don't grow on trees, especially at his cap hit. Got to get something good and then we need to replace the goals he brings.

This is the year I finally jump off the Defend Nylander train. Terrible GA/60 and G+/60 numbers. Very inconsistent. I feel like I am finally ready to consider moving him. Still a 1st line player but we are already a bad GA team, and we can't cover his poor defensive play.

He would thrive in Boston, Minnesota or Tampa.

he would also thrive in toronto... no wait he IS thriving in toronto.

I don't think he is. I think he needs to be surrounded with a better defensive group, ala Karpizov.
he most def is. 80 pts ppg in the playoffs for 6.9. If he was great defensivey he'd cost as much as stone.
