News Article: Why did Nathan Horton leave the Bruins, really?

Because we're not allowed to speculate that there's no concerns for Horton and that he just wants money but we are allowed to create fictional circumstances which explain why he wants to go somewhere with nice weather.

It is all just speculation. I dont get why we are bringing hypothetical disabled children to the table though...

Because it's over the top dramatic, and the drama queens love that ****.

It makes as much sense as speculating that his wife wants a year-round tan, doesn't it?

Money of course is always a top factor when it comes to FA decisions. The other top priority is family (and the two often go hand in hand). As I've reiterated over (and over), this is nothing but SPECULATION. Sorry if that makes people have the vapors.

Except you constantly call out others for such speculation.

Almost equally as dumb, except his wife does have a tan, so a little bit less.

The bar, she's set very low apparently.

If you care to scroll back, you'll see that I listed several other possibilities, including that he's simply a mercenary. The only "calling out" I'm doing is saying nobody knows for sure. I certainly don't.

You constantly called anyone out who suggested moving horton the last 2 years by reminding us he has a ntc and would never leave.

Now we are making up hypothetical disabled children.

To me it sounds like denial...he wants to leave, simple as that. Enjoyed him being here, will enjoy his replacement unless its Pouliot.

I know some folks that are close to the Horton camp

Nathan Horton, first and foremost, is a devout father and husband. Secondly he is a hockey player. Nate doesn't have to scrap and claw to break a roster or put up points. He does it naturally with top 3 draft pick pedigree and a healthy love of the game. 2011 was his swan song, he won a cup, and played in 2 SC Finals. This is speculation, but that might be good enough for him. At this point it's living somewhere nice where is family is comfortable and geting the most money he can for his families future.... and that's ok.

Not everyone wants to spend their career in the meat grinder of Boston, ruining there bodies ragged annually in the playoffs, all while getting bashed by the media.

Not everyone is Patrice Bergeron, or Zdeno Chara, Mark Recchi, or Greg Campbell.

Some dudes just want to win a cup in their career, get the fattest paycheck, Live in a nice climate, have some extended summers, and ultimately do it while having some fun playing puck.

Nathan Horton, when it's all over, will have lived everyone of those scenarios in his career.. good for him.

One of the best posts I've read on here in a few years. This is exactly why I was remotely disappointed with him wanting to leave.

He knows he can't get max money here. The weather is cold, the team style is tough. Go get paid, live in the sun, and raise your family. The end.

If he signs with Columbus... I don't even know.

Nothing like the sun and fun in Ohio

I am a big Horton fan, but I have no problem with him leaving at all. The money probably would have been over 5 M which is logical, but the term of 5 years is way to much and boxes the Bruins in. He's good for 25 prorated although I think he has 30+ ability and only hit that once. What he is, is a focused and determined playoff performer- he steps up because the talent is there the mindset matches it in April.

If he signs with Columbus and gets a 5+ term deal for over $30+ M don't tell MOI its not about the money. It is. some of you folks may be as gullible as a second grader and believe its about lifestyle or family but if he pulls in a significant amount either in term or money above 5/25 its about the money.

in summary- I am not comfortable with the term, his injury history, his inconsistent regular season play; I am comfortable with 5 M for 3 or 4 years at 5ish, and the playoff performance.

Best wishes to Nate, and thanks for opening up a spot for my guy Knight:handclap:

Some great posts here, dude is good as gone and should get a standing "O" his first trip into TD garden... No hard feelings here...

Same here. The guy scored some major clutch goals for us. No need to kick him for going for more money like he's the first one to do so.

The disparaging remarks about Nathan's wife is sickening. Contrary to some people's beliefs, she is an absolute sweetheart. She used to model and when they got married, she stopped. She's not a trophy wife that's for sure. She's also related to Jacques Plante so she comes from a hockey family as well.

I think cat400 may be onto something in terms of possibly being rattled after the bombing. They have 2 little boys and I completely understand why he may have changed his mind.

It sucks that he was open to coming back and then suddenly changed his mind but there is nothing we can do about it other than to remember the good times and move on just like him.

CLS is immune to terrorist acts?

Hate to say it, but I think Dan is right, this is likely ALL about the $$$. That's not a condemnation of Horton, most players make the same choice.

No bad feelings for NH. He was a good soldier for us.

But Columbus????? Surely he has better options, no?

Can't blame him for wanting a long-term deal due to his head issue. No way Boston was going to give him 7 years. If the quiet life is what he is now seeking, then he will get it in Columbus.

Good on him, Awful for Columbus... For a guy who really only shows up in the playoffs, what is he going to do for a team that probably wont make the playoffs for the length of his contract? maybe he wanted longer offseasons?

I certainly hope it's about the money. I like to believe that aside from the $$$, the thing an NHLer wants most is to win the Cup, not just have a nice "lifestyle." Naïve of me, I know.

No place is immune...but Boston is a much more higher profile city than Columbus.
