Why are the Devils 21-4-1? insane easy schedule, makes perfect sense.

I think the year we drafted Jack we finished like 3rd worst? I can't call that gifted

Definitely not gifted, but they also “won” the lottery by moving up in 2022, 2019, 2017, and 2011. Obviously they’ve been fortunate in that sense. But as I’m sure you and I both know, we watched some very sad and depressing seasons year after year to “earn”that luck.

Why not? He isn’t a full time NHLer. He hasn’t even played his rookie season yet. He hasn’t played since like the 4th game of the season.
And why exactly hasn't he played since like the 4th game? He's waiver eligible so he doesn't have to sit in a press box. So yeah, wouldn't count him.

They're set up really nicely for a decade of dominance. Good team right now, great young talent waiting in the wings, and a young coach in Brunette being groomed to take over. I agree that they need one more game breaker up front though. Good for them though, was a long time coming.

Holtz is not waiver eligible at this point. He’s on his elc and has t hit 160 games or 5 seasons yet. They can send him to Utica at any point. And I think they should if they aren’t going to play him. My guess is he gets Tatar’s spot in the top 6 next year or fills in and the eventual injuries start hitting us.

We should re-sign Tatar if he continues to play like he has lol

Come on now. There is a huge element of luck in hitting on late round picks. If the Devils thought he was going to be this good, they wouldn't have passed on him 5 times.
I'm not saying I had him as a superstar before he was drafted. But after about 10 games into his rookie season, I knew this was a special, special player.

Check my post history, receipts are there.

Not gonna last, highly doubt it. 10 game winning streak seen this so many times.

I'm genuinely interested to know how many times has a team missed the playoffs after having a 10 game win streak. To me it sounds like it's way more unlikely, but if you've seen it many times please enlighten me.

It's definitely possible that they go on a 10 game losing streak, especially if they face injures. The december schedule with 2xBoston, 2xCarolina, 2xPanthers, Rangers, Dallas, could be it. However the way they are playing and how the advanced stats look, it's more likely they won't. But I mean if you know the future and don't have to rely on actual evidence and results like the rest of us mortals, then I can see why one would make such predictions.

Out of the 61 times it’s happened, 58 teams have made the playoffs after the fact. Two of the recent ones that had a 10 game heater then missed the playoffs had horrendous underlying numbers.

I think we can probably rule out prescience as one of George's talents.

A well balanced roster, better D, way better goaltending, and the offense is rolling with young players taking huge strides. Not that hard to see their patient rebuild paying huge dividends now. I see a Colorado-like boom for this team. They’ve got the pieces to make some good runs. Watch out for them this decade.

With what they still have in the pipeline I think fans of other "up and coming" teams need to reevaluate their position. They should only improve from here for a while. Sobering thought for the DRW, OTT, MN, BUFF, LA and HABS of the world.

Devils were very fortunate both Hischier and Hughes were the players available for them to pick at 1st overall.
Winning the lottery is one thing. Winning it in a draft year where a stud center is there for the taking, that's luck. Luke Hughes being available at 4th was luck. Nemec was also pure luck. He might end up being the best player if his draft class. It's very unusual to draft high end defensemen in back to back drafts. They are simply not available.

This has been the most annoying start to the season to look at standings wise, that is for sure. With the exception of finally seeing the Caps “crash crash” and the Pens “crumble
Crumble”
