If McPhee is available he'd be my 1st choice. I think he was forced into a promotion because Vegas didn't want to lose McCrimmon.

Armstrong is another interesting name. He built a damn good team and tore it down real quick. Problem with him is he downgraded Pietrangelo to Faulk over a squabble of about $1m aav, and now has built his team around a Charmain Ultra Soft duo Thomas and Kyrou.

0 interest in Pridham or Tulsky or anyone else with no real hockey/GM experience
Thats who I think its going to be, McPhee gives you an experienced and respected GM who had a similar type of team in Washington and it would let you have someone else to wait in the wings since he is on the older side.

So based on the names being tossed around Treliving Fletcher Chiarelli or Bergevin? Or the guy that covers up the sexual assault? Yikes f*** no.

Better hope we can poach someone competent currently employed. Which is doubtful.

Those aren't the only names

There is

Dean Lombardi
Mike Gillis
Doug Armstrong name is out there, although I 'm not sure why.
Doug Wilson
Ray Shero
George Mcphee
David Poile, I know he said he's done but $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ talks and when it does people listen

The list of candidates is a lot longer than people think.

Experience and credibility is needed you can't have a rookie deal with Matthews

McPhee Poile and Armstrong are wishful thinking. Not sure if Lombardi and Wilson are retired or not. Don't agree with this list.

The thing is, Calgary wasn't built on the back of three high draft picks that do damage in the regular season... 4 if you include Tavares.

Trieliving did it without truly tanking and still has more success than Dubas.

Literally all Dubas had to do was bring in coaches and vets to teach the kids how to play winning hockey, and fill in depth and goaltending.

What did he do? Dumpster dove on goaltending, had a rotating cast on defence that lacked any real talent besides Rielly and Schenn, brought in vets like Spezza, Thornton, and Giordano who aren't known for playoff success, and hired the only loser coach he's ever hired

Just to be clear your argument for hiring Treliving is that he had similar results to Dubas but with less access to resources so he should be on the shortlist.

Like I said with Armstrong I'm not sure why his name is out there there but I have seen it.

I'm not convinced Mcphee is wishful thinking.

Poile probably is but EVERYBODY has a price why not back up the money truck?

I know he doesn't have any GM experience but I hope they at least interview Kris Draper.

Local guy, played forever in the league and has been learning under some of the best the league had/has to offer in terms of front office guys...

Other than that in terms of actual experienced GM's, I would hope they inquire with Lombardi and Doug Wilson

If they want to have a GM in place sooner than later, doubt Tulsky is the guy.
Lacks the experience Shanahan said he wanted, but he also said he’s open minded…….

I’d like McPhee to build me Vegas. Instead of Eichel, it’s Matthews. Thank you.
How about a Caps reunion, McPhee as GM, Dale Hunter as coach, incoming in 3…..2…..1…..

Shanny is not hiring that train wreck Treliving lol.

Remember, this is likely his last hire so he has to hit. He's now on the hot seat. There's no more fkin around. We wasted 5 years with Kyle spinning our wheels going nowhere.

He needs a proven talented GM. Treliving's body of work is mediocre at best both with drafting and team results in the playoffs. Unlikely that Shanny puts his trust and last hire into that guy.

Mcphee / armstrong would be tops - but not sure they'd leave. If Tulsky is in fact the defacto GM for the Hurricanes, he will certainly be in the mix. Carolina runs a brilliant program.

This also fails to mention that Treliving drafted the likes of Mangiapane, Fox, Dube, Andersson and Kylington…too small of a sample size. Treliving is a good GM and Dubasites will go to any lengths possible to try and say he isn’t.
Yup, it seems many here have already picked who they’ll blame everything on going forward……..

Wilson is interesting. He did bring Jumbo Joe and Brent Burns to the Sharks. Much less keen about the Karlsson deal but by that time SJ was a desperate organization trying to add fuel at the very end of their window. They did make a lot of deep playoff runs though and it seems like whatever his big health issue was, its behind him now.

How nuts would it be if Shanahan just started offering GMs the same “financial package” Dubas asked for.

So. Why would McPhee leave Vegas to where he started the franchise and has had more success in the last few years than the Leafs have had in decades? I'm still looking for a good answer to this. I can see Armstrong cause maybe he is not into a long rebuild. George has all the autonomy and I imagine money there. So he would leave that to take on the Leafs.

I keep going to a three man race of Bowman, Hunter and Pridham and I really don't see why Pridham would leave if one of the other two are hired, maybe his role elevated.

I will say this. He who takes the job and finally leads this team to the stanley cup again will be immortalized. This is way over due, so damn over due.

Whoever this person is has to have the players back at all times, especially with league offices. I never want to see another GM in Toronto hang a Kadri out to dry and has no balls. He should have, Dubas, been fired that season. He was gutless and the team was gutless. They were up 3-1 and lst that series because they were gutless. Players were gutless as the GM was.

Look no further.

Oh, and Leafs have bottomless pockets and resources. Money talks.

So....many of those season poor performances were rewarded with very high pics that got them great talent. Without those years there would be no playoff shortcomings. The makeup of the team is on the GM, not the president. If anything he should be commended how he backed his GM when he wasn't popular. Loyalty is big for him and that in my eyes is a plus. Shanahan took the disaster of Burke and Nonis and within a few short years gave a ton of promise.

He gave his GM all the financial ability to do what he needed, the rest is on the GM. When Dubas was playing a game he finally let him go. I look at all of this as a positive. There is not one player in that room, minus saying Reily and one or two others, that left it all out there. Shanahan in my opinion has done a fantastic job.
I'm sorry, but this is exactly why Shanahan should be fired.

He sat back and watched while Dubas botched the rebuild.

He supported Dubas, ran it back over and over and over, despite enormous pressure from the fan base and every shred of evidence pointing toward it not working.

The results are in and it's conclusive.

He failed.

The retread candidates are uninspiring, making the hot shot AGM approach more appealing on its face.

Problem is, today's retreads (Hextall, Fletcher, Fenton, etc.) were yesterday's hot shot AGMs.

I Predict that Shanahan will pull an ace out of his back pocket and hire a GM that we will all be surprised by.

I didn't see the Lou hiring coming.
I didn't see the Babcock.

Shanny knows this is a crucial hire and he will use his clout and connections to make sure he gets his man!!!

Let's just hope they work out better than those two did.
