News Article: Why did Nathan Horton leave the Bruins, really?

Columbus might be interested in Horton but I doubt Horton is interested in Columbus. No doubt in my mind he will be going somewhere where it is a lot warmer in the winter. He was a great player for Boston in the playoffs, will never forget that.

OK, so warmer...how many warm weather teams are competitive year in and year out? Columbus or not, the point is the same.

Based on comments about what he's looking for, I don't think those markets are it.

But yes, I'm aware they've had success.

Ya I agree based on his comments a team like Phoenix(Now Arizona) would seem to fit him. Very warm, no pressure, and has had decent success recently

I just don't get how someone can be driven enough to excel at the professional level, get there, and then say they prefer to play in a situation like Columbus.

It's not mine to understand, which is fine, but it still perplexes me.

Super confusing. I suppose I get preferring to play in a market where you can walk to the store to buy milk without getting hassled. But, doesn't speak much to his competitive nature does it?

I don't get it either.

I had heard Chiarelli say he was making one last attempt to try to get Horton to stay, I am assuming he must have already done this but his mind is made up.

Columbus, though???

The team he will probably signs with is not competitive year after year. I am with you Kate, I dont understand how a guy who excels come playoff time can so quickly want out of the great situation he had in Boston. Has to be family reasons.

Looks like Columbus is interested...

That would be insane if he left Boston for Columbus- if that team made a Stanley Cup an infomercial on how to hang drapes would beat the Cup ratings. Dallas Coyotes Anaheim even Carolina or Nash but Columbus

RT @Aportzline: Nathan Horton's agent, Paul Krepelka, confirms Horton was in Columbus today/tonight.

I follow several of the Blue Jackets on twitter, and disparaging them or their fans is unfair. The fans responded to their playoff push last season, and they have some good young talent.

I hope he has sense enough to go west. I don't want to see him get Kesseled by Bruins fans and his x teammates that many times a year. And we can't even say "Thank You Horton" as a negative chant because we got nothing in return (saying it because he was a cup winner here would be a nice show of support the first time he takes the ice, which would be OK, but not something you repeat or chant to get under his skin).

It is going to be bad enough if Thomas comes back to the garden in a different sweater.

I haven't read all the thread, so i apologize if this possibility has been discussed.

When Randy Carlyle left the Manitoba Moose to work as an asst. coach in Washington, his time with the Caps was cut short due to family concerns regarding the sniper who was causing mayhem & murder on the freeways in and around DC.

Carlyle quit his job after one season and returned to Winnipeg.

Has the Boston marathon bombing had a similar impact on the Horton household?

I'm not interested in fair- this is a joke. I'm starting to think these concussions do cause long term damage.

The silver lining in all this is Horton does not have to retire and go back and get his Masters to become a school teacher so he can have summers off.

Columbus is a team on the rise. He'd be able to play there with minimal stress if that bothers him

Maybe hes just pissed because nothing got done all season? Maybe the bruins offered short term and short money?

He will get 6 for 36 mil there. It Sucks but nothing we can do.

Maybe now that he has his cup he doesn't care. He can still make big $$$ and not have to work as hard as Boston wanted him to.

He can go back to Sunrise and be " the man" with less pressure and his wife can keep her year long tan.

Who knows?

His wife's a model or whatever she is, she's used to being pampered and living in nice weather. It's just a shame it probably got in the way of a hockey decision.

Some players like the pressure and spotlight, others prefer anonymity. Can't blame him. He performed well when the going got tough, which makes this decision somewhat unexpected.

I would've liked to see him back. He had a good situation here. 1st line minutes, a center who gets him the puck, and a team that's in contention basically every year. Oh well, at least we won't have to face him in the post-season.

You know what? Nobody knows anything about what's going on in Horton's life. To quote Maddy Prior, "who knows what's in a man's heart?" I'm not going to judge anyone from where I stand, which is a long, long way away.

And as for Columbus, hell, the Bruins had plenty of empty seats when they were struggling. Give the fans a winner and they'll respond. The Jackets players I'm acquainted with (online, of course) had nothing but praise for their support and all seem excited about their future. They've got a real GM and president now, some good young players, and things look promising.

Bingo....good things are ahead for CBus.... They were a damn fun watch last year...

The disparaging remarks about Nathan's wife is sickening. Contrary to some people's beliefs, she is an absolute sweetheart. She used to model and when they got married, she stopped. She's not a trophy wife that's for sure. She's also related to Jacques Plante so she comes from a hockey family as well.

I think cat400 may be onto something in terms of possibly being rattled after the bombing. They have 2 little boys and I completely understand why he may have changed his mind.

It sucks that he was open to coming back and then suddenly changed his mind but there is nothing we can do about it other than to remember the good times and move on just like him.

Maybe he's just tired of the endless negative attention in Boston by both media and fans and wants to go to a quieter place where he can live and play hockey without all the added stress?

Some people don't like drama.

I have no problem with him leaving I would not give him 5 at 25ish. God Bless him I just can't see why anyone would do this. If its Florida I Agee that's what I would do- Columbus I think it's money if he gets 35+ and this life style stuff is bull sheet
