News Article: Why did Nathan Horton leave the Bruins, really?

It's all about term IMO. He got a long term deal and good money. He would not have been offered a 7 year term w/ Boston. This is a player who arguably is a big hit or two away to having his career ended.

Is this about nate or bergeron?

all players are a hit or two away from having their careers ended.

True, but he is at a greater risk or not being able to rebound from one based off what he know about concussions, agree? I guess the same could be said about Bergeron, but the fact that Bergeron has rebounded from other hits after the major concussion he sustained years back is a good sign when it comes to dealing with concussions.

no.

a hit could end someone's career despite them not having any concussion issues. i don't think myself, yourself or many people in the nhl, nfl or other sports truly understand concussions or their effects on the brain.

Of course a hit could end someone's career despite them not having any issues.....Agree to disagree, but my point is that I think most concussion experts will tell you that if you have sustained a serious concussion, you are at a greater risk of suffering a more severe one the next time around. I do agree that we don't understand concussions and every situation is of course different, but I think the consensus is that you are at a higher risk if you have a previous history and the way you recover for concussions also has a role in things. I remember WWEI having a doctor who was concussion expert from Mass General on talking about concussions and Bergeron and Horton this past season, and he said you are obviously at a great risk if you sustained previous concussions, and how you bounce back from further concussions is important...

Same reason no one wants to sign here. If you're not having fun playing hockey then why play other than for money. Maybe its why the Chia has to overpay for the Peverley's of the world... and then scramble to trade him. And overpay for someone else.

That and all the smear campaigns.

Apparently Franklin Park didn't cut it.

During a visit to the city on Wednesday to talk with team officials, Horton, his wife Tammy, 5-year-old son Dylan and 15-month-old Zach, joined Blue Jackets director of hockey operations John Davidson on a trip to the Columbus Zoo.
"They brought out all the baby animals. We got to see a big cheetah, they brought him out of the cage and it was pretty cool,'' Horton said with a laugh. "Not too many people get to do that. It was really exciting; it was kind of scary at the same time.''
Dylan loves penguins. So the zoo brought one out so he could pet it. The family was won over.
"It was unbelievable,'' Davidson said. "They brought a penguin out and the little guy was holding a penguin! I even went over and gave him a little pet.''
Horton said he felt at home everywhere he went around Ohio's capital city.
"This is the place I wanted to be,'' he said. "It feels like home.''

one and only reason.

:sarcasm:

cant let it die

ha! Guy calls him "Norton" at the end of the article. Welcome to Columbus, where they can't get the names straight for their only professional sports team...

I loved Nate and I am going to miss him on the Bruins. He is a big game player, no question, and he is only going to get better as he distances himself from the concussions.. be smart Nate about that!

His departure in the same off season as Seguin is curious to me. This is speculation on my part, follow me here:

-Nate always said how much he LOVED being a Bruin.
-Nate has a VERY hot wife, in my humble opinion, but she is also a former playboy bunny, so i think I am safe in saying that.
-Tyler Seguin was called out as lacking professionalism
-Tyler Seguin is known as a bit of a lady slayer
-Nate no longer wants to be in Boston

Makes me wonder if the Bruins were to have traded Seguin before Nate signed if he would have been more open to sticking around...

How about the FO simply didnt want to give Horton the money nor the term.
They offer him 1 or 2 years deal at a little more the 4.5\5M.

Then Horton said he no longer want to play in Boston.

I think it was a/b the money and security he wasn't going to get here. As far as Seguin? I think if anything was up, Seguin would have arrived in Dallas eating through a straw.

I wasn't crazy a/b Horton in the regular season. However, the guy won me over in the playoffs. Undeniable the man has that knack to produce in big games. Now we have to hope Iggy can replicate that. You're right, the longer he stays away from concussions, the better off he'll be, I hope he keeps the gloves on. If he's on the Bergeron clock, so to speak, he'd of shaken some the cobwebs we saw last season, and closer to pre-concussion Horton. Why I hoped he could be signed. But, he knew to stay here he had to leave $$$ on the table. I think it came down to that.

I also read somewhere he has an autistic child. Could have been a factor. Teasing can be an issue w/ these kids. People around here don't like to hear it, some who don't travel have little conception of it, but we aren't the friendliest out there. Ohio? People are so friendly and laid back, it's hard to get used to. Especially being from here.

Horton will be missed. But I question how much? If a big name ends up landing here to replace him so be it. Perhaps on the bright side we may actually upgrade. With Horton leaving that opens up cap space no?

Good read on the article but perhaps its the fact that he did play with the torn up shoulder and felt forced too? I dont know, but something happened to want him to leave. Perhaps PC was going to offer a one year deal due to the cap and go for longer term next year. again we can only speculate.

37.1 million reasons for Horton to leave. And there's no way the Bruins were matching a 7 year offer when we already know he has injury/concussion concerns.

The Blue Jackets are the worst team in the NHL but Horton will be paid very well to be with a cellar dweller.

Blue jackets are far from being the worst team in the NHL! I wish nothing but the best for Horton the guy was money for the Bruins
