On a side note: I loved the hitting. I think we are just struggling to find chemistry, Noel has to start getting the right guys together. But I loved the intensity, some of the guys played like playoffs were on the line in pre season. Lots of hitting and rough stuff. Thats the way we have to play this season, obviously just better in everything else

I disagree. That was pond-hockey intensity IMHO. We need urgency to score and make plays; not screw around with weak passes, feeble jabs at the puck, then think that throwing some hits is going to make up for bad decision making and sloppy play.

There was no urgency to play this game to win. Noel was right to bench Wheeler, Jokinen and Seto out there for most of the third because the effort wasn't there.

Oh I agree for the most part. Passes, decision making, etc. was horrible. Almost everything was, I should have worded it better. Buff, Kane, Peluso, Cormier, Halischuk, and maybe a couple more guys were playing really physical, doesn't nec. mean good, but I like that, if they put it together with other things thats huge. We never hit like that last year. Intensity as a team was bad, like i said earlier it looked like hungry rookies playing like it was regular season, against calm vets playing like it was pick up hockey.

Notice a pattern:

Jokinen stunk last year in pre-season, Jokinen stunk last year during the regular season, Jokinen has stunk so far this pre-season....

Put a fork in him, he's done..

He's so bad can't at this rate we couldn't even give him away at the trade deadline even if we tried

I'll do a summary of what I have seen, for what it is worth, of the 'fringe' roster players. Additional analysis of some others too.

Cormier: Very strong camp so far. Total elevation to his game last year. When I saw him last year he looked weak or unconfident. Thinking this is his transition year. Finally.

Telegin: Major rockets in his skates. Needs his mind and stick to keep up. AHL will do him well.

Shief: Sold he is ready for first year of NHL. Nice change over the years with him. Won't put up major points, but this is his year for confidence.

Tangradi: I know he is isn't a prospect, but I see bigger things for him this year. Break out year.

Trouba: Hype is for real. He isnt NHL ready....yet. needs confidence on the big ticket and another few pre-season games and a year in NCAA will do it.

Morrissey: Looks ready, surprisingly, today. Given our logjam at D, I can honestly say that I figure without that, he is NHL ready today. He may not be be better than Trouba over, because I don't think he is, just he can play today and thats it.

Pardy: love the guy. But get ready for waivers.

Peluso: real deal meal. All I have to say is I love Thor but the role has been taken by a legit hybrid heavyweight

Haiischuck & Frokil: wicked additions, total upgrades.

Seto: crap game last night. However, he will do wonders this year with Kane. Mark it.

Wright: Not seing the same Wright as last year. Maybe trying to do too much. Needs to simplify things.

LLW: settle down and quite running the horse at top speed like last year and LET it happen this year. It will, just let it happen.

Good break down Bunk.
I pretty much agree across the board.
Someone who stood out tonight was Cormier. I thought he was one of the better Jets out there. I see him being Slater's replacement, and doing an excellent job.

Can't go back to NCAA after you've turned pro. It's AHL or NHL for Trouba.

Yup. That game needed more Kanes and...Froliks. Frolik was a hungry animal in the games I've seen him in so far. Focused intensity. It's like most of the guys were just freewheeling and getting a workout in like it was a practice scrum.

Sip... while I do not always see eye to eye with you, I am going to have to agree with you on this one.

The Joke better pull his head out of his arse if he hopes to even sniff a puck...god he was horridbad. 10 minutes of ice time was 9 minutes too much IMHO.

Was at the game and really thought Peluso struggled. He turned the puck over every time he got it on his own half wall just throwing it away blindly. I don't know if he had a bad game or what but the team had four giveaways after two periods, all from him. That has to change, this is the NHL, I really hope Tangradi and Wright round out the foruth line.

I like Noel, but if I see this team coming out flat against obviously weaker line-ups too many more times I'm going to start looking directly his way as a problem. As I said earlier before the game I was looking for a sign that the team was different this year. I didn't see it last night.

Your Mind
It is the preseason
Every team has motivation issues when you these many games.

I will not pass judgement in this until the regular season starts

He's not as tight on guys against the rush like Enstrom is, and not quite as quick either. Guys could get a half step or so on him(but nothing else). But that'll likely come in time since he's so young. So not something to worry about. Hope he looks to refine his defensive game this season and comes to camp next year ready to play on that 3rd pairing. Because he WILL be ready in a year easily.[/QUOTE]

If we are even starting to compare Morrissey to Enstrom it is saying quite a lot. Toby will be 29 years old this season and is an established veteran. Enstrom wasn't near the player he is now either when he was 18. In the season after he was drafted Enstrom got 5 points playing for Modo in the SEL. Parts of Morrissey's game appears to be at an unimaginable level for a raw rookie of 18.

Why do people keep saying this?

Can someone actually give a legit reason as to why he is a AHL coach?

Oh wait... It's because they can't.

because quite often he gets out coached by the opposition. Most teams have a system or identity, we don't and a big part of that has to do with coaching imo.

yeah you're right. The Jets definitely have an identity. Inconsistency with motivation issues.

Not a tonne of positives from last nights game.

Agree with most everyone's thoughts on Morrissey. To me it looked like he was playing with ice in his veins. You just don't expect to see an 18 year old kid, and a defenseman yet, to play with that kind of composure. Plus, his skating, vision, and passing look very, very good already. I think the talk about him being close to ready for the NHL is crazy premature though. He still needs to physically mature to handle the day to day nature of being a defenseman in the NHL. Plus, his defensive game needs to improve a bit too. Another season in junior at least. It's to bad he couldn't go to the AHL after next season as well, that would be good for him too.

Without going into a review for other players, overall it looked to me like the Wild were playing regular season mode, or something close to it. They were playing to win, were more physical on the puck in regards to winning the puck battles, and their D were giving it to our forwards all night after the whistle with extra pushes, cross checks, etc. For the first two periods, not a single Jet forward did anything about it.

The Jets seemed to be content to play this game closer to shinny hockey than a tuneup for the regular season. They didn't respond with any intensity until the 3rd, and it was too late at that point. Let's hope that we don't need one of our better players getting a forearm to the head every game to get this team involved.

Still exhibition so it's not the end of the world, but I hope we see the intensity build as we get closer to the regular season. The Jets can't afford to take October off and have a terrible start if they want to make the playoffs.
