Martin Madden, from the Anaheim Ducks. Big scouting background but has learned from one of the best in Bob Murray down there and his scouting record is very impressive. Not a lot of managerial experience. Basically Mark Hunter but with NHL track record.
Jeff Gorton. Decent resume with the Rangers but his tenure with them was short though. His trading/signing history is decently impressive. Questionable drafting/development, but that could be other issues in play. Probably the most favorable GM replacement if there is one made.
Chris MacFarland seems like a good candidate. Assistant with the Avs. I don't know much about him. Avs aren't exactly huge winners though I guess?
Scott Mellanby seems to be keep moving up in front offices, now assistant GM in MTL. An ex-NHLer with a lot of experience, so perhaps this is the kind of GM you need instead of purely management experience.
Lawrence Gilman could be ok as an interim. Hasn't done much since his Vancouver days. Marlies GM... but not much to go on. Doesn't seem to really fit.
Mike Gillis would be very weird and I don't understand why anyone would want that. Zero experience since 2014 and it was awful when he was there. I do not understand at all.
Dean Lombardi would be... painful.
I'm always very nervous about hiring long-time Assistant GMs, especially if they are older guys. They typically rarely ever work out. See -- Paul Fenton. I have ZERO interest in Mike Futa for that reason... Zero.
