Why is everyone surprised NHLers were trying to settle a year old story between two teams that see each other...once every year ?

Because it doesn’t make a ton of sense. The Sharks had most of the “Beard Incident” game to go after Kadri and settle any slight then and there. It wasn’t late in the year or the season for either team. Why they waited until now to go after Kadri is puzzling, not to mention it was detrimental to their own cause last night

Seems like it's not just San Jose's coach and players heads that Kadri has made their way into.

Oh well, just 1 more Pacific team on the list. That's at least half of them now with all the Canadian ones as well. You guys must be so disappointed you don;'t get to play the Leafs more often. Don't worry we are as well.

Maybe Kadri was telling Thornton to shave his beard. Thornton listened, he shaved. You should be thanking Kadri for getting rid of Joe’s liability in future fights.
Can’t tell if sarcasm or just childish....
I shouldn’t get into this but screw it. Kadri going to grab Thornton’s jersey collar in the heat of the moment, like all players do in a fight, and accidently getting a piece of his hair isn’t the same as Burrows making the conscious decision to bite Bergeron’s finger when the scrum/fight is pretty much over and the two are separated by a linesman. It just isn’t.
wow the denial is so strong....

You do realize this “accident” you speak of resulted in Kadri literally holding Thornton’s beard.....with a full grasp, while talking to him....ya that’s an “accident.”

It’s the same concept, that was my point. Your the one attempting to steer it the opposite way with this “accident” talk. It wasn’t an accident, Kadri was just being Kadri.
Kadri can't do anything else? You really want to pick this hill right here? It's not a very good one.
In that moment? Yes, he CLEARLY couldn’t do anything better than grab Thornton’s beard. Is Kadri a tough guy? No. Can he fight? Not really.....that’s why he does what he does.

You know even Thornton didn't think Kadri did it on purpose right?

Do you follow old school hockey? Whether you are a Leafs fan or not, I know you moderate the Leafs board. You have to agree some things in hockey do not change. Kadri grabbed Thornton's beard last year in a fight. You simply do not do this in hockey. It is equivalent to pulling hair in a fight. As a hockey player Kadri knows the code of the game. I am old school when it comes to this. Much better to drop them than have a Kadri hurt with something more severe. If he dropped them in the first min, the Sharks would have left him a lone the rest of the game.

Do you recall how Cooke fought Thornton? It was settled right there and then. He did the honorable thing. And that was far worse than beard pulling.

Honorable thing would be for Thornton to challenge kadri at the start of the game. Instead he hid behind is teammates.

That game was weird. The beard thing happened in a fight. If Thornton was pissed still then he could have done something about it himself. He's not a helpless guy that needs his team to pick fights for him. Or at least he shouldn't be. Not like he has that beard anymore so not risking a repeat. If he wasn't still upset...why get distracted about Kadri instead of the team he's playing for?

Oh well I suppose anger is in general purely irrational. There are teams that should have rational anger towards Kadri. He's hardly harmless or never gotten himself into trouble. But this situation was odd.

This is true.

Joe Thornton and beard are OK after tussle with Kadri

After the game, Kadri insisted that the facial haircut was accidental, telling reporters, “I thought I was a hockey player, not a barber.”

Thornton told the Mercury News that he’s taking Kadri at his word.

“It’s just so big,” the Sharks alternate captain said of his beard. “He was probably trying to grab for the collar of my shirt and, obviously, there’s a lot there.

“I needed a little trim, so it saved me some money. I needed to thin it out a little bit.”

Seems the only people still mad were Thornton’s teammates and DeBoer.

I imagine it was because:

a) Kadri pulled Thornton's beard last year
b) Kadri has a rep for being a bit of a weasel
c) The Sharks continue to make the same defense mistakes over and over and it's been frustrating as hell to watch (for announcers and fans alike).

Ding, ding, ding.

You answered your own question...

Bravo.

Why would he have to fight because he fought last season? lol

Thornton wanted to go and has a huge size advantage, and somehow he's a victim in this haha. I would get it it if Kadri hunted down Karlsson and jumped him...

If Thornton was so upset, he should have dropped them himself.

Jumbo Joe instigated yes, but Kadri got the better of him in a physical altercation that was shown on highlights for months. Getting the better of someone in a fight/physical altercation/sketchy hit, is worthy of revenge. No matter who your bias is with. One of the great unwritten rules.

Wouldn't that result in an endless loop of violence? So if Thornton got the better of Kadri in the next fight, then is reasonable for Kadri to search him out next game?

I like every player that refuses to fight even when goaded. It gives such an advantage to your team.

It was only because he grabbed the beard and it became famous in hockey circles/media. If it was just a fight..then nothing usually grows from that.

I still think it has something to do with possible off ice comments re Tavares not going to S.J
