Why is Kerfoot on this team?

I don't think there's any comparison between Kerfoot and Kadri. Kerfoot is clearly the better player, especially when factoring in the need for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Younger, kills penalties, producing same amount of points despite not being on the P.P., better defensively, isn't selfish... and very importantly, $1 million cheaper.

Kerfoot has two points in five games (70:55 TOI) and is a plus '0'. Over 2 minutes per game killing penalties. 3:38 hits/60 $3.5 million cap hit. 26 years old.
Kadri has two points in four games (70:13 TOI) and is a -4. Over 5 minutes per game on the power-play. 5.12 hits/60 $4.5 million cap hit. 30 years old.

Hes a placeholder we are hoping can up his value. I Expect him to be dealt if we struggle in the playoffs this year

We have 3 guys who will replace him in a year or 2

Hallinder, Abramov, Hirvonen

The fixation on his salary is a bid odd since he seems pretty close to what you'd expect top 9 guy to earn post elc.

If he paces for 35-40ish points, mostly scored at 5v5, while also playing centre for a lot of games AND the PK.

I think its fair to critique his decision making or even prefer a different style of player for 3c. But fact remains the team will get its 3ish million of value from him by seasons end

The comments about Kerfoot and Holl this off season really cemented to me that the average IQ of this fan base is very, veerryy low. Love to see Kadri getting ripped by Avs fans for all the reasons I wanted to see him gone in the first place. Still think Kerfoot for Kadri alone won the trade.

Says the guy who would rather have Kerfoot than Kadri

And yet this sounds like sheer stupidity. Too funny.

The offense hasn't really been there yet (though just now he did the yeomans work on Vesey's goal), he's been playing hard.

He hasn't been the problem.

His effective PKing does offset the offense that hasn’t come yet.

though with a smaller shifty player you’re expecting offense, so maybe he’s just the type that you’re always wanting more but overlook what he does well

Because we had the chance to draft him?

Ceasar is just real mad about the Kadri trade and will never let it go. So Kerfoot is going to be a target for however long he’s a Leaf.
Although you are correct that I believe the Kadri trade was a bad one, I would definitely like the player we got back, inferior as he might be, if he actually did something notable once in a while.

Kerfoot offers nothing that an Adam Brooks at league min cannot.
Kadri is 10x the player he is. Your post is straight out of loonyville, get some rest.

Extremely optimistic to think that any of those three can step into Kerfoot's role in 2 years.

Hallinder isn't even projected to be a NHL centre.

The best is they come from the same people who say they want the leafs to play better defensively.

A excellent game by Kerfoot tonight. He’s going to start scoring regularly in a couple weeks with the line getting some chemistry. Defensively they click so thats fine

He's really settling in here. I also think Engvall will take ocer the 4C spot sooner rather than later. That's 4 really good defensively responsible centers that can skate like.the wind with the exception of JT.

I don't think I've ever seen JT on a breakaway, he's just too slow ... LOL

Imagine if JT was faster, I think he'd be as good as McDavid if he had that explosive speed.

Kerfoot is what you would call a 5 tool player.
He is great defensively.
Incredibly fast.
PKs.
PPs.

How many 2 on 1s have we seen Kerfoot generate with his speed? Not only that but he has very soft hands. The only knock on him, is his lack of physicality.

Why does he need to do something notable? If he is quietly effective, then who cares?

If you look at the Edmonton game, he won 62% of his draws, he killed penalties, he got a great assist, and he did not do anything stupid in 15 minutes of ice time. If he can do that consistently, then we have pretty much everything you want out of a 3C.

He's a very good defensive player with solid 3rd line offense as well. His speed and positioning allows him to both cover defense well while also quickly transitioning the puck out of danger and to the attack.

Since the trade, at Even Strength:

Kadri: 13:26, 37pt pace, 46.2xgf% (-7.0rel)
Kerfoot: 13:09, 32pt pace, 51.7xgf% (+0.1rel)

Comments about Kadri from last night's Avalanche Board game thread:

"Kadri needs to get his head out of his *** soon."

"Kadri pisses me off and tbh hasnt been a good Avalanche player for most of his tenure here. He showed up for the playoffs last year so I'll give him credit for that, but I thought he was kinda shit during the season last year too."

"Kadri is rubbish"

"Out of these four (JTC, Saad, Donskoi, Kadri), two should come out and be replaced with LOC and Kaut. "

"Kadri is a bonehead,"

"Kadri + Saad look like 3rd liners"

"Kadri and Saad both have been donkey piss every single game."

"Kadri’s drop-off is really hurting this team. Even at his best he’s not really a shift-to-shift impact guy, but when his scoring touch is gone, he’s a liability."

"Boy do I wish Kadri was on any other team."

"Still a second round exit team with a bunch of losers like Kadri leading the way."

"He's one of the biggest idiotson this team for sure."

"Kadri really needs to wake up. Totally uninterested play. As a 2nd line centreman, it's unacceptable."

"He's got to go."

"I think it’s also time to take Kadri off that 1st PP unit. It seemed like he lost alot of faceoffs in the PP and other than that I find him quite useless there."

"What Kadri needs to do is leave Columbus off his no trade list so we can package him for Dubois."

"Kadri does not setup his teammates for success, he only really uses them when he has completely run himself out of options"

"He's one of the most selfish player in the NHL. Not sure all his linemates are OK with that."

"Hes completely useless as a bumper. I said it before but all he does is confuse the hell out of Nathan there. Nathan does that fake shot pass to Kadri and it almost always ends up in Kadri's feet. It worked a few times in the playoffs against the Yotes but all season it never worked. "

"Saad hardly touches the puck and Kadri just wants to fire off inaccurate shots."

"Kadri has zero ability to drive a line. He's as bad as Donskoi at winning puck battles, has below average playmaking skills (kerfoot is actually much better than him in that aspect) and is either lazy or has poor awareness defensively all while taking stupid Ian Cole-esque penalties. The only things he has going for him as a player is that he can shoot and stickhandle but even that is not there most nights. Honestly I'd rather have Jeff Carter playing 2c out there than Kadri, at least he wouldn't kill so many plays."

"I’m worried about our centers outside Mack. Is Kadri-Compher-Bellemare good enough to win the cup?"

"The second line is only going to work with a high level transition puck carrier on the wing. Kadri/Saad just don't skate well enough for Bednar's transition game."

Quite simply for me the POST OF 2021 so far...the year is young but BRAVO
