If Benson turns into something, it will likely be a lesson to GM’s moving forward to stop putting so much emphasis on size when it comes to forwards in particular.
Lol, as they did with Caufield?
You didn't want Leonard at 5?

I also wanted Allen. Would've made a great redemption stoty.
Lol WTK was very vocal against MM, hes just trying to cover his tracks because he knows he f***ed up.

5. Michkov
31. Halttunen/Edstrom/Strbak
37. Strbak / Wahlberg, Hrabal
69. Pekarcik
101. Stancl
110. Pinelli/ Minnetian
128. Sotheran
133. Allen / Ratzlaff
144. Mania / Milic / Mukhanov
165. Forsfjall / Xhekaj
197. Dej / Mann /Tourigny / someone they pick earlier and is available…

I haven’t had a chance to really look who was available and my list but very quickly I don’t see any of the player pick as BPA or best value…
I like some but never where they got pick the only pick I some what approve is Fowler and even than I prefer Pekarcik…
Way to much overager, or even older prospect (I think they only pick one 2005 born player), too many goalies...You can find the bright side in every pick but in the end most will bust anyway.

5David ReinbacherDAUT6' 2"Michkov W

#5 Michkov - Reinbacher is a great prospect, but if Michkov wasn't our pick, I would have traded down or if no one willing to pay, you call the bluff (pretty sure Briere wanted to start is rebuild /GM with a bang, He wanted Michkov more than we wanted Reinbacher) picking Michkov get all the draft day hype and than we have 2 years to trade him even if you just end up trading for Reinbacher

#31\#37 To review against Newhook trade which is a high price, I think 2 of Strbak, Hrabal, Edstrom, Wahlberg, Halttunen might be better or a better fit for future need...

#69 Pekarcik I love this guy at the U18, Folwer I had as a top 3 Goalie so I'm torn...

At this point the hope of landing anyone is pretty thin we should be taking some swing but I still go grab more recognizable name because if he break out in is D+1 it might generate better/some trade value... a la Duclair

#101 Stancl big 6'3 Center

#110 Minnetian over showed by the FW, / Pinelli/ Ciernik depending of positional need RD/C/W

#128 Sotheran big RD

#133 Ratzlaff (assuming that Miller is not available) / Allen depending of positional need G / RD

#144 Mania / Mukhanov / Milic

#165 Xhekaj / Forsfjall

#197 Dej / Mann /Tourigny / someone they pick earlier and is available…

first off, to all the haters that sent hate mail to david R. WHO THE F do you think you are.
If you are disappointed the habs did not pick your guy or ANY of your guys well TOOOOOOOOO BADDDDDDDDDD. A blind man can see what the habs plan was. Habs decided NOT to take Mich, so then what? clearly habs wanted Smith with David R as 2nd choice. For the first time in what 50 years NO TRADES! up or down. WOW. Now the habs had to choose between to NEEDS. Yes a 35 goal type player at 5th pick or whats even MORE RARE a top right handed big mobile dman ( and boy they dont grow on trees) It was also getting clear the Yotes were going to pick David R at 6th so pick me NOW or loose me forever. Since WHEN does deep draft never include dmen. I remember when the habs picked C Price, and the same hate mail again ( what a goalie! NOBODY PICKS A GOALIE at 5th, they can't score goals ) Remember all that shiiiit? So hear we go again with the haters. 3-4 years from now we will ALL KNOW who picked well and who picked the BUSTS. If YOU think you know better well I have some gold mine stock from north Korea since you know better and can tell the future.

The moment San Jose picked Smith, leaving Michkov on the table, I said, "Do it! Swing for the fences!". And then the moment Carey Price lost his ability to read a simple name, I felt the rebuild foundation start to crumble. Two years of shit and what do we have to show for it?

But the reality is we have no idea what we have to show for it. Not yet. 95% of us wanted Michkov. Do we know something management doesn't? It's possible. But it's also possible they know something we don't. Nuthin' we can do now but sit back and watch the show...

Yeah... there's a small portion of our fanbase that is seriously deranged. Imagine targeting an 18-year old with hate mail because of a hockey draft. I'm embarrassed to cheer for the same team as those idiots.

I was split between Michkov and Reinbacher. Michkov is likely the most spectacular of the two but Reinbacher more essntial to a cup win.

ok,so you want to swing for the fences at all times ok lets unpack that idea.
your married have two kids a house and YOU are the Man so your role is to earn enough to pay for everything. You idea is to empty the bank account, go over to the casino, make 1 bet and swing for the fences. You have NO SKIN IN THE GAME if you demand the habs swing for the fences, YOU DON'T SUFFER ANYTHING AT ALL IF YOU FAIL. How about you walk into you boss office and DEMAND a 50% pay raise or YOU QUIT, go ahead swing for the fences see WHAT HAPPENS. Clearly habs first choice was SMith, when that went away habs pick the hardest type of player to find. A BIG,Mobile, Right Handed DMAN. Hab can always BUY a 35 goal guy with money later. NOBODY ever trades their #1 right handed dman EVER.

Your very first sentence loses me. "swing for the fences at all times "?? Obviously not. There's a time to play it safe. However, when a prime opportunity lands in your lap, you grab it. To extend the metaphor, when you're down by 3 and the pitcher lobs a juicy one right in your wheelhouse, you swing for the fences.

Your second last sentence is also worth noting: "Hab can always BUY a 35 goal guy with money later." If it's that easy, why hasn't it happened in ages?

I would have picked Michkov, I think they made a mistake. With that said, my second choice would have been Reinbacker.

It so obviously should have been Michkov. This kid is gonna come over in a few years and make a lot of people look silly including some nhl franchises and some posters around here. (Even the ones covering their tracks lol)

I would took either the 100 point guy or 30 goal power forward. Montreal off limits to star UFA. Hard to acquire these guys. Habs can't score since days of Kirk Muller andats Naslund.

As per recent draft analyses size is valuable but overvalued by NHL GMs. Points are valued, but still undervalued. At least for regular season various stats guys have said that points adjusted by league provides better draft picks than have been made for forwards.
