Corsi is not only tracking shots on goal. And if you'll notice, the guy you quoted mentioned his Corsi Against, not his Corsi For.

Sorry I should clarify im responding to 2 pages of Corsi stats not one person's post.

But Corsi For (SOG for)
Corsi Against (SOG against)

Per 60 min or whatever.

Its the same deal.

He has a high Corsi FOR by shooting alot
He has a low Corsi AGAINST by being the most sheltered player on the team (all offensive zone starts).

I am not saying Pulkkinen is bad. But These numbers people keep quoting to say Smith is the best D man ever, and now pulkkinen is our best forward ever are massively misleading.

Weren't Frk and Pulkkinen supposed to be supremely skilled wingers with some upside?

I think the Canucks should throw in a claim on this guy. Rodin is hurt until January (reportedly). Virtanen should start the year in Utica and other than that we are really lacking down the wings for any sort of scoring. He most likely doesn't work out, but I think the Canucks are in a very good position to give him an extended audition until Rodin is back or Virtanen is ready for the NHL.

Corsi tracks shot attempts, not shots on goal. Why do you even comment on something if you have no clue what it even means?

Is there a point in ACTUAL stats where people are willing to throw advanced stats go out the window?

If
you are generating shots at a good pace
and/or
You are generating a good amount of goals/60

Does that really matter when the ACTUAL goals you scored was 6?
or 5? or 4? or 3? or 2? or 1?

I'd say yes. And that number is much higher than 6

Best from Pulkkinen.

Happened ...eeh.. once in every third month. Kind of... twice in a season.

I think biggest problem in Pulkkinen is his short reach. The area where the puck has to be passed is very small, because he has short hands. Also his shooting area is very small (for same reason), so greteast NHL-level shot blockers can neutralize him pretty easy. Exact opposite for a guy like Patrik Laine.

Also, for same reason (small player, short stick and short reach), his puck protection is pretty weak. He doesn't have the reach or the body to protect the puck and that leads to giveaways. When he doesn't have that reach to steal pucks and doesn't have elite speed to compensate that weakness, his forecheking is also very easy to play against. It looks like he is using his feet like mad and going fast, but it's just ineffective.

Corsi is another story, there's something good in there, but also very very flawed stats.

It's been demonstrated pretty well that if there's a large difference between a player's expected goals(corsi) and actual goals, it's going to normalize over time. That is, if Pulkkinen keeps his corsi similar, his goals for and goals against will become much better.

Of course, he already is at 60% goals for which is 43rd in all of NHL for forwards.

Have to also remind, that those stats are made before his shoulder surgery. He has never looked the same, somewhat decent player, since his injury.

Was he ever given a legitimate extended look in a top 9 role in the NHL? As in not just for a game or two, but for 10-15+ games?

He started at TOP9 at last season. Scored something like 4+2=6 points in first 10 games at 15-minute role. Then his ice-time dropped. I don't exactly remember for what reason.

Then after some roster sufflings, he was finally put together with Datsyuk, and Pulkkinen got injured at 2nd game with him, and never was put back.

forgive my ignorance, but why did they have to waive both pulkkinen and frk? i thought they would only have to do one of them?

First of all, there some injuries at defence and they are carrying 8 defencemen at season start. Also, some of the defencemen would have been waivered, if not Pulkkinen.

So, the plan changed, they are carrying only 13 forwards now.

Then, this happened, other prospects won the competition for spots. Had to waive one more forward.

Also, another reason why they are now carrying more defencemen, could be because of the the expansion draft. Carry 8 D now, and if Las Vegas takes one at next summer, you are still set with 7 guys.

100x yes.

I don't see how any team couldn't not take a chance on him. Very impressive results in the AHL. And even in the NHL, he's able to get shots off at a very good rate. And his scoring is decent for his low minutes.

He has one weapon that is ++ NHL calibre. At the very least, a RHS like that can add a lot of value to a team like the Canucks in the PP.

Pulkkinen never got a fair shot in Detroit IMO. I hope he gets picked up by another team and they actually put him in a position to succeed and the Red Wings look like morons. I don't think he will be a star or anything, but I think he can easily be a 20 goal player/solid contributor in the NHL.

He has been benched by his last three coaches (Babcock, Blashill and Jalonen). He has gotten plenty of opportunities even in the top-lines and in PP as well and has been really underwhelming outside of AHL.

His tires being pumped so hard in the past and him being compared to Brett Hull and all that looney toons seem to mask the option, that perhaps Pulkkinen just simply isn't good enough in NHL? He wouldn't be the first or the last player to be really good in AHL and pretty much useless in NHL.

No way will Pulkkinen make it to Pittsburgh, Could see Ron Francis and Carolina get him and Frk both.

I'm surprised if there's some NHL GM who's interested of Pulkkinen
Pulkkinen is average player with explosive shot but that's all.

But in KHL has teams ( example SKA St Petersburgh, TsSKA Moscow) which are ready to pay big moneys for getting Pulkkinen.
I don't see Pulkkinen as NHL player at the moment.
