Why are the Devils 21-4-1? insane easy schedule, makes perfect sense.

Looking at their roster, coach, coaching staff, GM. The fact that they were trash last season with pretty much the same roster and staff 27-46-9 | 248-307 (-59)

versus

11-3-0 | 51-36 (+15)

Unreal season, 100% unsustainable.
- I just hope that they wont end up like Buffalo Sabres, when they led the league early of that season
Another solid stat watching post from George with another dumb conclusion.

How does it make no sense? Many were saying before the year that they're stacked and have a good roster aside from goaltending.

Agreed, any questions were really centered more around goaltending (and to a significantly lesser extent) growth. Several players have made significant growth and their goaltending has been good. Definitely on the upswing.

Good for them, close to the last five-seven years they've been an afterthought compared to the other two NY area teams and they're more fun to watch than both now and are better.

So you just don't know who Jonas Siegenthaler or John Marino are? Or even Graves and Severson for that matter.

Siegenthaler was one of the best defensive players in the league last year and he looks even better this season beside a healthy Hamilton.

But but their elite prospects page doesn't say that, so how on earth is one suppose to know that?

Improvement in the D core has been huge. Seigenthaler is showing last year wasn’t a fluke, Marino is looking like a fantastic pickup and Dougie Hamilton is doing what a healthy Dougie Hamilton does. Is this a 120 point team? No. But stacking these points early will definitely have them in the divisional race for awhile and I won’t be shocked to see them sneak into a WC spot.

Last season we lost Hughes, hamilton, wood, and three of our goalies to significant injuries for significant amount of our season. I think we played 6 or 7 goaltenders last season.

You have no clue.

The goalie carousel looks like it’s about to happen again though. 😭

The real Nico Hischier has finally arrived.

He’s the engine that’s driving this train.

He’s been a top 5 player in the league this year.
i am probably the biggest nico supporter on the board and i really hope, this is the real nico. but it could also be a hot streak.

so far this season he was incredible. if he can stay healthy and keep this up, the devils and him will get opportunities to prove it with some hardware.

Hmmm, in a sport where getting shots and prevent shots helps to score more and get scored on less, the Devils are top notch. It is completely sustainable.

And I hope for their sake the goaltending injuries are minor and they too aren't derailed by key players being out like Buffalo is. It's new to see a Devil team and have to invent something to bag on them that isn't based in the Dead Puck Era. It'll have to be Tyson Nash-esque - they skill it up. A lot. Fun team to watch, wish them continued success.

No it's not.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the way the Devils are playing "D", I think Akira will have an easier time of it during his run with the Devils this time around as opposed to the tire fire he was thrown into his first go-around with the team.
Maybe but doesn’t change the fact that a mere 14 games into the season and we’re already rolling with 3 and 4 on the depth chart.

What a coachable moment in your understanding of hockey.

I certainly wouldn't call (by far) the best team with respect to quantity of quality shots for and against unsustainable. Maybe if you spent less time "watching games" for studying the game?

NJD have tons of talented players near their prime ages (or even younger). If anything as other posters have noted, their record shows underperforming. This team with just above average goaltending is scary, but it is their weakest link.

Hughes, Hischier, Bratt is a pretty good core for the forward group. Hamilton, Marino, Siegenthaler, Severson is a pretty good core of defense.

They remind me a lot of where the Canes were in 2019. You have a bunch of young players with no hype, making the jump into their prime simultaneously. The missing element is goaltending… when that slides into place, suddenly you go from losing 3-4 a lot to winning 3-2 a lot. Next thing you know it’s playoffs, and contenders get nervous seeing you as their matchup. Then the stars get better reps and it’s like “of course this team is a contender, they’re loaded!”. Pretty natural growth cycle for a team coming out of a rebuild.
