Keep in mind the old format with 3 divisions would have the division winner rule still, meaning the highest the Leafs could finish would be 4th. Although maybe if they go back to 1-8 format they just keep the two divisions only instead of 3 and then have the runner-ups duke it out for spots 3-8. Or abolish division winners completely and just have it be a straight up ranking of best records 1-8.

I do miss the 1-8 format, but that just could be nostalgia, I remember in the early 90s reading in our local paper for the standings, looking to see where the leafs were, back than I only had 2 channels on tv because Cable was not around in the boonies lol, but my Dad got one of those big Satellite Dishes, everything changed than haha

For a team with never-ending cap issues, having a $3.5M player on the 4th line doesn't make much sense. Dubas could easily save $2.5M by moving Kerfoot and replacing him with a depth player, then use that money to patch up wherever else he sees a need before the deadline.
