Hey I never tried to credit! I got my own stuff I take credit for!

Anyways, I'm done here since anything I post seems to somehow get translated to:

"Zach is a horrible person because he told all the fans he would be back"

even though I say almost the exact opposite each and every time.

The thing that Zach did that REALLY pissed people off was the day the team returned from LA. A bunch of fans waited in the rain to greet the team he told people in line "not to worry" and "he would be back" that is a dick move when he never ever planned on coming back, especially by that point. Add the stuff said to Sal and Marty and that pisses people off. He could of been coy or just kept it to himself.

Clarkson didn't really do that. People assumed he wanted to go back to Toronto, and the rumors of gigantic stupid contracts made what happened obvious. No one really blames him for it as A. its a bad contract and he isn't worth it and B. He would of been crazy to turn it down. He didn't actively plot to leave the team during a playoff and eventual finals run.

Plus I believe if we overpaid we could of kept Clarkson if Lou wanted to...Lou just knew it wasn't worth it. I don't think Zach was ever going to come back no matter what Lou did.

Also that whole "I want to play with a winner" ******** was annoying too. If Zach wanted to win he wouldn't have went to the damn Wild. It would still of sucked royally, but if he went to Pitt or Detroit you can at least sort of respect that.

I was so sad I missed welcoming the players back. God damn rain caused too much traffic for me.

Then again.. I probably would HATE Parise if I heard that myself. Right now its just a mild dislike that will definitely manifest itself when we play him.

You don't text buddies on other teams about joining up with them while leading your team in the playoffs. Sorry, doesn't happen.

alright you have a different argument then everyone else, still the same thing. hes not a robot who plays then shuts down after a game. with an option that massive weighing on you all that time im sure anybody would start going over it with a good freind, especially a friend in the same situation.

you say you wouldn't, so be it, i could say i wouldn't but i know i would be lying. i guess thats where we disagree.

but either way we will both be booing.

I can't hate. I do love a good booing, though. Booing is as fun as cheering.
It's a shame that so long has been since the Parise ordeal, because I kind of lost the motivation. The crowd will probably give me the boost.

He left like a dick, but you know what? Like so many before him, he's stuck in his own hometown when (yes, when) he doesn't live up to that contract. That'll be sports karma in itself.

I can't be mad, because years later... how much fun do we have looking back on the careers of guys like Gomez and Holik?
Martin was fun for a while, but I assume regression is back in order for him.
How much **** did the receiving team offer up? We have at least two more opportunities to do that.

Clarkson I can't and won't boo.... but tell me you can't wait to look back on that contract sometime soon with a hearty chuckle?

never really said you and you alone said those things, when you disagree with 90% of the people in a thread, those 90% start to blend together, my bad.

Would I want to go play in my hometown? Yes.
Would I want to go make $100M? Yes.
Would I want to play with good friends? Yes.

Would I arrange that while still a captain for another team? Nope. I'd patiently wait until free agency and work on it then like everyone else.

EDIT: make sure to look at the Marty quote I posted in the page before this one.. it's a doozy.

The warm ups during pre game are always the funnest when a former player returns. The first game Holik came back to the Meadowlands was a riot during warm ups. All kinds of signs, people gathering at the glass to mock him, and boo.

Gomez's first game at Prudential Center was also very fun during warm ups. Same **** there. Niedermayer's first game back was kinda fun too. The warm ups weren't as intense, but there was this guy a few rows ahead of me who kept saying all this **** about Nieds the whole time during warm ups and throughout the game. I don't remember the everyone mocking him by the glass, or as many signs like the Holik/Gomez first games back.

I expect Parise's first game back will be similar to the Holik/Gomez debacles. I would like to come up for that game just to see the warm ups alone.

A direct quote where Marty expected Parise back..

Anyways, good to know this was all because you wanted to win an argument rather than actually wanting to talk about why Parise will be booed.

I honestly will not be surprised if we see a number 9 or two get thrown on the ice. Definitely possible.

I didn't have access to many Devils games, Devils fans or any form of life, at the time.
What was the general reception to Niedermayer's return?

Personally, I found it inevitable and wasn't the slightest bit mad. Except I kept seeing flashes of that Scowl on mama Nieds face

I still have my Parise jersey in my closet.

Bittersweet since I bought it the day of the Kovalchuk signing

Debating whether to chuck it on the ice or change it over to Kovy/Henrique.

You'd see a lot more memorabilia on the ice if it were not for the lockout.

Niedermayer was pretty much booed all night when he touched the puck. It wasn't quite what Gomez and Holik got. It had already been almost 3 years since he left though, and I think fans had a little more respect for him since he played for all of our cup teams.

That game happens in 05-06 and not 07-08, then the reception could have been similar to what Gomez and Holik got. Especially during the warm ups. Nieds kinda got lucky that we didn't play the Ducks in 05-06 at home. I don't think we played them at all that season, and the first time we played him was around Thanksgiving of 06 in Anaheim. I'm pretty sure we lost every game on that road trip too ugh.

if you go back to my post that started u on your hunt u will see where I say it doesn't matter either way. U were just hell bent on proving my wrong on that aspect. Sorry if I can enjoy an online debate and not take it personal.

You know....for a somewhat new poster, you sure like to "debate" a lot with Devilchuk. :sarcasm:

It's like I'm watching Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal here.

Anyway back on-topic(and enough of the verbal assaults on each other) :

Clarkson will not be booed by many while Zach will be booed by plenty.

THE END.

Man, I go to sleep and miss a great discussion. But reading what a lot of people say leads me to some conclusions. And I might be wrong. But when Lou had a chance to sign ZP long term but concentrated on Kovy (even though Kovy did string teams around longer, but he picked us so that is OK I guess). I started getting nervous that Zach would leave. When the next summer they could only come to a one year agreement I got more nervous. But thought to myself, Lou will lock him up during the season. I know he doesn't normally, but Zach deserves to be the exception. Then after we went to the Finals, I remember TG writing an article that many of you are talking about. It was mid June, Zach did say things like he planned on staying here, and so on. But in that same article he said he still hadn't received a contract offer from Lou. At that point, I figured we had at best a 50% chance of signing him. Just like everyone here figured Clarkson was going home, and Scotty was wanting to play with his brother, I figured it was Minnesota and us at that point.

And do you guys really think NHL players aren't friends with other NHL players. And some guys they grew up with. And some guys they went to school with, or played in junior with. Of course you don't. You hear it all the time, I spoke to so and so about the organization. So why are you guys so upset he was talking to a childhood friend. They all do it. I would bet lots of money, Clarkson was texting guys throughout the year that he is friends with that play for certain teams. The only difference is ZP got a lot more media attention because he is a much better player. And writers asked those questions, because that situation was unique in that there were two really good players available (not like this year where there were none).

So I guess I am not upset because I've seen this happen so many times now, that it doesn't stun me. But it seems it stunned a lot of you guys. Because he said he loved this team (which he might have) and in your heart you felt he couldn't leave.

And the one thing I will boo Zach about, is if he didn't leave, Lou doesn't give that terrible contract to Zajac, which to me is the worse contract in Devils history (but I guess that's for another thread)

A whole group of fans should plan it out to run down the aisle and throw all their 9 jerseys on the ice at the same time

I'll boo Parise every time he returns, but I'm honestly over it. Zach was one of my favorite players, and he may have chased the money and led us on, but in the end he could have spurned us even further by going to a rival. At least he is in Minnesota where he will most likely remain irrelevant to the rest of the league.

At some point, I'll get over it enough to break out his jersey again. I'll get over it enough to even get a Wild shirt or jersey in his name (Wild WERE my favorite team in the West so I'll always have a soft spot for them). But with all that said, I will mercilessly boo him every time he returns to New Jersey for the way that he left in the end. Outside of when he comes back to New Jersey, I couldn't care any less about it.

It is the Parise camp that wanted the one year deal, He was never going to sign long term there he was going to get to FA and that was that. Its like blaming Cleveland for losing LBJ . Sometimes the player dictates the situation not the club and as much as a ZP fan I was I will argue that he is not the same player and long term we will be the better for it. Look at the two years before the knee and two years after. I believe that 70 pts has become his ceiling he's a 32/32 guy. When your hit is 7.75 mil you need more production that that.

Those are all assumptions by you. Lou said it was the best thing for both parties at the time.
