Was on Boston.com at the inception. There was even a Boston Herald forum for a brief time that got pretty ugly.
Was one of 3 people who founded another small forum....still in operation today.

I remember when we voted for the header graphic for this site.

always thought Meister became Alberta . . .maybe because of the 10,000 word minimum in each treatise . . .I mean informative post..

"snicker" meetings for "coffee" "Later" - there were some belly-laughing threads!

being in upstate NY, was just a sponge getting Bruins info during the birth of the interweb.

 I miss Meister's posts. I always found them to be uniquely interesting.

I think I mention this every time on this recurring bi-annual memory lane thread.

Boston.com was knocked off line for hours after Montreal eliminated the Bruins in 2004. That night was the worst I had ever seen. Somebody posted Joe Thornton's address and it it wasn't caught in time :help:

Ah, a nostalgia thread, I love it! Lots of fun old names mentioned.

I missed the old style boards, but did started coming here early 2003. One of the few posters this side of the Atlantic at that time, if I remember correctly. Pretty much gone back to lurking nowadays though. Too many posts, hard to just keep up, let alone add any new stuff.

But cheers everyone!

Wasn't it Gee Wally that "pressed that button" and sent all of us posters lost in internet land for a while?

Here's another refugee from bb.com.

Damn we had some great (and not so great) times there

And no, GW would never do something like that :naughty:

Back then BostonBruins.com had a chat forum that I used to post on. During that time I would lurk on old Hfboards. Then when the chat on bb.com when away I joined hfboards.

Has anyone heard from OldJohn51? I haven't seen a post from him in a long time. I hope he is all right. :worried:

Wow, talk about reading my mind! I was going to send Wally a PM after reading this thread to see if OldJohn has been heard from recently. Thanks for asking, and hoping to see OldJohn soon. :handclap:

Jeff From Maine still stops by every once in a while. Would be great if he came here more regularly because he was very knowledgeable.

I remember reading his stuff when I was a lurker for years and was impressed.

Too bad you don't see him around more often.

Cool thread, i lurked from the beginning and then signed on in 2005, then like a few others i've re-lurked ever since.

I don't post often, obviously, but i've accessed the site multiple times per day since it's inception.

Agreed. I think a lot of new folks joined after the cup win and a lot of the long time posters got tired of the noise and found a new place to go.

Thanks, Wally!

I hope he's ok. I have a soft spot for him. It seems like many of us do here. Buffaloed making sure he always knew OJ's password, just in case OJ's email came in, looking for help. I love this place! :biglaugh:

There has been an interesting dynamic with Bruins message boards dating back to the modem years of Prodigy, GEine and Compuserve.

There were the local fans who actually paid money to go to the Garden and deal with the alleged food that Jacobs sold at the Garden and the distant fans that loved the team as well but followed from afar.

I used to get into vicious internet fights with people outside of Boston wondering why TD Garden only had 17,500 seats and I tried to point out that under Boston building codes that was the most they could squeeze out of the footprint of land available behind the old Garden. Boston building codes do not allow the steep incline on seats like you see at Centre Bell in Montreal and standing room is a non starter because of the horrific Coconut Grove fire of 1942 where 500 people died in 15 minutes.

The locals know about the shortcomings of entering the now TD Garden and compared to any other NHL arena it is a farce. If the escalators fail ( which happens far too often ) between North Station (Level 1) and the actual entry point at Level 2 it can be chaos.

My point is that there has always been friction between fans that are local to Boston and those who follow the team from afar.

I owe my life to the Boston Bruins as my parents first met at a Bruins game.

I stopped going to Boston.com by that point. The only familiar name I see on here is Samdog Brewin' from those days. When people like NewJerseyBruinstotheCup appeared on Boston.com, it was already going downhill. How do I remember useless stuff like this....:help:

Pretty sure, I was on here back in 2002 but I would not be able to remember my name or password. With my job and being out to sea for months at a time plus I used to use fake email accounts to not have my real email bombed with spam, I will never get back my old account. All well.

I forget the old board (its looks anyway), but I know this account was migrated from it to the new board. Before HF (in any incarnation) I was part of a very active AOL chat room for hockey. Tragically Hip Check, Wingsfan, are some names that come to mind.

It's funny, someone once asked about the flower on my Avatar area. They wanted to know how they could get one too. It's an ICQ account if anyone remembers that phase of the internet. Remember I.Ms? I had em all and used Trillion at one point to condense them.

As the internet becomes more public with FB and other social media, it's become far less intimate.
