The way Mitch is going; and given that he gets sheltered minutes especially at home - I think he is going to surpass his point totals from last season. I am expecting Mitch to hit anywhere between 65 to 75 points this season.

And if he hits that he is probably going to get 8M
We will probably use Pastrnak as the comparable in negotiations

I don't know if a 30+ goal scorer is a comparable, its possible Mitch gets stuck with less offensive linemates next year also. Bozak/JVR will be hard to replace.

He and Ehlers be will be the primary comparables for them. If we sign him this off-season that's probably around what he and Nylander will get. I'm hoping closer to Ehlers of 6m times 8 than Pastrnak's 6.666 times 6.

I would be more than happy if Mitch could be signed at a decent deal; but at the rate he is going he is going to be anywhere between 7 and 8 million dollars; Pastrnak is probably going to be used for Willy as a comparable.

Marner's role will be very Kane like in the future; he drives offense on his line. If he had a more competent center to play with he might have outscored Matthews in a sheltered role lol

marners lack of scoring is going to hurt his negotiations, I believe. I wouldn't feel comfortable paying 6-7 mil aav for a 10-20 goal guy, imo.

I am sure I will be trolled for this opinion...

Why pick just this year for your argument?
This season he has had some bad luck and has a ridiculously low shooting percentage (6.3%).

He scored 19 as a true 19 year old rookie out of junior. That projects to at least 20-30 any season now.
Add in 50-60 assists, and you might have a guy leading the Leafs in scoring.

Prior to last year Bozak and JVR spent the most of their time with Kessel, that line always struggled to outscore the opposition even tho they put up decent numbers.

2 years ago Bozak and JVR with PA put up decent numbers until they were injured but they were able to score well but again had problems outscoring their opponents. How did they do that, Babs played them against easier matchups and played Kadri mostly against the opposition's best.

Last year Bozak, JVR and Marner had great seasons and by the end of last year Kadri's line and Matthews' line were doing the heavy lifting.

Even in an ever increasingly less responsible role the Bozak line just continues to struggle, I can't figure out why that line is still together?

Probably to help their trade value. That, and, well, is anyone on our fourth line any better? Not really. IMO, it seems Nylander will shift to center next season, Kappy will finally get the big call up, and Bozak will likely walk as a UFA. If the team is still in playoff contention at the trade deadline, I don't see them trading Bozak. JVR is still a bit of a question mark. His production has been consistent for years now. He doesn't seem to be showing that "it's my contract season, so I'll finally start putting in some effort" attitude, that most players playing for their big contracts do. If a player like Marleau can eclipse him points wise by the end of the season, it might put the management in a good spot to negotiate a long-term contract, with a cap hit that's $6m or lower. His agent would be hard pressed to negotiate a 6.5-7 contract when a guy that's 10 years his senior is out producing him for less.

JVR is harder to replace than Bozak, since Nylander would likely exceed what Bozak can do at C, and a player like Kapanen could step in and help fill the void Nylander would leave on the wing. As far as replacing JVR, we don't really have a player on the farm that could do what he does. I don't see a player like Leivo being a solid replacement for him.

It's just my two cents. Anybody can be traded at any given point in time. If a solid trade offer comes along, players like Bozak and JVR are looking good because their numbers are better.

So much for a sophomore slump. Basically on the same pace he was last year. Lets see if he can ever improve on it. Best part is, it's coming with more sustainable numbers and better possession.

If you assume his shooting percentage goes back up to similar levels last season and JVR still clicks on a decently long run, 70+ points is not out of the question. His numbers are now less reliant on PDO and his line mates, and he is an improved possession player. He's guaranteed points on the PP clearly.

Trolled noooo. Disagreed with... hell yeah bud.

His agent will put some points 60 stats on the table if his current point generating stats hold.

Matthews plays more minutes and if Marner keeps this up could have a better points 60 evennif you calculated the 10 games Matthews missed in.

His shooting% is way below league average and he could easily become a 25 goal player in a couple years.

There is a expression that says, " make due, where you are, with what you have"!

Marner is doing that on a frame that is still not filled out enough for the physical side of being a doninant forward. Its a slight need to his development. His shooting percentage is a unsustainable to a positive position.

He is just not strong enough yet!!!!

He is going to get some huge money dude!!!

It won't be a concern scoring goals in the future for him. Even if he scored 15 goals a year, he will likey be a point per game player.

Point per game is large bucks.goals won't be a factor when he helps you win games and plays with heart all the time.

So thats my 2 cents on that.

All of this! I dont see Marner getting less than 60 points this season, which would mean year 1 and 2 in the NHL as a 60-65 point player. Add a 3rd year where you gotta assume hes gonna get better....oh boy! You pay players like this big bucks...try to get him in for 8 years, at a decent amount, whatever that may be a year from now, and youre good to go!

Long term deals for young players that have proved they can produce at a VERY young age work out for the team the majority of the time.

Morgan Rielly's deal is looking pretty sweet right now!!! He is one point off last years total in half the games. So £¥<&!^g sweet.

Montreal burned on Subban big time and so on!

Matthews is still going to be the most dominant of the three. Marner will be a point machine that just gets stronger each year for a couple years. Willy playing Matthews wing is sweet chemistry that will see him being a point machine too.

Its a very expensive trio we have. All point per game players could be a peojection someone could make.

That said, management has to do a outstanding job drafting and developing defensemen.

Marner leads the team in scoring with Matthews. Wow, who would have thought that a 6'3". 216 pound center would ever manage to have a injury and a scrawny 170 pound winger would have none and still actually be alive and surviving this long in the Nhl let alone leading the scoring for the team eh,

Stereotyping players is wrong haha.

That said, i hope Matthews never misses another game!!!!

Joe Thornton says hi.
Ryan Johansen is being paid 8M/yr for 14 goals last season and is currently on pace to score 12 goals this season.

Yet the same poster thinks Marner should get 4.5M/yr.
Willie will make big money, Marner won't make more than Kadri 4.5. Mitch doesn't drive a line, create or score and is not an offensive threat away from the PP. Sorry dude but that's the truth.

A weird trend I’ve noticed the past year or so is lots of Leafs fans only seem to be focusing on goal totals and ignoring assists. Wonder if this is a side effect of having one of the top pal scorers in the league in Matthews because I feel this goal obsession wasn’t as strong before drafting him.

Assists matter, a lot. You take a goal scorer’s setup guy away and those goal totals will plummet.
