Why are the Devils 21-4-1? insane easy schedule, makes perfect sense.

Oh yeah I have no beef with the Devils. Fun to see their team succeed like this, much better than the Marty days when they would come to Montreal and beat us 1-0.
Nor do I have any beef with MTL.

Thanks to them we directly have 3 cups, and challenged for two more.

Plus class organizations get respect.

They are the team embodiment of Tomas Tatar

A great regular season possession team that will struggle when physicality is increased in the playoffs.
In Tatar’s 5 games before the benching, his line controlled 60% of shot attempts, 17% better than the rest of the team. But his on ice shooting percentage was 3%, so he stinks.

Been watching them a good amount this season since they have been keeping up with my Bruins.

These guys are very good. Turned on that Rangers game the other night and they were down 2-0. I think the Rangers touched the puck again after it was 4-2 Devils. They are killing teams and look bored while doing it.

Hey do the Devils want Ruhwedel from the Pens? Clearly our players become transcendent once they get that Devils Crest.

A 2nd gets it done.

Bunch of meaningless stats from a 5 game sample.

He got benched in Montreal and Vegas' cup run

If the Devils go on a run, he will get benched too. But he's a great regular season player.

Guess the Devils switch in Palat and win the Stanley Cup.

cant "out physical" a team if they are skating you into the ground like NJ does

I also always love these comments, like hockey is some sort of different sport in the playoffs. Its not. You're just playing tougher competition night in and night out.

I'm 100% on board with the first part, and that's why I'm so excited to watch them in the playoffs (outside of the fact that its been a while.)

But the second part.... you are one of, if not the only people inside or outside of hockey that doesn't seem to realize the game changes in the playoffs....

meh, the game "changes" because you're playing against very good teams every night and the stakes are extremely high. So I guess in that sense the game "tightens up" a bit, but I think that aspect of "you need to be physical because the playoffs are a different sport" is extremely overstated IMO. I realize that isn't a popular take.

It's not that simple. It's the willingness that almost every guy on the team has to do the things they might not during the regular season. It's not just hits. Mercer isn't the best player in the world, but is a relentless maniac most nights and it makes him tremendously effective. In the playoffs, entire teams play like it could be their last game almost every game. So every loose puck, board battle, shotblock, rebound etc etc...gets amplified and each game is a massive grind. Add on top best teams in the league for at least 4 games in a row if you'd like.

Again, excited to see if what the Devils are doing will suffice, but I 100% expect a wake up call from game 82 to round 1 game 1 and am excited to see how they react to it.

Devils are that hot new thang.

Their GM needs to bolster the boys with a solid add at the trade deadline.

Team could make serious noise and their time starts NOW.

Maybe by the deadline, they could need to add something but right now I think their best bet is to stay the course, they still have viable options in Utica for depth as long as the top guys stay relatively healthy they should be alright.

If they make the playoffs and get bounced, maybe then they'll look to add another piece or two, but I can't see them sacrificing prospects or picks just yet.

There is usually lots to be had at the TDL for a 2nd round pick (sometimes with a B/C prospect thrown in).

And if you’re on track to be a playoff team by the TDL, that 2nd round pick is likely to be in the 50-60 OA range.

It would be wise to evaluate needs (and long term injuries) in January and go from there.

remember they will be getting Palat back probably in a month or so, which will be a huge addition

I don’t really see the need for the Devils to add much except for maybe some extra forward/defense depth. We have the core pieces filled in pretty well, there’s just a bit of a development gap outside our NHL roster + Holtz/Bahl/Okhotiuk/Walsh.

Most likely scenario would be to add some depth forwards or defenders just in case injuries strike. Pretty comfortable guys like Sharangovich, Mercer, and Zetterlund can slide up the lineup in the event of injury. Just not sure who would replace them lower in the lineup.

I would say someone like Motte or Bonino would make a ton of sense up front for late round picks. A depth RHD that won’t play unless injures strike would be smart too like a Matt Benning type, not sure what’s out there though.
