Why are the Devils 21-4-1? insane easy schedule, makes perfect sense.

Looking at their roster, coach, coaching staff, GM. The fact that they were trash last season with pretty much the same roster and staff 27-46-9 | 248-307 (-59)

versus

11-3-0 | 51-36 (+15)

Unreal season, 100% unsustainable.
- I just hope that they wont end up like Buffalo Sabres, when they led the league early of that season
Solid Goaltending helps instead of the Gong Show it was last season which was why they were "trash" as you called it.

(also better D being played by all to help the Goaltender, also plays a part)

Combine that with the core taking the next big step in their development and we have a team that is on quite a roll.

Personally I think this vibes a bit of looking at previous years standings and the name of a team (that gets associated with the general level they've had over the past 5-10 years) rather than potential in roster and what pieces are actually in place. I think it was very realistic to expect big improvements this year from NJ, Buf, Ott, Cbj and Det. I did not agree with some who tried to downplay the improvements Ott made. I still think they can do far better then they have so far. And Det have done well despite significant injuries.

Cbj obviously has failed tremendously so far with defense and goaltending but their big rise could come next year already. The talent is there.

Also, some of the usual top teams are trending down. Boston is making an amazing Last Dance but we'll have to see if Pittsburgh turns things around and the Caps are certainly in for a challenge. Even if some of the young teams starts cooling down points will be divided more evenly (the East standings were extremely polarized last year).

they are not as good as their record, like the Sabres last year, and I see that Sabres are now going through their expected slide down into the basement again after all the optimistic chatter. Devils will likely will cool off with that goaltending tandem. Their trajectory is better than sabres though, there is a good chance next year they can make playoffs.

Devils have become a very frustrating team to play against. They are very agressive on the puck and tend to dictate the flow of the game. Their transition game is really good and a key reason for such a lopsided shot differential. They have a very balanced defensive core and the goaltending has proven decent as a result.
They have youth, skill and speed from top to bottom. Their 4th line is more productive than the 4th line of most teams in the league. I still think the team lacks a pure sniper to be a legit contender this year but we will see.
What's been impressive is their poise when they are down. The team stays composed and continues to play within the system. It's as if they don't panic when they are down but keep going.

Hischier has become a true 1C this season. Playing selke level D while displaying lots of gut on tge offensive zone, just a possession monster

Marino has been great and Dougue healthy really improved tge blueline

Wood healthy has formed one of the best fourth line in the league with bastian and mcleod

PP went from unplayable to good/decent

Haula for Zacha basically replace a non passion player that didnt produce for a guy that is relenteless and a nice fit next to our best players (both small skilled guys)

So many changes that dont show just by lookimg at the roster page

If you don't think this Devils team will make the playoffs this year, you haven't been paying attention.
They have already beaten the following teams:

Colorado
Edmonton
Calgary x2
Ottawa (which is a better team than their record shows)

They swept Boston in the pre-season with both teams playing their starters.

If you exclude like 5 forwards and 1 d-man, its AHL level roster on paper.
and they are still coached by Lindy Ruff... LOL

Strange times in the NHL.

Their defensive depth has improved to the point that Severson, who was on their top pairing a couple of seasons ago, is now on their bottom pairing. And Hughes still isn't firing on all cylinders. When Bratt and Hischier cool off...he could very well heat up and carry the load.

As good as some of their players are currently playing, there's a handful that have yet to hit their stride. Sharangovich, for instance, tends to take time to really get going, while Mercer's still trying to put it all together.

There will be some regression, no doubt. But they won't fall off a cliff. Not with so many emerging talents fighting just to get playing time, now and in the near future.

Well lets see.. We turned ESPN analyst PK Subban and one of the worst LD in the league Ty Smith into John Marino and Brendan Smith. We acquired veteran presence with Haula and Palat while shipping out Zacha and Kuokkanen. We have young players taking steps like Zetterlund. We have Wood coming back from injury who didnt play at all last year. Our core guys are taking steps. We brought in one associate coach and 2 assistant coaches.

Oh and goaltending.. Devils went through seven goalies last year. Blackwood (.892) was on and off the injuries the whole year. Bernier (.902) still hasnt played a game since his injury early on last year. Wedgewood (.880) was claimed on waivers. 20 and 22 yo rookies in Akira Schmid (.833) and Nico Daws (.893) were asked to play games, cause our other option was Jon Gillies (.885) who cant even crack the lineup for Arizona. Our last option was to acquire Andrew Hammond (.860) at the deadline just so we could send Daws down. Hammond currently has .851 in the KHL as he failed to secure another NHL job.

Vanecek has given us .915 goaltending.

Theyre not winning the Cup but theyre a legit hockey team.

They’re better because:
- their top players are improving even more and Nico has gone super saiyan
- new/better coaching
- competent goaltending
- their D is playing at an absurd level, and Dougie is earning the shit out of his contract

If your comment about them having 1 NHL D isn’t a weak troll attempt, I’m concerned about your lack of hockey knowledge.

Are you trying to be sarcastic/funny or don't you just follow that team at all?
Hamilton - Siegenthaler
Marino - Severson/Graves
Is one of the best top 4 defensive core in the whole league.
AHL roster good lord...

So you just don't know who Jonas Siegenthaler or John Marino are? Or even Graves and Severson for that matter.

Siegenthaler was one of the best defensive players in the league last year and he looks even better this season beside a healthy Hamilton.

How does it make no sense? Many were saying before the year that they're stacked and have a good roster aside from goaltending.

Two #1OA centres will take you very far, Nico seems to have elevated into a true #1C. Marino/Siegs has been a godsend defensively.

And they are only going to get better with the prospects they have.
