News Article: Why did Nathan Horton leave the Bruins, really?

Maybe he's just tired of the endless negative attention in Boston by both media and fans and wants to go to a quieter place where he can live and play hockey without all the added stress?

Some people don't like drama.

Lets see what the money looks like- I smell a rat

If Horton gets what Lou theorized $36/6 and Boston offered $25/5 I don't want to hear about life style lol it's money money money and an insult otherwise to anyone with an IQ above 90

I have no problem with him leaving I would not give him 5 at 25ish. God Bless him I just can't see why anyone would do this. If its Florida I Agee that's what I would do- Columbus I think it's money if he gets 35+ and this life style stuff is bull sheet

I can think of half a dozen reasons just off the top of my head. All speculation, of course.

Perhaps the reason why you can't see why anyone would do this is because you don't know the reason(s) behind it, and you aren't walking in Horton's shoes.

OK, here's one scenario for you - something with which I can identify.

Horton has two very young children. Suppose - now this is just a scenario - one of his children is disabled and will never be able to work and support himself, though he's otherwise healthy and will probably live a long life.

Would you therefore trash Horton if he goes for the money money money?

He made 24 mil already. Add another 25 and his great grandkids never have to worry about working.

24 million on a contract doesn't = 24 million. Agents, accountants, taxes, two homes, etc. etc. etc. It adds up. And if you're talking about special schooling, care, etc. - watch it drain away faster than you can blink.

Personally, I'm terrified of what happens to my son after I go. If I could accumulate as much money as possible I'd do it without a moment's hesitation. Failing that, I plan to live forever, and of course, stay healthy and be able to work forever too.

But, of course, as I said, that's just a scenario. Perhaps his wife can't take living in Boston anymore. Perhaps the pressure of performing for a winner and the media scrutiny is just too much for him to handle. Or perhaps he is indeed nothing more than a money-grubbing mercenary. I have no idea. DKH said he couldn't fathom why Horton would do this, and I'm just offering one possible theory as to why.

Horton has already made well over $30 M. His kids aren't sick- I see the oldest running around the Garden at games; the baby seems healthy and happy- I've heard zero problems so you can sleep well for the Hortons. And even if they were the Horton's can support those children better than 99.99999999999% of all individuals.

Its simple.....really simple

A. I would not sign him here beyond 3 years so he leaves with nothing but thanks from me as a hockey fan no matter what he does

B. If he goes back to Florida for $1 M a year or $6 M a year that is what I would do assuming the Panthers (or even the Bolts) want me. Living in my house year round is my objective playing with a young core featuring Barkov and Huberdeau is attractive

C. If he signs with Columbus and its something in the 6 or 7 year neighborhood for $6 mil or so don't tell me its about lifestyle. :biglaugh: Its about the money....Columbus at one time had nearly double the crime rate of the average US city, and the weather in Jan is about what we get....so if his wife wants to tan in Columbus I suggest joining a gym with tanning beds, and making sure the doors are locked while you tan.

and finally, we will know within 72 hours or so whether it is about the money or not

I didn't suggest they were sick. My kid's not sick.

The disparaging remarks about Nathan's wife is sickening. Contrary to some people's beliefs, she is an absolute sweetheart. She used to model and when they got married, she stopped. She's not a trophy wife that's for sure. She's also related to Jacques Plante so she comes from a hockey family as well.

I think cat400 may be onto something in terms of possibly being rattled after the bombing. They have 2 little boys and I completely understand why he may have changed his mind.

It sucks that he was open to coming back and then suddenly changed his mind but there is nothing we can do about it other than to remember the good times and move on just like him.

I think you're reading way too much into it. He's one punch away from Savard's situation. He couldn't even get through a fight w/ Iginla w/o tearing up his shoulder. All that said, he's still dumb enough to drop the gloves, he's proven that several times now. I'm actually glad I don't have to worry a/b that anymore.

This is a/b cashing in as big as he can, when he can, period. Some will get it, some will take it personal.

$$$$$ that's it. Not everyone is Bergeron.

Cant disagree my friend...any word or guess what our beloved were offering?

guess is 5/25ish....I like him but with his concussions and injuries and somewhat streaky play, I'm ok with him going. Besides put Seguin in the best situation to succeed which to me is with Krejci and Lucic. Hate hearing we are looking for a replacement for Horton spot that does not include The Boy Everyone Hates

The speculation in this thread has now reached absurdly laughable levels. Terrorism, Tanning Beds, Tykes...funny stuff.

Don't really care if he leaves; he wants out and I wouldn't pay him what he will get anyway.

But, to quote GeeWally, it's always about the money.

The good news is - it's a toss up which line is better for Seguin. He's had chemistry w/ Lucic, and definitely w/ Bergeron and Marchand. I think L:ucic and Krejci benefit more from Seguin's speed. Lets face it, speed isn't their friend.

But I don't want to see Bergeron left w/ chopped liver on his right wing. We need to make an attempt to replace that production.

I appreciate all he did for us, but I just think that he probably wants to play for a team that plays a more up tempo style.

to funny....in all seriousness, I'd buy it if it had a lot of pictures. I'm not sure I've read 5 books in my life which sadly explains a lot:help: Maybe the Dangley ****** is correct after all

A completely false story....

Why even bring anything like this up? Not even close to Horton's situation. he wants out of Boston cause of money...no big deal. On to the next one, thats sports.

Because we're not allowed to speculate that there's no concerns for Horton and that he just wants money but we are allowed to create fictional circumstances which explain why he wants to go somewhere with nice weather.

Felger ripping Horton yesterday did make me laugh as much as I loved Horty when he was here. I kinda agreed with Felger too =\

could very well be true, many out there like him however, if and when he signs the contract I am anticipating, he`ll feel some heat if he doesn`t deliver. Now, some cities will bring more heat than others but if he does sign in Columbus, he`ll feel it, from what I have seen/read, their fans have become very knowledgeable over the years and have tired of mediocrity.

He may or may not get recognized on the street there, but no longer does their fan base need to be explained by the commentators what an icing is....not trying to be a smart *** but that`s what I recall in their earliest games, having the rules explained by the PBP guy during the game

I wish Nate well, nice guy, but I stated long ago, wanted no part of him remaining on this team moving forward after this year
