Why are Boston Bruins the most hated team throughout the NHL?

Have read in numerous internet sources that Boston Bruins are by far the most hated team in the NHL.

During the last decade I can easily refer this to the likes of Marchand, Chara, Horton, Lucic or S. Thornton, but is it historically only linked with their style of play i.e. the fact that Bruins have always been a harsh, tough and sometimes dirty team or there are also other reasons behind that?

2 reasons...

1. They beat you and beat you up. Insult to injury

2. They are hated by the 2 largest and loudest fanbases...Montreal and Toronto

The past two decades have been the most successful stretch in Boston sports history.

Everybody points their guns at the throne.
By "their" you mean the Pats. One cup in 2011 does not by any means show the Bruins as dominant over the past two decades.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Some of it, sure, but everything ???

Because they always have at least 2 or 3 universally hated players across the entire league!

Yeah, I hate a few other Eastern teams more: the Penguins, going back pretty far; the Lightning; hell, even Jersey.

Used to be if winning at the end they would goon it up.If they were losing at the end they would goon it up.Now they don't do that very often.

Why? The Leafs aren't hated for being good or anything.

They're hated because they're the NHL version of the annoying kid that brags about how rich his dad is

Their team isnt really hated. Just their fanbase. Leafs fans need something to keep themselves going. They've been a loser franchise forever.

Exactly, Leafs fans all act like if the Toronto Maple Leafs are the Montreal Canadiens.

Honestly as a canuck fan i actually like the bruins until 2011 then after that i was not that fond of them

I'm surprised people say Toronto in this thread. That they're 'hated' always seems like their fans playing the 'victim' card. I mean, parts of their fanbase can be insufferable and people get frustrated with how much attention they get - and I know that people take a bit of perverse joy in their failures - but The Team itself has been pretty much an after-thought in the NHL for decades.

What? They have 1 cup

It's the style of play. Leafs are there too though. They are definitely 1-2 in most hated

What in gods name are you going on about? It's obvious the Leafs are the most hated. Bruins haven't exactly had much success either in decades besides that one year and they get slot of hate too.

Surely he's talking about the city in general - Sox, Pats, Bruins have all had varying degrees of success over the last 20 years.
