There are very few teams left that can take on Kerfoots 3.5, and most of the teams that have the space, are likely on his NTC. Hard to see Kefoot or Holl being traded for any value with cap space at a premium, many players left in UFA, and many teams desperate to clear cap room
There's a definitely a market for Holl. He's a cheap and effective RHD. Teams and GMs love to overrate RHDs. I know Leaf fans ride him but like most whipping boys, he's not nearly as bad as the fanbase thinks given his salary.

If you are either not going to sign Sandin or not play him 19 to 20 min per game Holl stays. If you are going to see what Sandin can really be, he has to go.
Holl is what Holl is. Sandin is either Ray Bourque or another Stuart Percy.

20 minutes a night is too much for Sandin right now and way too much for Holl always.

I don't see any other practical application here unless Keefe/Dubas believe Holl is best as a number 6D. 2 million a year for your number 6 is not good cap management.

Kerfoot can play up and down the line up. He's not my fave leaf, but he has versatility.

I don't see how Dubas could move either at this point. Would I be shocked if either were moved? No. Dubas has to make tough decisions based on the tight cap.

I suspect both will be there.

They're the ones who get put into trade proposals, but Kerfoot has great production for his contract and plays both special teams. Holl had a rough year last year, but has #4 RHD history and is making 2m. These guys are literally what good depth pieces look like and we'd be trying to trade for them at the deadline if we shipped them out.

Just thinking out loud but, I would imagine Muzzin would go on LTIR after physicals at training camp. Sandin is signed to some $2 million-ish deal (back pocket deal is negotiated), and Muzzin stays on LTIR till the current cap overage ($1.5 million) + Sandin's salary is covered off. If it's something in the neighbourhood of $3.5 million, that would be 62.5% of Muzzin's salary, so I guess that would mean he misses about 50 games.

If they need to activate Muzzin sooner, a Holl or Kerfoot or something else might shake loose earlier than that. Someone double check the math and CBA.

I love Muzz but dudes 33 and has a lot of hard miles on his body a few concussions. Im sure he wouldnt mind sitting on LTIR and collecting his money.

who would replace him though? Our d core is pretty soft without him

Holl is indeed pretty good bang for the buck and fills a position of need yet takes so much grief. I guess people expect him to play like a 7 million dollar guy or something, very strange.

Holl is back training with Toronto guys at Ford every day .. a little surprising in that he does nor live here year round .. I wish he wasn't but afraid to say he thinks he is back for this season .. no idear about Kerfoot

It is cause he is boring and boring doesnt adhere you to fans but to your coaches

I think most understand his limitations and would be fine with him as the 6/7th dman.
He makes too much for that role though.

End of the day he had more points then McCann by 1 but I would assume McCann would have more minutes and offensive zone starts and higher in the line up wingmates, which granted are not as deep as Toronto's.

Disagree with szndin. He either plays in top 4 at high kevel, or get him out. We have no idea what we have. Play him to see or out IMHO.
Holl is a 10 min guy at best...he has no strength to rely on, defense is ?, offense is ?, toughness is ?, shot blocking is?, he is a 6 or 7 for life.

What does he actually do? Tough..no, shotblock, no..score, no...create, no... play tough defence, no.

While his fancy stats are very strong, his actual numbers and per 60 rates put him in the top 30-45 ish over the past two years for dmen with min 2000 minutes.. there are about 85 dmen with this usage

He is solid enough for job expected.. he is just boring

McCann can score upwards of 20+ goals in Kerfoot's role last season I wouldn't rate assists from a side kick non-elite winger in our top 6 that highly no matter if its primary or secondary (unless obviously you see the offence does run through them). We need guys who can find ways to put puck in net. Bunting is better example of success as a side kick winger excluding disappear act in playoffs. There's lot of players in the league that can freeze up and be patient and then send puck to one of the best players on team to rack up assists.

Yep. He's reasonably physical and isn't the worst shot blocker either.

I get why he doesn't have much fanfare. I find he turns over the puck a bit much for a guy with a limited offensive ceiling, and turnovers tend to stand out. He's fine for what he brings, not a bad hockey player, but if we're looking to move bodies and shave cap, then I won't object to putting a shipping label on him or Kerfoot.

I wanted them both moved to create cap space, but it seems highly unlikely at this point.

Management and the coaching staff have likely determined that both players are worth keeping at their respective cap hits for the time being.

Holl is simply the fanbase whipping boy. Not that he can't be improved upon... but, he led the Leafs in Hits last year, second in blocks by 2, third on the team in Defensive Point Share, played PK decently well, 23 points, for $2 million bucks. What exactly do you expect for $2 mil?

Sure, he's the target to move, as we'd like Sandin to get into the lineup more, handedness aside.... That's the problem.. RD is a bit of a premium position, and we have two legitimate Right Handed guys, and Holl is one of them. Remove him, and we might be pushing someone to play on their offside, that they aren't particularly suited for... some guys can do it though.

The question on Kerfoot, is does moving him improve the team, and how do you replace what he brings, at a lower cap hit? There aren't many options out there at the moment.

Leafs are fine at PK with kampf marner engvall as top 3. Kubels legs fit in nicely with the PK coach system as the final 4 and Keefes word imply Kubel will be given a shot. Kerfoot also can't play C full time because he sucks at faceoffs and his shot is too below average to be anything more than a bandaid beside Tavares. His defensive play at even strength is also more bandaid style for line 3 if you compare him to an actual defensive player like Kampf.

The fear that exists in losing Kerfoots production should be lowered. There's not that much fear as far as cup winning is concern.

We should try something new with that 3.5 mil
