Why doesn't NHL allow custom/signature skates like NBA does?

and by personalities you of course mean how these players manage to make a joke of their team and uniforms?

but then again, NBA teams have 7 or 8 different uniforms, impossible to figure out who is playing who anyway.

But i think the answer to your question is:
The NHL is not a freak clown show like the NBA................. YET!

Yea, the NBA doesn't even call their jerseys home and away anymore. Clown show.

If the big players start it, younger fans / players will pick up on it and copy.

I don’t think NBA players asked a focus group, they just started doing it.

I can find the article later, there was an Athletic article about this company who was actually making customize/stylish skates that was growing. As most NHL players would he scared to try that if they could, I think it would start slowly with a few stars, then a few more would copy. It would be the youngest stars now or maybe the next wave

Jordan did it back when it was against the rules, and Nike famously paid his $5000 fine every game. It was 100% a marketing ploy to sell Nike shoes to the masses, from the beginning.

yesm

yes, the guys are based out of buffalo area and the sabers and coyotes each used them during warmups for games last year. the league looks like they are softening on the use

These are a cool idea, and I could easily see the league allowing teams to use something like this as part of their official uniform. Put the team logo and number on the heel of the skate, or something like that.

But, I don't see the league allowing players to make individual choices about what their skates look like anytime soon. There just isn't enough money to be made in that market.

How about ads on the skates, you think the NHL would be cool with that?

😁😅.........................🤔.................😟🙁☹️😫

Anyone rocking white skates these days? I think custom skates would be awesome. Hockey could have its version of Air Jordans.

It's because the culture and markets are different for each league.
The NBA targets urban and youth culture.
The NHL targets yahoos from, like, Moose Jaw.

If money was to be made from custom/signature skates, NHLers would be all over it.

Ah yes only yahoos from Saskatchewan love hockey the way it is.

So sick of the crying about “old boys clubs” and “boring personalities”…biggest crybaby fanbase of the major sports it’s unreal. The league makes more money every single year in spite of all those shortcomings, how odd. Hockey is a team sport and that’s how the culture of the game is built, not overpaid divas taking “load management” games 20 times a year while doing everything they can to increase their personal brand.

Penny Hardaway did something similar with his Nike Foamposites too. There was "too much blue" on them, so he went into the locker room and colored every other vertical depression in the shoe with a black sharpie to get enough black on the sneaker. This caught on so well that NIKE actually released a model called the Sharpie Foamposite

Because the NHL is a subdued team sport filled with mainly humble, boring dudes. And the NBA is a burlesque of endless grotesqueries all of whom sublimate the sport to the unrepentant id of the individual.

Since when did having neon colors that don't match with shit show a personality? The MLB and NBA can frig right off with that, it looks stupid.

The word uniform means something. The NHL is already bastardizing theirs with ads, no need to make them more like the NBA with stupid shoes. I don't need to see players advertising causes I don't care about either. If they want to have personalized gear, be a goalie and put it on your mask.
