And? I'd hardly consider, making the playoffs 4/7 times mediocre, including a trip to the second round, a round that only 8 teams compete in a year, that's less than a quarter of the league.

16 of 30 teams make the playoffs. Making it 4 out of 7 times falls in line with the average.

You have a better than 1 in 4 chance to make the 2nd round. Were at 1 in 7. Worse than the average.

Isn't below average-to-average the exact definition of "mediocre"? You're arguing semantics at this point.

We got plenty of love in the lockout season

OP needs to realize most posters on HF are absolutely clueless, especially on the main board

I don't understand how you guys don't see it really... The reason is that we don't see this team getting in the right direction. Your team's internal budget is killing their chance to do anything really. The thing that hurt you guys the most is that your 2 previous captains left because they didn't like the direction the team is going. Also, after all the assets you traded for Bobby Ryan and him becoming a UFA probably wanting a big deal and also the fact you have an internal budget, we wonder if the Sens will be able to keep him at a price that he will want. And my last point would be that also because of your internal budget, Ottawa always seems like they have to trade away good players while they could be competing because of it and then get other prospects and the cycle goes on and on.

I don't think anyone should take those comments seriously. Everyone knows that hockey fans like to **** on other fanbases and that's how it is.

And main boards.. Haha. Don't stop cheering for your team just because someone thinks your team sucks. Learn to ignore.

Listen

We know you Scabs fans are still very insecure about the pounding you got in the 2013 playoffs; we were the same way with Toronto in the early 2000's

However we don't care for your ilk coming on our turf and telling us how bad our team is going to be; especially since Ottawa is going to better than Montreal next year

Seriously. If he's not the best he's the 2nd or 3rd best in the world. That's a strange opinion to be ******** over.

This may change when Karlsson can pivot properly to the right. He just got danced too much last year. They got around him outside and wasn't real effective in front of the net and Doughty does have 2 cups. He also has a better team.

Sure ... this attitude could be another reason. I mean did my arguments sound condescending at all? Ottawa are probably my third favorite team and I talk about them with my roommate who is a sens fan all the time. All I am trying to say is that even if we like Ottawa's team, we lost faith in Melnyk's ability to ice a competitive team.

I'll say it:

Nothing you said in your first post was untrue.

Alfie and Spezza left on less than ideal terms but let's not act like we are doomed without them: I happen to think that management was ok with the idea of letting Spezza go since the team is so young

When the team made the trade for Ryan (also worth mentionning that Noesen, Silfverberg and Ritchie are all long shots as far as becoming legit top 6 players goes) they knew they were going to need to sign him: I don't think the fact that he had two years left on his contract was a huge secret. How about we wait and see if we do sign him before calling it a failure?

Other than Spezza and Alfie I'm at a loss as to which seemingly great players we had to let go in the last 3 or 4 years

Geez, someone is insecure. He didn't say anything wrong or insulting.

To the habs fan, sorry about this guy, we welcome respectful insight from other teams fans any time.

Sure. I think Karl can be the best again but it's hard to argue with Doughty's 2 gold medals and 2 rings with teams on which he was the best defender... by the age of 24. He should have won the Conn Smyth as well. He's well on his way to being a first ballot HHOFer.

I do think Karlsson at his best is the most dominant player in the league though aside from Malkin at his best.

Agreed.

The losing players thing might be a trend people have noticed a number of years ago, regardless of whether we "had to" let them go, or not (ie Heatley for Hossa trade). Other fans around the league see former Senators like Chara, Hasek, Hossa and Fisher have great success after leaving Ottawa and they say to themselves "Man, if Ottawa could have kept those guys, they'd be amazing. I can't believe they lost all that talent." So when high profile guys like Alfie and Spezza walk, rightly or wrongly, it strengthens their stance on us not being able to retain talent.

It's rather funny how the insecure bunch on here agree with the Scabs fan coming here and telling us our team is doomed to blow

I have faith in this team and I think they are going to surprise people but people like you would rather talk about Melnyk being cheap than hockey

When Crosby at his best is a responsible almost 1.5ppg he should have been mentioned.

Not after one single year no: it's mostly hyperventilating since it is, in no way, shape or form, a trend yet

If the team ends up signing Ryan, Methot and MacArthur is Melnyk still cheap?

You are spot on with your post.

You do understand that letting Chara walk had nothing to do with Melnyk being cheap right?

To be fair, while Doughty got the medal, while being the best defender on his TEAM...Karlsson was the best defender of the TOURNAMENT and single handedly carried that injury decimated Sweden team. Also to be fair, LA is stacked....its a team game.
