then he did kill penalties for a short while. So that is not valid. Then Marner and Mathews would be minus players as well especially not Marner who gets the most pk time.

....You don't get a minus if you're scored against on the PK. You literally do not know what you're talking about.

Playing on the PK inflates your plus/minus because you can only get pluses.

Do not hold your breath waiting for him to do anything but disappear against a team that hits.
We will see .. lots of fans told me I was crazy when I told everyone ahead of Habs series he would be our best player .. and he was .. he has all da skills - he can flat out fly, he can shoot, he can carry puck and make plays and he goes to dirty areas to score (so says stats guys) .. what clearly is his issue to me is he takes OFF games .. Sabres not an overly hitting team yet he took that one OFF

He can be very good when he wants to be. This past month or so is the Nylander we've seen in the past. Whether he brings it again in the playoffs remains to be seen. Having the luxury of playing against lesser competition is certainly in his favour.

Nylander has been playing horrible for more then a month especially defending. Lazy and uninspired. Sorry but the truth hurts. I hope we trade him at the trade deadline to Arizona
If it’s for Chychurn sure

anything else and I don’t see the need

I think he like many young talented and skilled players get comfortable and just is like whatever dude. Currently, it is showing as for contact avoidance...I mean we can ignore it and avoid it when he is producing but since he is not at the level he is used to....it is very visible now.

That’s the only caveat about last year, the Habs entire focus was on shutting down the top line, which obviously provides better opportunity for the second and in some respect, you rely on that, depth is our strength after all. This fact, plus it was one round, the “proven performer” stuff to me is a bit exaggerated, but I loved his jam so fair enough I suppose.

I have faith too he will show up, it’s just I thought this Bill was in the past and I’m now seeing the same things, so it’s a bit disappointing right now. He will start feeling it again, he has an artists temperament, moody, but when he’s inspired look the f*** out!

I know how it works. He is Not playing on the pk so not what. You are the one who stated it as an issue. Get a clear idea of what you are talking about. He is hot garbage defensively as seen by his massive minus this past 2 months

He was good against a bunch of light weight players last year. He has failed to show up any other series and I doubt he will this year.

Montreal had goaltending and some good defense. Team was lucky to make the playoffs good matchup account for his success.

He had a great series with a great match up. Lots of small young forwards.

Pretty much.
Maybe tired of Tavares.
I’m sure he’s prefer playing with Marner or Matthews

We can’t trade him. His shot might be the difference this post season.

The "soft" lable here is a bit overused. None of the Leafs core four forwards are what I'd call "hard" or "gritty" so bringing this up to single Nylander out always seems more than a bit silly. Matthews does well using his body - though so does Nylander in protecting the puck ect.

It's true, though a strong showing against secondary matchups can be the difference between a cup or not. Ie Kessel leading the Pens in scoring their 2016 cup victory.

Personally I'm more apprehensive about the 1st line flopping again. That's a big mental barrier to break, though this is the best hockey they've played together and I'm sure they will do just that.

Agreed. Though Nylander doesn't seem as engaged as he was earlier in the year. He seems a bit off. He doesn't have that jump that was allowing him to gain body position to win battles and has seemed a bit more behind lately.

Earlier the year (and in the playoffs) he was more aggressive with his body positioning which allowed him to get inside of puck carriers and box them out as he turned the puck over.

Maybe he's dealing with an ailment or is just in a slump.

Also he and Tavares just seem out of sync too, they're moving at different paces on the ice and are having a hard time finding each other. Every time Tavares gets a break in the offensive zone it seems like he's battling 1 on 2 and doesn't have an outlet to pass it to.

that might just be Tavares' typical tunnel vision and overconfidence. Sometimes he thinks he's a skilled forward and tries to go in all alone then gets beaten down thoroughly and deservedly by the opposing D.

He’s been pretty bad for a while now. 4 goals in his last 8 games but he’s a -7 in that stretch. He’s a -11 on the season, compared to his linemates (Tavares at -4, Kerfoot at +15) that’s uniquely bad.

Feels like he was playing himself higher into the Big 4 earlier in the season but his deterioration in play has been disappointing.
