Will PK Subban be a Hall of Famer when it is all said and done?

He's been/is a great ambassador for hockey and is one of the most known personalities around the sport, good advertiser and a "poster boy". But i just can't see him there next to Pronger, Lidström etc.

It's Hall of Fame, not Hall of Vital Statistics. He's not a slam dunk, but I think he has a decent shot of making it.

And playing for Montreal.

That's actually bad for one's HHOF chances, as there's a very good claim to be made that the best players available at each position are mostly identified as former Montreal Canadiens (or had at least playeda significant part of their career).

(Well, it was the case prior to Vachon getting in)

I'm trying to think of a moment in PK's career which is beyond memorable for good reasons (on ice). He doesn't have that marquee moment, that historic photo for the books. Other than a Norris, he doesn't have major accomplishments or records or anything that sets him apart from other good dmen.

For me it's a hard pass

Yeah I watched the Montreal Canadiens a lot. Subban was a good player but also a grand embellisher. I remember when he was in Nashville trying to be a comedian talking about Crosby's "bad breath", playing him rough and trying to get into his head in the Stanley Cup Final. I also remember Crosby playfully smacking his head on the ice when the two were tangled. Well we all know how that series ended.

Revisionist falsehood! Nothing playful about it. The ref that was 10 feet away must have been borrowed from pro wrestling. It was a low point for the NHL.

A league that claims that it is concerned about shots to the head. We all know that isn't really true or players would get punished more for such antics.

PK needs a few more strong seasons to be a HOF. I believe that he has some back and/or neck issue. Do you see him throw the reverse hit anymore? He was never a rocket on skates, but he became visibly slower with Nashville for some reason.

He has more of such moments than quite a few players in the HHOF (though I agree he's not making it unless he seriously turns things around).

5-Time NHL All-Star. 3 Gold Medals - 2 World Juniors and 1 Olympic.

Going back in my mind here but wasn't he the 7th D on that gold Olympic team? Pretty sure he only dressed because Olympic rules let you run a longer bench so Babs used him for just PP time really.

Anyway, PK is in the Hall of Very Good and nothing else. Definitely a top pairing defender but there are at least a half dozen more from this generation that I consider far more worthy than him.

[edit] Just looked it up - PK played only a single game at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and it was a round robin game against Austria. He may have gotten a gold medal out of it, but he didn't do anything there to add to his career resume.

I guess playful wasn't the right word, but he was trying to embarass him, not kill him.

He was doing it for the camera, and he wasn't hitting him that hard.

Sitting on a guy and grinding your glove into his face then bouncing his head off of the ice 5 or 6 times is always a lot of fun, unless you are on the bottom.

He can if he throws together a few more strong seasons. He’s now on his second crap season in a row, so it isn’t looking good.

To get in the HOF he will need to get back to being an elite D-man and add some longevity at that level. He has that Norris that as many said comes with an asterix (short season no cross conference play)

Career points per game of 0.61 and dropping fast. best season is 15G and 60 points.

Some Guys who are not in HOF who have comparable/better numbers and longevity

Steve Duchense. 752 pts in 1113 games 0.675 per game) Played a long time, no hardware but played in era where Bourque/coffey were winning all the Norris. career best is 25 goals and 82 points
Mathieu schneider 743 pts in 1289 games or 0.576 per game. Career highs are 21 g and 59 pts which he did as a 36 year old
Randy Carlyle 647 points in 1055 G for .613 ppg career best 16G 83 pts

Yeah some of that is a different era but the only way I see Subban getting in is a late career resurgence. Probably needs to play another 6 or 7 years while maintaining at least a .60 PPG, win a cup and contending for or win another Norris

I don't see anything in his current play to indicate that any, let alone all, off the bolded will happen.

That's the first time I seen that in over two years. Nobody actually hurt.
