I think they'll have to think about it real hard, it's the last summer that they've got the compliance buyout option and this current playoff push might have some teams interested in a trade. If the Kings decide to keep him and his game continues to deteriorate it's gonna be a disaster. If I had to make the decision I would lean towards a trade/buyout but if I'm gonna guess what Lombardi does I'm guessing Rick stays around.

How many Mike Richards threads does one site need?

Moving him makes little sense and if you take a look at how DL has worked over the past few seasons he sure seems to honor agreements more so then being one of those GM's that ditch a player at the first sign of trouble.

Thats not entirely true. Vishnovski comes to mind...

Moving Richards to 3LW could be an option since many of us are displeased with King there.

Richards-Stoll-Williams doesn't look bad on paper.

This would also open the door to one of Vey, Shore or Weal as our 4C.

I disagree. What I said was entirely true.

I didn't say that DL always 100% of the time honors every contract he makes. I did say that "he sure seems to honor agreements more so then being one of those GM's that ditch a player at the first sign of trouble" which is very true.

He moved Vis (I didn't like the way that was handled at the time) and you could argue that he did something somewhat the same with JJ but those are two examples compared to many many more that he has honored that most GM's would have bailed out on.

In this case MR has more than proven himself as a very valuable part of our success where neither Vis nor JJ had done so at the time they were moved so the comparison isn't exactly the same. MR has a much greater chance at having his contract honored the way I see things anyway then did Vis and or JJ.

I would also point out that in those two contract situations that both of those players were moved for considerable and needed upgrades to our team. It isn't like they were simply cast aside because they had a bad season. That is more my point.

he did trade JMFJ after signing him to a hometown-discount contract.....anything is possible

See above for my thoughts on the matter.

He moved JJ but then JJ hadn't proven himself to be as important to our winning a cup as MR has and is continuing to do so or so some believe. Also JJ wasn't jettisoned out for having one season where he performed below some fans expectations (and likely some coaches too). He moved him to fill a much needed spot and for a great young player.

He moved JJ while he was at the top of his young market so it isn't really entirely the same thing.

The real question is will KK11 be in this section next year? I believe he gets traded to the main board for future infractions.

that was more-so in regards to your "he seems to honor agreements" comment. players sign contracts at a discount because they have their GM's confidence that they wont be moved. Dean is a great GM, but business is business. he doesnt always honor agreements

Don't think Richards gets moved this offseason. Next offseason, it could be a different story, with Muzzin, Martinez, Toffoli, Pearson, and Jones all needing significant raises and also Williams, Stoll, and Regehr potential UFAs (Martinez is one as well).

Its a shame how fast his play has dropped off. I guess those concussions really messed him up. Someone brought up the idea of trading him for Evander Kane of the Jets, which I'd be up for. Though I doubt many (if any) teams will take him with his pricey contract.

I didn't say that he always honors his contracts though. I did say that he does so way more often then not and that part is true. That is all that I am saying. That and the fact that we won the cup and have remained a top 4 team since MR has been here will do nothing to sour DL on the guy when it comes to moving him.

If MR is to be moved it would be either at his behest or for a legitimate upgrade and a sort of change of culture in the locker room. JJ was moved but who we were as a team at the time and what he returned have to be considered when making that point imo.

Richards is having issues with his shoulders.

Been this way for months. He has been taking injections from time to time.

At some point though, it's too much of a liability. He's always playing entire seasons with injuries. One year in Philly it was a broken wrist. Might've been both now that I think of it. Kopitar has 2 more years on his current deal, and Brown's looks like it's going to be a killer. They can't be tied to both Brown and Richards when neither can be counted on anymore to be 50-point players at numbers north of 5.

if Richards is hurt and bounces back next year, that would be a huge boost to this team that already looks insane. Add a full year of kopi gabby, and the kids with carter, the sky is the limit on how good we will be next year.

all i know is regardless of what brown and richards have done this year we are still 1 game from another finals. 3 conf finals in a row with 2 player playing very poor in the reg season. Brown has always been streaky (from year to year) next year should be his "up" year hopefully. I would hold on to them and see how it shakes out.

whatever happens, Dean better do whatever god awful things he needs to do to sign Kopi when his contract is up

It was 2011 and it wasn't broken. He had torn cartilage and ligaments in his left wrist, from training camp on. And the FLyers training staff advised against surgery until the off season (wrong advice) He was able to handle it until the winter , the last half of the year (esp getting hacked and slashed on f aceoffs since he's a lefty) were brutal and he tolde ESPN (post trade interview) by March the 'pain was crippling and affected everything" I can't help but think that since Pronger was out 4 times that year with injuries and missed most of the year, a part of MR's decision was due to that, he didn't want to leave the team more shorthanded than they were. Just a theory.

The only other time he played with an injury thru part of the year was 2008-2009 when he had torn labrums in both shoulders for the latter half of that year.

If Richards shoulders are that messed up I really hope he considers going under the knife so they can properly heal. That's brutal.

The issue with Richards is that they have an out by using a compliance buyout. They can't keep 17 guys from the 2012 team forever. It's putting the cart before the horse today, but you can't have too many guys tied up on monster numbers into their mid-30's.

Richards will be a King AINEC. Did I do it right?

It's amazing the love for a guy during the 2012 & 2013 playoffs has turned to hate in such a short time. This is a classic example of the 'what have you done for me lately' syndrome that runs rampant through HF.
