Kumpulainen had an OK first period. Sprung open a teammate for a breakaway which led to a penalty shot that was missed. Seemed to be in wrong position a couple times in zones - looked like he was expecting support along the walls or to get the puck along the wall. Probably still getting used to teammates/ice, etc.

Heidt has two goals so far tonight. Could've had the hat trick couple of minutes ago if linemate passed it back...

Just made a fantastic defensive play, likely stopping a scoring chance and then follows it up with a blocked shot at the point.
Heidt has 8 points in 2 games. I don't think he'll keep it up (LOL), but damn. He's motivated.

I mean, the guy was already top 5 in scoring last season. :thumbu: Definitely realistic that he'll be in the running of as the top WHL scorer post draft year, plus his teammate Ziemmer hasn't even returned to play yet.

Kalem Parker traded to Moose Jaw - he was on a terrible team (but got a ton of minutes), so will see how playing on a better team goes for his development.

Kumpulainen with two assists in the first. Also had a screen on the first one and thought the second one went off him at first.

And another assist - this one primary.

Thought he got a fourth on a double tip but looks like they didn't give it to him.

That was a beautiful assist by Kumpalainen

from what I’ve seen on Twitter, it seems like Yurov is having a good week as well

Reilly Heidt is now at 11 points in 5 games. Slowing down a little, but it's sort of hard to keep up 4 points per game pace.

Crazily, his stat line ranks him 5th on his team in scoring.

And the leading scorer on that team is a 17 year old with 12 goals in 7 games.

WTH is going on with Khusnutdinov? He's got to get away from that team, ASAP. You can't tell me that a guy who scored over 40 pts. last year with a good defensive game all of a sudden forgot how to play.
Quoting this in the prospect thread instead of the Kumpulainen thread.

He’s playing under 10 minutes a game recently. Last year he had many games over 20 minutes time on ice…

Scratched for the most recent games. I wonder if he'll be sent down to VHL.

He's been scratched in 8/14 games, and had less than 10 minutes of TOI in 4/6 games he did play in.

I can't imagine there's anything a player could do to warrant such a drastic change in usage.

sleeping with the coach'es daughter might do it...

Found a rumor on a Russian sports website that Khusnutdinov might go to Sochi in exchange for Rendulić... I can only hope it comes to pass...

Isn't Michkov on Sochi?
I must say that I find it bizarre that they can't find room for Marat on their roster.

Khusnutdinov-Michkov first line in Sochi for the rest of the season? Sounds good to me.

There was nothing wrong with Khusnutdinov’s play in the first game when he got plastered to the bench late, I assumed it was just early vet preference as they were pumping the puck to some pretty mediocre players. Haven’t watched since but I am sure change would be welcome. He needs time and deserves it, what foolishness to squander ability.
