He has been benched by his last three coaches (Babcock, Blashill and Jalonen). He has gotten plenty of opportunities even in the top-lines and in PP as well and has been really underwhelming outside of AHL.

His tires being pumped so hard in the past and him being compared to Brett Hull and all that looney toons seem to mask the option, that perhaps Pulkkinen just simply isn't good enough in NHL? He wouldn't be the first or the last player to be really good in AHL and pretty much useless in NHL.

That's all probably true. But, he's still the best young player to hit the waiver wire this year. If you're going to claim anyone, this is the guy.

forgive my ignorance, but why did they have to waive both pulkkinen and frk? i thought they would only have to do one of them?

They have been passed in the organization. Frk I was hoping to hang onto more than Pulkkinen because I believe he can play on the fourth line too. But the Wings are loaded out on the Wings with more on the way.

I think the Pre-season that Svechnikov and Bertuzzi had made this the obvious choice. Plus Sproul led the team in shots from the back-end and he was likely the guy to be waived to keep a forward. But with Bertuzzi showing he is NHL ready, plus Mantha and AA being ready it made figuring this out a lot less important.

Also the team has shifted Z back out to the wing. Abdelkader is a top 6 winger as are Nyquist and Tatar. Where are all these guys going to play? They just are buried on the depth chart.

The only real issue is, it would have been really nice to get something for them. But Holland has said he tried and couldn't get it done. Whether people believe him or not is their call.

So he will claimed by?

The Leafs have Babcock as head coach and Finnish native Ari Vuori as head of European scouting, along with several other Wings cast-offs in management and coaching. The Leafs had discussions regarding Pulk in the Dion Phaneuf trade talks. The Leafs are #1 in waiver priority and have claimed arguably the top prospect made available each of the last 2 seasons in camp in Panik and Corrado. Connor Brown had an average camp and is on the 4th line RW to start the season. All they would need to do is send him down and he is waiver exempt to start the season. If they want him, they got him. You can connect the dots on Griffith from Boston as well coming from London where Mark Hunter has run the show for awhile. Hunter's opinion carries a lot of weight in this type of situation. He has lots of Knights alum throughout the organization and it wouldn't be surprising if they claimed him, either. It's likely one or the other. If the Leafs pass on both it speaks to the quality of youth they have in the system and management/coachings opinion of them.

Martin Frk apparently had 3 claims. I wonder how many Pulk and Griffith get. Or if teams spread out their claims and pick guys less likely to be claimed because they are more likely to be successful with their claim. Guys like McNeill, Lander and Parenteau being available could steal the extra claims with team's management assuming other team's higher in the order will claim specific people.

Canucks GM Jim Benning has taken chances on Sven Baertschi, Markus Granlund, and Emerson Etem in his two years as the manager of his team. He has a track record of giving young players an opportunity to succeed, and has placed an emphasis on having Willie Desjardins try to coach and reform these players' games so that they may thrive. Baertschi has transformed entirely as a player; Granlund looks to be heading that way as well; Etem still possesses potential.

Pulkkinen will be 25 years old in January, but he is not too far removed from having success in the AHL. I think that this player has some issues that need to be addressed, but the Canucks have been eager to refine these kinds of naturally-skilled players.

Vancouver is third on the priority list, behind only Toronto and Edmonton. With right-winger Anton Rodin, previously penciled in on the second line with Baertschi and Horvat, apparently out until January, the Canucks have a spot on that line for Pulkkinen.

There is a moderate chance that the Canucks will make a claim. If they do not like what they have in him by the time Rodin returns, they can waive him again.

I wish he gets claimed and gets a legitimate chance and I wish he scores 20+ goals this season. And I wouldn't mind him scoring a couple on the Wings. Or a ********.

Pulkkinen's two biggest flaws are his skating and ability to get open. Look at his goals from the AHL where he scored 34, a lot of them were off the rush and he would take a slapped just inside the blue line. He tried that last season in the NHL and they'd get blocked, poke checked, or he'd shoot it wide. His game isn't effective vs NHL caliber talent.

we need depth on the wing with the injury to MacArthur... please 11 other teams before us, give us a chance to pick Pulkk.... :naughty:

But Pulkkinen is a RWer, and the injury to MacArthur opened a hole on the left side.

I'm not sure playing Pulkkinen on his off wing is the key to unlocking his potential...

That article tells a lot.
Pulkkinen isn't NHL player he's KHL / SHL / NLA player sad but true.
Sorry for that there's no English version of that article.

If i had predict what happen next to Pulkkinen he plays AHL this season.
Next summer Red-Wings bought him out and Pulkkinen comes back to Europe.
here is Google translates best attempt, the formatting isn't on me...

"On Monday, a surprise when the Detroit Red Wings rolled Finnish attacker Teemu Pulkkinen on the transfer list, ie waivers.

it was not a surprise.

Pulkkinen has become known as the first in Finland and then in North America maalitykkinä tough, with a terrible shot.

It is her strength.

But even if, for example, the Red Wings were well aware of this expertise, with the result that Pulkkinen banging hard paint amounts AHL, he missed the buck on the rocks off course because of one reason.

Duel.

And actually the situation in more detail in the speed and the ability to win a space for themselves.

In particular, five against five -pelaaminen goes Pulkkinen Sella constantly fight for survival. He is the angle of the paper battles, and he does not get NHL goal to break into places.

She is ballast that needs to be carried around, so that he may predominance rings. And there too he has been able to be engaging effectively off.

In the spring World Cup were the cornerstone of this. Pulkkinen Sesta expected maalipyssyä Mikael Granlund and Mikko Koivu beside. He was transferred quickly from that chain nelosvitjaan and just as quickly the rail.

The head coach Kari Jalonen staggered "Pulkkinen still do the lion's share of important goals", although all the games followed the knew the truth. No they are not coming.

Pulkkinen was a burden.

He is hopelessly struggling in today's rapid duel in the league, which is well aware of all NHL clubs.

If not recognized, the scouttaaminen has been deficient.

Therefore, there should be no surprise, if he is not poimittaisi the transfer list.

If appeals to hard-power scores AHL, must take into account the realities. AHL's level is far from NHL level. AHL Pulkkinen Sella has more room to bring its special expertise across the NHL.

NHL, he will be trampled underfoot.

And the end of the day, in a match inability is not even the only weakness. Skating is still problematic, it does not help any in the fact that tasakentällisin should make something happen.

All this makes it difficult to significantly Pulkkinen NHL career. Not the Red Wings would never have risked this way, if the loss of it would have been too noticeable. Pulkkinen simply does not fit in the NHL, the crew, and her final games need not even so much superiority at all.

It is then interesting to see where that career will continue. he Chance To this year's AHL? he Matkaako quickly KHL reads? Or Europe?

If you would like further Pulkkinen NHL will continue together, should take place just really significant development.

And its realization can be quite loud reason to doubt."

I'm just guessing that the him/her distinction isn't too clear from Finnish to english? Ha
