yea, it was my reply which was dumb....

In the next thread we will probably find out how many goals AM will score if he played 60 minutes per game.
Adjusting a player's scoring pace to compensate for injury is pretty standard. If I'd known there were some more casual fans on this hockey forum I would have specified though

When was that?

Leafs are good but not elite in any way, shape or form.

they've been in and out of top 3 in the league standings through the first half of the season, which was by far the tougher half. with tonnes of games against the bottom feeders in their division like the sabres, senators, wings and Panthers, and tonnes of home games, they stand a good shot at finishing well over 100 points with all those easy games.

it may make lots of posters salty but they're a top team.

I would not trade Matthews for a single player on that list going forward, including McDavid. Matthews is the total package, nay not get as many 2nd assists on the PP, but he is the best 5 on 5 player on that list and the only one that plays with 75% scrubs on the 2nd Pp unit. Lowest ice time as well.

oh? I'm not sure whonyoure referring to. is there someone point per game with 17 goals im missing?

A: 109 games, 117 points... 32 points in 29 games in 17-18

B: 112 games, 100 points... 31 points in 30 games in 17-18

Who is better, A or B? Thought so.

Pace wasn't a good enough argument for Crosby or Laine last year, it's not good enough for any player ever. Play the games, score the points, wonder "what if" for the rest of their career.
It's a fine argument when the other person says his level of play has actually regressed when the opposite is true

give me goal totals, two way game, possessi9n metrics, ice time, position, and a whole lot more, and I'll let you know.

So, back to Oompa Loompas rule #1: “In Toronto, goals >>> goals AND assists”. Hence for example Matthews 69 points season in 16-17 >>> McDavid’s 100 points. Great logic!
And by the way, even for pure goals, Marchand has 54, while Matthews 57 (while having played 3 more games...), it’s not even a major difference. 17 points is a little bit bigger than 3 goals...

Possession stats? Why not.

16-17 & 17-18...
Corsi: Marchand 60.7 & 56.8...Matthews 52.2 & 51.4
Corsi Rel: Marchand 8.5 & 5.5 ... Matthews 2.3 & 1.5
Fenwick: Marchand 60.8 & 54.9... Matthews 51.7 & 50.4
FF Rel: Marchand 7.8 & 2.5... Matthews 2.6 & 1.5
PDO: Marchand 98.2 & 105... Matthews 99.9 & 106.1
Ozs: Marchand 54.8 & 56.7... Matthews 63.0 & 48.4

And don’t go there about two way game... it’s a known fact that Marchand is a monster in that (last year he was 12th in Selke voting. Matthews 38th)... He is 47th ALL TIME in short handed goals, by the way.

Marchand is better than Matthews. All numbers put together confirm it.

Let's grant OP as true, that Matthews is basically a fringe top 20 player.

Is there any other Leafs fan that would be completely fine with this considering it's just his 2nd year that he has missed nearly 25% of?

One thing I will say is that clearly his 2nd injury actually did him some good in giving him some much needed rest, he has looked like a f***ing beast again since he has comeback

The old “I can’t recognize superior performance because it hurts my feelings, so I will say muh linemates and look away” defense...

umm I am recognizing superior performance. Patrice Bergeron is the best defensive centre in the league and should have the last 3 or 4 selke trophies.

Currently on a 98 points pace. That might be elite for you guys, since the three best seasons in your whole history are 100, 100 and 103 points. For teams used to other kind of performance, 98 points = just barely in the playoffs...

When folks get mad at the notion that “everyone talks about the Leafs”, it’s always fun to look at threads like this started by fans from other teams. Just can’t help themselves.

As for OPs question, you’ve either got to have some serious homer glasses on or have your head buried under three feet of sand if you can’t understand why the media and professional hockey commentators are drooling over Matthew’s skill.

I don't really care about any of these stupid arguments to be honest.

This thread will be bumped and come back to bite many people in the ass who question how good this kid is and will be.

why the hell are we even arguing? I've been a fan of the Bruins since the bam bam cam days (leafs fan first), and we are the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the conference.

And Marchand is one of the best defensive wingers in the league AND he puts up more points and has a better PPG than Matthews.

I also note that you asked for possession stats, but decided to ignore them when I posted them, as they don’t fit your agenda. :)
