Minute left on the clock, Leafs down 3-2 in game 4 against Jackets, Nylander goes on an elite end to end rush to facilitate the tying goal. To pull off that edge work spin off way deep in our own zone followed by the end to end zone entry under those conditions in the playoffs takes massive killer instinct and ice in your veins. We lack this so can't trade it away.

Follows it up with being our best offensive forward against the Habs.

Nylander is not on my worry list for the playoffs. He's going to bring it.
Love the optimism.

You don't feel his play has been lacking a bit ? He's been the same consistent player all season?
Pointing out the current state of play isn't being toxic, it's just being objective.

The toxic part is the constant use of things like disinterested, doesn't care, floating...he isn't consistently giving 100% every shift, but really who does? You are correct, when he's struggling people have every right to talk about it. The toxic part is using terms that are just untrue. I wasn't targeting you or Dark Knight. I was just making an observation.

All good.
Those terms have been used to describe him his entire career so when those habits appear to be popping up it can be cause for concern.

If he didn't have such vast potential I doubt people would care as much. When he's engaged he's very good, we'd just like more of the very good.

His shot this year could make all the difference in the playoffs.

Amazing snipe this year.

Who cares about the regular season ?

Save it for the playoffs Will Nye.

This guys end of season goal compilation video is going to be a beauty. It's all snipes. Can't wait for the envy from other fan bases

Probably close to, or at 30 goals by now if that line was still getting the puck to the net. We've seen he can rack up the ugly goals in bunches. What a shame the line went so cold to the point there has been no pucks hovering around the crease for him to get.

I think the "lazy" or "not engaged" labels are, and have been, waaaay overused with Nylander. I think his game-to-game performance is pretty consistent. People just complain because his skating and movement are so fluid, that he doesn't "look" like he's hustling compared to grinders who flail all of their limbs while they skate. Nylander's skating style carves the ice and keeps his body compact, which is what you want.

Because people don't "see" that he's working hard, they just assume Nylander was useless if he doesn't pop up on the scoresheet.

Those terms are still true. Lazy and soft.

I've seen plenty of William passes get no results because of bad tip attempts or just not being able to handle the pass. Too bad William could easily have another 10 points. Oh well I think he will be ready for the playoffs.

Nylander was the Leafs best player against the Montreal Canadiens and their big mean defensemen!! Weber! Chiarot! Edmonson!! Big Hitzzzz! How did Nylander survive??
Are you in the Dark Ages? Plus/minus? It's a completely useless stat.
Comparing players from one team to another plus/ minus is useless but comparing players on the same team it’s very valid.

It's quite literally not. Plus/minus tries to identify a player's even-strength goal differential, except it mixes in random other game states and counts some goals but not others. You get a minus for an EN goal and SH goal against. So it's automatically tilted against players who play in those situations. You can't get pluses, but you can get minuses.

This would apply to someone like Nylander.

then he did kill penalties for a short while. So that is not valid. Then Marner and Mathews would be minus players as well especially not Marner who gets the most pk time.
